Default Anyone up for.........

Until now I have been a strict 1980s and earlier Americana collector. I am thinking about branching off to also collect aircraft I flown on.

This one I flew from OAK-SEA-AMS in 1989. I remember it vividly as we got to sit in the upper deck with the cockpit door wide open for the entire flight. Being a young 17 year old just learning how to fly myself, this flight and this aircraft has quite a meaning for me. A bonus that it had the Qantas tail too. (I still have the video I shot from inside and rampside of Schipol ops from that trip as well)

I'd be up for some DC-8 action for Pacific East Air too.
They briefly served O'Hare. They had goofy radio commercials and their outbound leg ORD-LAX left at like 23:00 hours, filling a gap in service that wasn't really there. But they were cheap!!!

In model collecting, I can think of few themes any more worthwhile than collecting (or trying to) models of aircraft on which you have actually flown. Your experience of crossing the Atlantic (kinda) with an "open door" to the flight deck is not so common these days, but I do recall at least two trips across the pond where I was lucky enough to experience the same. The first time was a vacation to Norway, with a roundtrip crossing aboard Scandinavian's N4501Q, the "Dan Viking." Both GJ and EuroClassics have afforded me a tangible showpiece to commemorate the trip. The last "open door" flights were compliments of Air France and given the nature of security these days, they may well be the last time that I'll be able to visit the flight deck while aloft. I did afford myself of the opportunity to visit the flight deck while cruising at sixty-six thousand feet above the Atlantic. The ride was smooth and I remember the cockpit being rather warm. We were also moving rather expeditiously too.
Lot's of model makers have made replicas of that favorite of mine as well!
Good luck in your collecting...
I hope someone will make that model for you. I know that I'd buy one too, it's pretty sweet!
Don

Wow, thats a memory! I flew on the P.E.A. 63 a month after that photo was taken! HNL-SFO-LAX. I flew on the 62 they had a week prior from LAX-HNL.....Seems like so long ago now.....
