Magic (a brand name stolen from Herpa's 1:600 scale model range) produces unlicensed overpriced garbage. They also produce under the names of Junk-X, Big Turd mk 2, Blu bucks, nutz models, and a host of others; something to avoid!!

Magic do a range of models, some good, some not so.

Mr Klein is being negative about his competition again.

Check out the models on the database here and make up your own mind.

If they do a livery / mould combo you want, and you feel you can live with the final result, snap it up. If not pass and hope someone else does them.

Your points are valid though; if someone can live with crap, then it's their choice to buy it.

Agreed with both of your opinions over this matter, sometimes we are after something in particular that someone makes that someone else doesn't make, and accept the quality (or lack of) just to get what the person is after. That person can usually replace the "crap" in Andrews words, at a later stage if need be, with a superior model, should that ever happen. I buy what I like the look of,a classic case is a recent purchase of a Blue angle Singapore 747-400F, now that was an important model for me to have as it visits Adelaide 2-3 times a week, so I bought it knowing full well the engines are wrong colour and is missing opening door detail, and just a bit later, found a Dragon version, which I agree with most is better, and in the meantime, today i painted the engines grey on the Blue Angle version and now it looks quite respectable, and I am quite happy with the both of them, In my opinion anyway, I am sure others will and won't agree, it all comes back to individual choice in the end. Andrew does make one valid point. The product is unlicensed. Do you think it fair for several companies to take the time and legal trouble to do it the right way and to pay the royaltys and another not but to charge the same price for the product? If anything the product should be less in price because the required fees were not paid, seems to me.

Perhaps, but we know that most companies bring out unlicenced models, and the prices vary wildly.

Very few companies are innocent in that regard.

As for my comments earlier, I was not being combative, just stating a fact, Mr Klein was indeed being negative about his competition.

Most of Aeroclassics models have been good, some others have been not as good as his competiors. No one company has a monopoly on having the best moulds.

Constantly attacking a company does not put off people choosing to buy that companys products if it is a mould / livery combination that they wish to own.

Denigrating them for purchasing what some consider 'crap' sells collectors short. They made a value choice and purchased that model, or they did not. Either choice is a valid one from the perspective of the person spending or not spending their money.

As it is their money to spend, neither I, Mr Klein, or anyone else on this or any other forum have any right to judge what is a 'good' purchase. That decision resides with the sole person who matters, the person paying for the model to add to their collection, who made their call based on their own criteria.

Mr Klein, as both a manufacturer and a collector, is entitled to voice his opinion on individual releases.

However as a manufacturer, he extends his opinions to other companies and consistently extends a blanket negative opinion to the products of certain companies, no matter how good their individual releases are.

His negativity is unfortunate, as he sees nothing good in the releases of a number of his competitors, which suggests that his dislike of those companies overides any merits that any of their individual releases may attract.

As I have said before, a forum is the meeting place for the sharing and the communication of thoughts and ideas. A venue for us to display our view points and we can, like any good conversation, debate, question, examine, or wonder why. We express or passion and we express our opinion and we can state our thoughts. We can choose to accept that which is stated or we can choose to reject same. From my military days we had a saying, "Run it up the flag pole and find out who salutes."

Mr Klein knows what he is talking about, he produces what is overall the best product on the market, yes his comments may be negative, but other would do well to listen. It should be considered a privilage to receive a comment good or bad from such a worthy individual.

Buy what you want to buy. Regardless of what others say. Their opinions are theirs. Some just shout louder than onthers. But if I said to you to jump off a cliff would you do it?

Puh-lease...you think those Air France models that magically appear from Green Box models are licensed? I mean, c'mon...we all know that Andrew is the one producing them. I agree, it's like a broken record with him and everyone but Aeroclassics models...

i would have thought new models from different makers would mean more interest from would be buyers. in my experiance i buy a model if i like it and if i don't i don't. quality will always sell, so you shouldn't be scared of another make ,
because if you keep producing good ones people will always buy them!
buying a magic/jet-x/etc wouldnt stop me from also buying an aeroclassics.

i bought a netmodels eva air koala when in hong kong and for about $20 and a livery i wanted i snapped it up, some would regard netmodels as not so good but it was a livery i had to have, im no expert on mould or errors but it looks ok , good solid model i still have in my possesion.

then theres the magic jade cargo a livery i wanted as soon as i seen it on airliners.net, i had given up all hope especially as dragon seemed to be slowing outpit then magic made it, At $35 it was more expensive then most and people calling the mould and company trash. i didnt want to waste my money so i held back, i started to see these on retailers websites less and less so i thought i would take a gamble and buy it now rather then loseing out later, it arrived minus a engine and natural factory made downward faceing engines which i didnt like. i sold this model for $12.00 and its gone from my collection, i would think very carefully about spending my money on them again whatever livery was produced.

im not fussy about a off shade colour or missing cargo doors but just didnt liek the jade enough to keep it,

Andrew says they come from the same family as big bird 2 , the only model i bought from them was a oasis hong kong 747 it wasnt so bad, much better then the jade, they were the first company to release the oasis hong kong just after the airline had come out, i was happy with it but swapped it out for the hogan , sold it on for $20, no real urgency to get rid of it just dont collect two of the same aircraft and airline, not even different manufacturers.

buy what you like the look of and if something better comes along swap it out, this will cost you twice the money doing this but the collection is for us not for a huge house in the country and a lamborghini in the future

then the jade cargo retailing at around

ALCON,

It's still a great hobby IMHO. Basic tenets are:
1) Buy what you like (Don't like it, don't buy it).
2) Voice your opinion (Moderator will take care of over-the-top comments and you have the right to put whom you want on your "Ignore" list)

It really is quite simple.

Good to see some 2007/2008 folks in here.

1.) Vertical Stabilizers are too thick at the end.
2.) Often the classic 747's come with mostly incorrect stabilizers for a 747-400.
3.) print job can be an issue, careless application of colour, glue, etc.
4.) body shape of the 747, especially in the cockpit area is different (i.e. questionable)

But they make models nobody else makes and some people want.
Overall they are TOOOOOOOOOOO Expensive! ($35 for a Magic vs. the mid to high 20's for some Gemini.)

I do have two and did order the TWA twin stripe-which my retailer told me was out of stock. What's up with that? A knock off out of stock?????!!???!? Could I have purchased the Aeroclassics or Gemini, I would have but they are long gone.
