It feels like 400 scale just isn't a priority anymore. What a shame.
p.s. The thread that was started on 400 scale hangar was called "Gemini Hints and something to laugh at"...The release thread should be titled "Gemini releases are something to laugh at"
As i understand it, there were several factory problems that hit a number of manufacturers hence the limited number of releases for April. Very very happy with the LOT B735. Both aircraft and livery are a favourite.

Jeez-when I first read this thread I thought it was a wishlist! I couldn't believe it actually is the sum total of GJ's May releases. That is really dismal I can understand if they are having production troubles though...I'm very keen on the LOT 737-500...VERY VERY keen!)
BUT...if GJ is having factory trouble...
Whats the QC of this batch going to be like?

gemini have only released 2-3 models due to production problems...
but they havent been interested in 1:400 for about a year, nice money gab for them in 1:200 right now but lets see where there buisness goes when the arse falls out of 1:200 collecting.
if i can recall, would this be #5 or #6 of the hawaiian b763 released by gj??
looks like we are better off going down the custom path for models that we really want.
Actually, this will be the EIGHTH incarnation of the Hawaiian 763, the second with winglets. And the third offering of an RAF C-17. So long as GJ is pandering a select few customers, I'll be looking elsewhere for my model fix.

Seventh in 1/400....The 767 continues to sell out, so why not keep a big client like Hawaiian Airlines happy by producing more? It's been said time and time again that big clients keep R&D funded for future products.
On 400SH, even Rod had no enthusiasm for this bunch.
Sure seems to me that GJ is just killing themselves in the 1:400 market. Declining sales? Hmm....wonder why that could be. Crap economy aside, releasing the EIGHTH Hawaiian 763, as you mentioned, can't possibly be expected to garner huge sales. For chrissakes, nobody wants to buy your 1:400s when all you keep doing are Hawaiian 763s and obscure garbage. Don't get me wrong, because I'm sure the LOT 735 will be well received by eastern European collectors. But when we continue to see one-offs and re-releases being done instead of the much begged for workhorse subjects that would likely garner multiple sales from collectors like me who have been waiting over a decade for them (e.g. Continental and United 737-300/500s, USAir 737-300s, Delta MD-80s, Northwest bowling shoe Airbuses, etc.), it's hard for me to believe that GJ isn't just shooting themselves in the foot in the 1:400 arena.

umm... you might consider that the re-releases come precisely because somebody is buying them? You take the guaranteed cash when it's available.
How long will it be before we see the Hawaiian older release models going for hugh dollars on EBay since everyone is going to want to start collecting Hawaiian models. If you don't have your older release Hawaiian models, better get them before the hoarders buy them all up and then make hugh profits from the person who is trying to just get a full fleet of a specific airline.
Do you guys really get upset when a month goes by where you don't hand over $30-$100 to a retailer? I don't know about you, but I'm quite happy to put the money into my retirement accounts, and wait for next month. I guess I'll just never understand the people who have thousands of planes in their collections.

Most of which must be 1:400 Hawaiian 767-300s

Honestly, I actually very rarely purchase models anymore since nothing of much interest to me ever seems to come out anymore.

Okay, gotcha. The 1:400 Hawaiian 767-300 is the most popular subject of all-time.
Maybe the CEO of hawaiian gets off on throwing models into a volcano. Maybe they give them out to employees who do a good job. Maybe they just sell a ton of them on their in-house webstore. Beats me, and I don't really care, but either which way, these models have a buyer. If you want Gemini to continue as a business, and if you want them to invest in new product, well, don't make them bite the hands that feed them.
Looking on the company webstore, you can buy an inflatable 717.
Well, I'm half-happy with this months releases.
I do like the LOT 735.
Otherwise...
Most...disappointing...month...ever!!!!
Interesting that 1/400 model prices have been creeping ever closer to 1/200 model prices. Makes 1/200 look like a better value. And is this two months in a row with more 1/200 than 1/400? Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I have liked my 1/200s more recently than the 1/400s. Gemini has gone a bit of the retro route with the 1/200s, moreso than they have with the 1/400s recently. It is a welcome change.

I can tell you that in the past few years, Hawaiian has taken a new interest in their branding and marketing. Aside from the online logo store, and physical location at company HQ, Hawaiian has also set up a small kiosk in the inter-island terminal with Hawaiian logo gear readily available. Hawaii is a small community and Hawaiian is very visible at charity events, and fund raisers. I know a lot of logo gear/models are handed out at such events as well. All that factored in 1000+ models can go very quick.
When the A330 was introduced every guest at the ceremony received a 1/400 model. Truth be told Hawaiian goes through these models like water, and it only makes sense to keep the models well stocked to keep a large client happy. The company also doesn't like to be "out of stock" with regards to the models.
I guess the frequent saying still holds true. "If you don't like it, just don't buy it".

Even building off of this I think it works out well for Gemini. Think about how many people will get one of these. They'll look at it, and think, "Where have you been all my life, there must be more of you." Like an intro drug if you will. They will pursue the maker and learn about the variety that is available to them. I think it not only benefits Hawaiian, Gemini but the 1:400 scale as a whole by building repertoire.
For all we know, there were technical issues. Gemini won't walk out on 1:400. It's been their backbone. This concern with the 1:200 scale as competition is ridiculous. Unless everyone who collects 1:200 out there has enormous mansions with room enough to house hundreds of these jumbos it can't last forever.
In my opinion, 1:400 is the heart and soul, break and butter, hard working middle class of this hobby. You lose that and it's all over. Gemini knows that, so do we. It was an off month with a few models, take what you want, leave what you don't and we'll see what May brings.

Just curious, I'd never buy one, though, are all these HA models at least have different regs?
You are correct.

Spot on with me too. I am usually pleased when I can say 'nothing for me this month'. I'd rather the money in my account than someone else's. I have plenty of models and don't get me wrong I still do enjoy buying them, but I don't have a mental breakdown should I not need any of the current months releases.

The biggest obstacle is not the space (that, too), but the cost involved. The 1:400's are expensive enough, but no way I'd routinely pay $60+ for a 1:200 model.

So they don't have that kid on youtube throw them into a volcano? I was somewhat enjoying that image.
But seriously, yes - I can imagine them going through a lot of these in giveaways, promotional events, charity fundraisers, etc.
Think about how many people will get one of these. They'll look at it, and think, "Where have you been all my life, there must be more of you."
Good point, well made. I like how you phrased that. If nothing else, some of these people might want to buy other Hawaiian models. Of course, some other people will throw them away, or give them to some kid.. but then that kid's parents might end up buying some more.
