Default Top 1/400 Phoenix Models

I typically collect 1/200, but after seeing a view photos of the 1/400 Phoenix Airbus A330s and 777W's, I was very impressed, but did notice some inconsistency in quality between what appear to be some of their older and newer releases. I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to buy, so I'm going to use this as my qualifier - which Phoenix models do you find to be the most accurate and who has the greatest selection to buy from?

Thanks

I think the greatest collection to buy from is GJ, but PH has the best A380 and A340/330 and B777 modells.. PH does not have many small modells, so maybe they can work on that..

If I were to buy four models from Phoenix, they would have to be 9V-SWD, 9V-SKB, VH-VOZ and B-KPA. I have all four of these gems, and they are the pride of my collection! Personally I prefer Phoenix for wide bodies, but Gemini wins hands down for narrow bodies. But that's just my opinion, good luck and welcome to the world of 1/400.

I totally agree. and I'l add their newer A340s and 777-200s also. They are all outstanding quality moulds with unsurpassed detailing. Avoid all their older airbusses though.(anything produced before Sept 2010 IMHO).

What about the new PH 744?
It certainly seems to be an improvement on the old one! But is it that much of an improvement? Where would it slot in with regards to the current 744 moulds of Dragon, AV400 and Gemini?

The PH 744 is not bad, but I still think Dragon Wings has the best mould, except for their crappy landing gear. I say this because their (phoenix) fuselage shape and wings are correct for the most part, along with correct engines for each airline, but the wings appear to droop down like the wings have too much fuel and the engine pylons appear a bit thick.

I'm not really a fan of GJ because their wings seem kind of thick and it suffers from the same wing box gap disease that plagues the 1/200 Inflight and 1/200 Aviation 747 models, and their landing gear don't seem as accurate. To me 1/400 GJ seems too toy-like. The AV400 models, I'm not so sure about, but I wouldn't be surprised if they suffered from the same fate as the GJ (I suspect they share the same mould).

IMO the ultimate 1/400 747-400 would be a Dragon Wings body and wing combined with phoenix landing gears. Now wouldn't that be something! Model Manufacturers I hope you are hearing this!

I don't agree. Fuselage shape and wings are not correct. The nose is wrong, the upper deck hump is wrong, the winglets are the wrong size and shape. Phoenix also does not offer a Pratt & Whitney engine. However, the wings do not "droop down like the wings have to much fuel". That's actually one of the few things Phoenix gets right with their 747 mould: A real 747 has very little dihedral:

So while Dragon Wings has the better mould overall, and they're the only manufacturer to get the 744 winglet shape correct, there is too much dihedral angle, which irks me about the (otherwise fantastic) Dragon Wings 744.

It would. But only if they get that damned dihedral angle right.

Totally agree with CXB77L.

PH's 744's nose shape is really weird. Although they might have changed their mould as we can observe from their newer models, the nose is still kind of weird. Also, their cockpit looks really odd, which looks like the 744 has a "angry look". And One thing I really don't like from PH is that there is a really high chance that you will receive a model with engines that are not aligned correctly. (Especially Engine 1 or 2) And they do not have PW engines!

By far DW has the best 747 mould. But some of their older models have problem with bubble paint. Some of the newer model(like the China Airlines 50th anniversary 747-400) "might" have the problem with too low cockpit. But it is still by far, way better than a pointy nose 747 that PH has.

Ohh okay I see what you mean...so it appears the 1/400 Phoenix 747 suffers from the same condition as the 1/200 Hogan and Herpa 747s...a porpoise nose! Looks like running away from 1/200 scale was not the solution to my problems..

Here is a look of DW and PH 747s.
The left one is from PH, and the right one is DW.
You can see the problem with the nose and cockpit with the PH 744~
However, we cannot deny that PH has a much better landing gear. DW's landing gear looks like those match box toys~

..... I personally like the two Sky Europe 737s since they have hot babes on them.
