Default Herpa...easy to break......

I was wondering why dont they make Herpa's more sturdy?

This is the reason I prefer Schabak-Schuco 1:600 to the other scales when it comes to die cast airliners. That and because of the prize obviously, plus for around 10 dollars you are buying a plane that will last 20+ years without getting broken...Herpas get broken just from looking at them!!

Are the other brands (Big Bird, Dragon, etc) easy to break also??

Herpa's quality has gone down the toilet in recent years, sad to say!!

Cant confirm that.....the more precise things like gears get, the easier you can break it. That simple.....try Matchbox maybe or old Herpas....those gears can roll and you cant break them.

You can simply not compare anything like Herpa, Star Jets etc with Schabak as Schabak just lacks the detail.

And that does definetely not mean that I like Herpa most.... I think Star Jets were pretty nice when it came to detail.

Very true. Growing up collecting models from a very very early age, I still have almost all my original Schabaks with paint chips being the worst for most of them, many Geminijets have taken falls but are still mostly intact missing maybe engines or gear with paintchips, but my Dragon Wings and Herpa's that I got before I was a teenager...destroyed.

Hm, honestly dont know what you do to your models. I had not a single serious casualty in about 30 years collecting. Only negative thing is a few of the older Herpa's and the Herpa Lufthansa collection (which was VERY expensive back then) started to yellowish and I dont think you get that ever back white.

I did have some bad experiences with the OGs, as the gears were broken almost oftentimes, but no problems with NGs as they are better quality.
