Second that. Almost as boring as Finnair's new livery.

Where is creativisionism these days with airline liveries ?

Isn't JAL in a lot of financial trouble? I doubt they want to plow tons of money into a new livery. Some things take a back seat when money is tight, the average person doesn't fly because of pretty liveries. Although livery changes can make a perception of change when a company is doing bad. I don't think it has such a large impact as people think especially in a sector where ticket price is more important. I wonder why they are even bothering to change, I liked the bloody sword livery just should have stuck with that for now.

Agreed.

Let's be honest for a second. Who chooses which airline to fly based on a livery? Do stock holders invest in or retain an investment in a company based on symbol or color?

While a lot of us would like to see an awesome livery, the airline is there to make money (something JAL hasn't been doing for a while, obviously, given the need for this reorganization) and making money might not really be tied to a cool livery.

Hey, at least they are bringing the crane back!

I heard it's not and it also doesn't make sense either since they need to invest more money into repainting all of their planes. As their current scheme color is not in the same shade of white that they will be using for the new livery.

I heard it has something to do with "fortune" kind of like a superstition thing. It potentially has to do with the "bloody sword" slicing across their logo. (As also described by camaroz06).

This is what I was told from friend who is a graphic/logo designer. That's what he heard from his friends of the field. Obviously I am not saying that this is 100% true, however the cost saving certainly doesn't make sense.

As an Asian myself, I know a lot of companies put fung shui and fortunes into consideration on how they go about with their business. So I am not surprise if this is indeed the reason why they would take out the current livery. Kind of like trying to change their fortune as most of you know JAL was in some financial trouble.
