Default Herpa Cost

I just received a latest release arrival update for Herpa 1:500 from the Airplane Shop. Wow I did not realize Herpa 1:500 prices have gone up so much! $54.95 for a 747!

I guess someone needs to pay for Ron's Porsche!

Well besides that Airplane Shop is overpriced, yes Herpa model prices have been rising at an absurd rate for years. The majority of my collection was once held by Herpa, but around 2013-2014 I made the switch to 1/400 when Herpa prices surpassed them and because of they’re lack of American carriers represented. And since then they’ve kept rising. Shame because Herpa has now been releasing all the US carrier models I ever wanted, but they’re prices are far too high.

I just sold my sole and only 1/500 Herpa model on Ebay for 10.00 cost me 3.00 to ship it..One of my dealer friends reports that 1/500 herpa sales are strong and still make up a good portion of his annual sales. Who would have thought?

Surprising about sales as mentioned by Russ!

I would've thought like DeltaFanDC9 that collectors would switch to 400 scale, but I guess those with super human eyesight and space constraints, it is the perfect scale so they can still enjoy the hobby!

First post in 1/500 section I truly thought that this scale was as good as dead these days, so I find that info really surprising to say the least. I do like their Scenix range, but again it's not cheap by any means. Looking at some of their catering trucks but not feeling very enthusiastic about spending £17 on 4 tiny lumps of plastic at the moment. I see so much unwanted 1/500 Herpa stock floating around at model fairs all the time, most of which is from disbanded collections.

I'm still buying Herpa, if I can't get it in 1/400 scale, I will buy it in 1/500 scale. Looking to get the Herpa Qantas A380, but for 9 dollars more I can get the 1/400 version! Lack of space for the widebodies is why I get 1/500 scale.

Starjets and Bigbird 500 I liked the best when I was collecting 1:500.

Good collecting strategy Michael!

Russ, I am surprised that there is not much traffic on 1:500 with sales still strong with Herpa!

I still collect some 1/500 models, latest purchases being the AC L-1011 Club model, and a Scoot 787-8 which I had recently flown on.
Aero500 stopped their 1/500 scale range due to lack of sales. Pity. Those were real gems!!

Andrew, yes I vaguely remember Aero500. From what I recall they were nice as well!

Funny how at the shows one rarely sees 1:500 for sale!

Are you attending AI?

No my friend; I won't be there. My next planned shows are SHANGHAI on July 6th, and NEWARK on SEPT. 7th

Herpa 500s model are very expensive. By the way I don’t know why they do not reissue some old models (which were not fine or accurate ) from their new molds , I am talking about the A340-200s/-300s .
