I'll Have To Take a Close Look At This...Finally...The Classic Royal Orchid Livery...
I Own The Dragon, But It Wouldn't Hurt Add This To The Fleet, Provided The Mould Doesn't Have Some Of The previous Issues.

Love The PH 737-400 Of Which I ALMOST Missed Out
On!

I missed out on getting anything in the old livery.
(Well, I HAD the Dragon A330 but it was broken during a move! Don't remind me!)

So this is great news!

There was Plenty. DW Did 3 Versions Of The A-300, One Of Them The Grey Cheatline, The Cathay Hybrid.
Then There's The 777-300 (The 200 Was Done But Poorly Done)
DW Also Did The MD-11, 744 King's 72nd, & 2 Royal Barge 744s.
Man Where Were You?

Oh, & You Didn't Respond To My PM Yay Or Nay...

Tastes change over time. For some reason Thai didn't interest me back then. All it takes is a scheme change to make one realize how great the previous one was.

I do remember the gray cheatline one. I converted a woman to the fine art of collecting and that was the first one she bought. She must have recognized that plane as she was from Hong Kong, thus the Cathay appeal. And yes, everyone, there are women who collect aircraft models.

I have the Royal Barge 744 but don't consider that to be representative of the original scheme.
As for not responding to the PM, dude, I didn't get one from ya.

Yup! That Livery Is Hard To Beat & I Beat The Royal Orchid Livery Would Be AWSOME On The 346!

I Took This Picture For 2 Reasons. First It Was Part Of A "Big Bird, Little Bird" Thread A Collector Posted, Second It Was The Excitement Of The New Little 737 That Phoenix Released.
I Haven't Got Around To Doing The Rest Of My Fleet Which Of Course Are All Dragons. I'll Have To Get Around To Doing Them Eventually...

And I'd to see it on the A345 too! I really do not mind having these in my collection although they are fantasy colors! Who knows, TG may 'retro' one of their A345s or A346s in future.

I Think The BB Had The Livery Pollution On It. The APEC Thailand. I Rather The Plain Livery.

I would like to know why THAI moved from a GORGEOUS livery to a boring one? Like someone said the Orquid livery fits very nice on a MD-11.

I hope one day I will find a Thai MD-11 old colors.

That's It! I'm Yanking My Thai Fleet Out Of Thier Boxes! Didn't Know There Were 2 Thai MD-11s Released. That's 5,000 Pcs And Still Hard To Find. Goes To Just How Popular This Livery Is.
Have To Try & Get the Other Version Now...

The upper deck on this PX version looks kind of 'swollen' to me.

Wow, Yicokwo, You're Airport Scene Is Amazing. That's My Favorite Angle To View Airliners, All In A Row Like That. Good choices On The Liveries Too, I Have The MD-11, The Emirates 777, The Singapore 744 & Aeroflot 777, But None Of The Others. The Little Xiamen Airlines 737 Looks Cool In With The Big Ones, Too.

Here's A Few I Have With Similar Viewing Angles.

The phrase "Flashy Git" comes to mind and I mean that with the utter most of respect, one thing is very clear, you sure know how to take pictures, I hope you make a sticky on how to take pictures as I for one could learn a lot from your knowledge/experience. It just goes to show, you don't need a fancy diorama to take a good picture of a model.......................

Well I Never Heard The Term "Flashy Git"

But It Is True You Don't Need a Fancy Terminal To Take Good Pics. What You Need Is A Good Eye, An Understanding Of Light & Basically, Just Recreate What You See At The Airport.
But Good Diramas Do Add To The Excitement/Quality Of The Image.

There Is A Progression In The Pictures, Not Particularly Because I'm Better (Been A Professional Since 1988) But Because I Bought Better Decks & The Latest Is The Addition Of Real Backgrounds Added Such As In The US Air Fleet.

And Todays Low Cost Digitals Are Quite Capable, Macro Work Once Only Available On A $1,000 Specialized SLR Can Now Be Found As a "Feature" On Just About Any Digital Starting At 200 Bucks! The World Of Electronics Is Amazing!, But Of Course If You Want To Capture More Depth Of Field & Manually Control Certain Things, Then Be Prepared To Fork Out a Little Extra Dough.
These Pics Are Taken With 5 Different Cameras, Some With Film, Then Written To CD, Others I Borrowed Some Digitals. I Now Use A Minimal Compact DSLR For 300 Bucks. & I Can Take It To The Airport For Pics, Too As It Has A 10X Zoom.

I got the clean Thai B744 in old livery from BB years ago. I believe I have to pass this one for something else.

You have already given me some advice how to take this kind of photos on another forum. One question left: Do you use a macro-lens? Or in other words can those photos be done without special equipment like macro-lens and ring flash-light?

Hi, Sven! First of all, I don't use flash & no, you do not need a special macro lens. most of today's digital cameras have a suprb built in macro feature.
The specialized lens & ringflash are of the days gone by. Almost as obsolete as film.
Basically, I take my models & diorama outdoors.
If you still have a film camera, I wouldn't waste money on aringflash. The ringlflash is for things smaler than die cast models anyway such as insects, flower petals, cions etc.

Gesegnete Weihnachten und ein glückliches neues Jahr, Sven!

Thank you very much Heavy! Some clear and good advice can save a lot of money (which will eventually go to diecast model aircraft and N-gauge trains ). I see that light is of the essence - only at least here in Germany day light is hardly available these days - only for a few hours and with poor quality (grey clouded sky).
Nevertheless, your photos are fantastic and a real motivation to carry on fleet building for me. I envy you for this KLM 747-400 SCD that I discovered on one photo. I flew on this one and I need it for my "Planes-I-have-flown-on-shelf".

Frohe Weihnachten, herzliche Festtagsgrüsse und alles Gute für 2007!
Merry Christmas, Best season's greetings and all the best for 2007!

I Bought The TG MD-11 In My First Year Of Collecting. At That Time My Collecting Criteria Was Only Major Internationals, Mostly 744s A Fleet Of Air Canada 1990s & A Rival Fleet Of Canadi>n.
I Also Only Wanted 1 Of Each. The Fleet Building Was A Cocept I Couldn't Even Grasp, Then & The Lesser Canadiana You See Was Not Even On My Mind.
When My Collecting Criteria Shifted, I went On A 3 Year BINGE & Incessent Searching For Multiple Reg#s & Models Either I Missed Or Never Knew Existed. The TG Slipped By Me & i Never Really Looked Carefully to See If There was A Second One. It's Only Now That Someone Pointed It Out, That I'm Aware Of It, But If You Do as Much Research As I, Then This Is Easily Overlooked.

It's A DW. When The Gemini Came Out, I Had A Look For Comparison & There Is Only A Slight Difference In Quality. Either Model Is Acceptable.

Was doing a search for the subject Thai B744 of this thread as I have a copy and wanted to see if there was more background on this release. The model, as old as it is, is really nice, but the box is what I think makes this release really special. It's basically a tribute to the old Bangkok Don Muang airport and is a collage of scenes from that airport, inside and outside. I think Don Muang airport had a lot of character, compared to the new and modern Suvarnabhumi international airport.

Anyway, the first post was the only post that had anything to do with this model on this thread. BUT, the rest of the thread has some really amazing photos of 1/400 scale models. Whatever happened to L-1011-Heavy? Too bad we don't see photos from him anymore. The photos on this thread were too amazing I just had to revive it!

I am now down to 49 1/400 scale models in my collection from a peak of several hundred. At 47 1/200 scale models, the number of 1/200 scale models I have will soon surpass the number of 1/400s. I plan to keep a handful of 1/400s, including this Phoenix Thai B744.

I have the AC Thai DC-10 in my collection. A firm favourite for sure!

Rick Tesar (L-1011-Heavy) died in Toronto on October 5, 2016. A great contributor to DA.C, and a real loss. Doug

Thanks for the info Doug. I definitely agree that he was a great contributor to this forum, and thanks to this forum, many collectors will continue to be able to enjoy his contributions.
