Does this mean, more plastic-winged models for us (e.g., Airbus)?

Default not to worry.....

I'll bet good money that Boeing will be cleaned up pretty quickly. I'll even bet that the 7e7 will be announced this next week, and that we will see an advanced 747 announced within the next year. Not everybody wants the A380, ANA has come out against it due to size and complexeties of aircraft. Others will follow too in not jumping on the A380 bandwagon.

Even though I’m extremely excited to see the FedEx A380 make its way to MEM. I’m very much rooting for Boeing, and hope that you are right that she can pull out of this nose dive.

It come from poor judgement on selecting an aircraft to have in production to get adequate sales. This is the third time they've come up to plate since the A380 was announced. Hopefully implementing new manufacturing methods for this new 7E7 and sales of the idea to a customer base will get the revenue back that the company. These designs that have sat on the shelf are what is hurting them in the future tense and what is hurting them now is the competition of sales in Narrow and Widebody markets now. Too bad the customer base has fallen. Economic factors are running dry and much due to the marketing that Airbus has done. Would just hate to see one manufacture of Commercial Aircraft in large ranges. May happen but hope not. Offerings of ERJ-190's to the low fare carriers are looking better then other types then having many carriers having A319 and 320 types have left little for Boeing in the 737 series and Douglas' design of that MD-95 (B-717-200).

Unhappy

Ya know, I have all but lost faith in Boeing's future.

I'm a big fan of the company as my two favorite planes are the 777 and 744, but the way they keep changing what they're going to produce has left me quite confused.

Unless they can re-open the Sonic Cruiser project, or take a big gamble and work on something all new, I doubt they can suceed.

Boeing is the victim of gross mismanagement. It's interesting that Airbus can roll off one variant after another of the A340, yet Boeing hasn't been able to stretch the 747 at all.

The fact is, the A380 is poised to be the flagship of fleets all over the world, due to the fact that Boeing blew a huge opportunity to introduce a 747-stretch. That's a death-knell for Boeing, sadly.

Boeing didn't introduce the 747 stretch because none of its customers were interested in it. Find enough customers willing to order it and we will see a 747 stretch although I don't think this will come to pass.

Enron had Kenneth Lay and company and Boeing had Condit. The big difference is that the effects of the Enron collapse will pale in comparison to the damage Condit and his management team have done to Boeing.

So what do people think of Stonecipher? Between Condit and Stonecipher, I simply don't know who will end up being worse for the company.

Actually ANA has released a news release that says not to rule put them buying the A380 in the next 10 years.

No, Boeing CLAIMS that there wasn't enough customer interest. But all of these customers are buying the A380! If Boeing had announced a stretch 747, it would have blown the A380 out of the water in terms of orders. The 747 name is huge among the traveling public--it has been identified as the fleet flagship for over three decades now.
