No, these Lufthansa A340-600, Dragonair A330-300 "25th Anniversary" and standard livery are NOT official.

They are produced without licences from the relevant airlines and hence the "unannounced" release.

What puzzles me is why is the Lufthansa also unauthorized? I thought that they are a German company which should be OK. Phoenix have also released other European carriers like Air France etc. with no problems and they come with the regular boxes.

Anyone knows why?

I assume it's because of strict licensing issues, similar to Phoenix's CX models. I think Lufthansa models are largely controlled by Herpa/Hogan.

West Main Toys just received their Phoenix August releases and they don't publish unauthorized models on their website as usual. So I assume these Dragonairs and the Lufthansa are among that August batch as well? Or are they September releases?

West Main Toys only displays or sells CX/KA models to patrons. Mrs. Kok is afraid of being caught by the law enforcement officer.

shhhh.... you might want to take that back because this is a public forum. Apparently she doesn't want the fact that she has them leaked onto the internet.

Have you ever been up-close to an A33x mlg? They are clunky to say the least specifically due to how they operate as a unit on the 1:1.

We beg and beg for more details and then biiitch and moan when they try to give us what we want.
Perhaps the miserable complainers should quit the hobby so we don't have to keep reading about the biiitching and moaning and saying how they're gunna leave the hobby all the time.
Very true!!!! the 1/400 / 1/500 scales are the hardest for producing replicas of the real thing, and Phoenix and Gemini do an exceptional job. Though I think it's fine to make reasonable comments and critiques of the specifics of a model, in the end we should be thankful as 1/400 hobbyists for the quality of models that we have, and appreciate the workmanship involved in creating such masterpieces.

This new A333 mould is absolutely fantastic! It looks so much like a 1/200 mould. I can see improvements to the flight deck/nose section, landing gear as well as the vertical tail fin. I am keeping my fingers crossed. If Phoenix releases this mould in the livery of CX's subsidiary, who knows what's next. Exciting times friends!!!!!

Then Phoenix will have to adjust the color of Cathay's livery to an accurate one.

On the initial CX 777-300ER, the color was too green.

By the way, has anyone purchased the JAL 787-8 JA851J special livery?

It seems that this Phoenix 787 and GJ's United 787, have their navigation lights printed NOT on the slats, but at the right location.

Does anyone have any photos on this JAL 787?

And Phoenix thinks they can do this, without having Lufthansa notice? Are they kidding? If LH wanted to make a fuss of it, Phoenix is a sitting duck. Come on, just pay for the darned license, so you can make models and sell them normally.

Do we know that? Essentially, do we know that LH has an *exclusive* deal with Herpa? I thought Gemini said they stopped doing LH because the licensing was too expensive. Which means they could get the license, if they really wanted. Which would make the point purely about $$.

There's a lot we don't know about the finances of these companies, and the details of their deals with the different airlines.

They have already adjusted the CX colours on their CX 772 and 773 releases, although some would argue that they have gone too far the other way - the light mint blue was too dark.

Still, I agree that if Phoenix can get CX's colours right, an A333 release on their new mould would probably sell out quickly. I'm secretly hoping that they will release either B-LAE or B-LAF with the painted inner winglets, because I think they look great. Besides, they've already released B-LAD, so why not release the next one in the sequence?

I'm also hoping that they will re-release a regular livery CX 77W with correct colours, correct cockpit windows and new Asia's World City logo. As good as B-KPA was, those little things make it rather annoying.

Totally agree!

Though why not revamp Phoenix's 777-300ER mold altogether?

An enlarged GE90-115B and the correct raked wingtip shape... currently Herpa/Hogan does these better... while Phoenix's 777 forward fuselage has a better shape.

I think i heard somewhere that a licensce fee only becomes payable after so many models are produced, i dont know what that number is but it may be why certain releases are harder to find and more limited, Maybe they are made within that number range, And how would a airline know exactly how many are out there to the public.

I'm not a lawyer, but I really don't think there's anything in trademark law that says you can infringe on somebody else's trademark, but only if do it 499 times and not 500 times.

There are fair uses of a trademark, but making a few hundred models and selling them for $40 a pop doesn't seem to fit into 'fair use'.

Question Re: Phoenix secret releases

So we have seen a reworked A330-300, A340-300 and A340-600 mould so far.

Can we therefore assume that Phoenix have revamped this entire family including the A330-200 and A340-500?

Dare we hope that they might take the opportunity to add the A340-200 and A330F to their lineup one day to complete the set?

Looks like these models arent so secret after all, just some people have more advanced information then others, For the privelage of getting my models in the next 5 days i paid 50%+ more then what these will probably cost at retail, For people with patience you should get these at your normal retailers.

They will be popular no doubt and i have to have them for my cx fleet, but due to the popularity of the DragonAir 20th Anniversary Dragon model i expect alot of these models to flood ebay,

It will be interesting to watch these on ebay as the first Phoenxi cx models went $$$$$ high but the following releases are still available for average price and the same thing happened with the Singapore 777, Is overkill on some airlines going to stop ebay prices rocketing? probably not.

Even without ebay i see Air Paradigm has the AV200 Garuda DC10 at $95 , Nick at $97 and Adamjets at $149, If micheal and nick can make a profit at there prices whats Adamjets makeing. 50% looks to be the norm in diecast

I agree, both of my Phoenix CX models have liveries that are too green. If Phoenix comes out with a standard CX livery they will certainly have to pay attention to the color.

Agreed, I don't see any difficulties in angling up those rear windows. what I love about this new mould is how realistic the nose cone and flightdeck windows are. work on those rear windows and you've got the perfect 1/400 model.

How exclusive is that license really when Dragon keeps churning out LH models, like the recent slew of A380s?

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think I heard someone here say that all Phoenix Models are unlicensed? If that's so, when why do some models come with all the airline logos and some models come in nondescript boxes?

So why would they ever use nondescript white boxes, especially for an airline in their backyard?

That's besides the point. My question was that if a white box attracts more attention then why do it at all?

Anyways, I'm sure there were more than just the two you mentioned. There were a few CX models that were in white boxes if I recall.

prevent from being caught that's all their purpose of not printing the airline logos and no PHX signs on the boxes.

I can only remember KPA + KPF in "all-white" boxes

Others like A330 LAD/772/773/KPL have some "colours" on it coz I have them all!

Maybe a airline in there own backyard KA and CX can get moe lawsuit action against them , then a airline from outisde china might find it moe difficult.

But the Lufthansa A340-600 will also come in a non-descript box with pictures of Berlin on the box, so i might just of shot my point down.

Who cares what they produce, as long as its what we all want, long may it continue until they get caught.

From this it seems you are saying that models in white boxes will garner more attention than those with logos. Then you said they put them in white boxes to prevent from being caught. That's why I was confused.

Putting it in a white box isn't going to make anything more or less noticeable. These things are largely sold online, where some clear description of the product is necessary. The appearance of the box is irrelevant in that case.

I think maybe Phoenix is just trying to limit the number of trademark infringements. But it doesn't matter. They're making an unlicensed product, regardless of what the box looks like, and any airline that cares will easily come to know about it. It's up to the airline, how/if they want to deal with it.
