I was hoping to be able to nominee a 747Classic from NG, but nothing so far. Panda's breathtaking Tu-134 already made it last year, so I go with NG's Gulf Air TriStar:

There has been a lot of good models this year - bottom feeders or not.

It is hard to ignore NG I admit, although they are far from foolproof. Of the 31 reviews I've produced in 2021 there have been 4 29/30s - 2 from NG, 1 from Panda and 1 from JC Wings (although that is the CX 748 and got upscored due to the interactive feature).

So I will pick one of the 29s from NG: the British Airways 787-10

British Airways Boeing 787-10 G-ZBLB by Richard Stretton, on Flickr

and one from Panda: the Piedmont 737-400

Piedmont Boeing 737-400 N406US by Richard Stretton, on Flickr

There were of course lots of models I loved, which didn't necessarily score as highly from other manufacturers. Shout outs to:

Air Mali 727-100 (Aeroclassics)
Faucett DC-8 (Aeroclassics)
Interflug IL-62 (Gemini Jets)
Aer Lingus 737-500 (JC Wings)
Cathay Cargo 747-8 (JC Wings)
Delta A350 (Aviation400)
Samara Tu-154 (Aeroclassics)

A model from AC's American heritage line-up should have a spot. N742PS is the only model I've bought immediately after release and I'm still loving it!

Of every single NG model I have to date, I love every one, but I have to agree with Phantom II on this, re the Gulf Air Tristar and say its an absolute killer of a model. So glad to have got this when I did! The French AF MRTT is a very close second. As for other Brands, my favourite Geminijet (GeminiMacs) is the RAF A400M. Absolute perfection!

Not quite here yet, but I suspect the forthcoming Gemini Mac's B-52 is going to be my nomination. I'd also agree the NG Gulf Air TriStar is excellent too. The NG Aer Lingus A330 will no doubt be worthy of consideration whenever it breaks loose.

I'd say:
JC American Astrojet 727-200
AC LAB 727-200
GJ Kalitta Charters 727-200

TBH 2021 was a blur in terms of models released, and I'd need a list to remember all the good ones!

Early for this since December's releases are unknown at this time, but judging the 2021 releases to date, my top 3 would be the following:

1. Aeroclassics Faucett DC-8's
2. Aeroclassics British Airways Landor B737-200's (these were all spectacular!)
3. NG Worldways Canada L1011 (a bit niche, wasn't sure this would ever be made)

Honorable mention also go to the new TU-204 moulds which were nice to see, and look good even though they are a little new for my collecting criteria (with exception of the Bravia demonstrator scheme from 1992).

News of JC wings AN-26 mould in works is quite exciting as it presumably means more likelihood we will see other important missing Russian types in 2022 and beyond - especially the AN-12, and potentially renewed interest in getting an improved TU-154 mould given the huge number of operator schemes that could be done. More IL-18's would also be great.

The continued TU-134 releases have been excellent (baring the well discussed wing top registration placement issues on the Aeroflot examples), and i hope we continue to get regular release from Panda in 2022

And finally, the Aeroclassics November releases (I'm waiting to pick these up so not seen in the flesh yet) had a couple of really important ones for me too - the Air Zimbabwe 767, Tarom 707 and Balkan TU-154 80's scheme were also great releases from 2021!

Overall a great (albeit increasingly expensive) year, with several new moulds announced showing how much activity there continues to be in the 1:400 space in recent times - hope the positive trend continues!

It looks like a beauty!!

I personally prefer airliners over bombers, but the lines of a B-52 are most impressive too! Nothing beats a B-17 though!!

As for popular models, while I'd be inclined to vote for an SAA DC-7, the Faucett-Peru DC-8s outsold anything else AC made in 2021, so I suppose that counts for something.

Now there's a classic worthy of some 1:400 attention. Put me down for a US 8th airforce in aluminium and red flashings.

As for Aeroclassics of the year, that British Caledonian DC-10 is still a thing of joy.

2021 has seen so many more key classic 'grails made, so hard to decide even for a top 3...but so far:

AC Malev TU-154
GJ Interflug IL-62
NG Gulf Air L-1011

I guess model of the year is fairly subjective as to whether it means the best model in terms of quality or your favourite model of the year. I own both the Malev Tu-154 and BCal DC-10 and they are fine, but there is no way that either are ranking anywhere near the best model of the year from a finish perspective. The Aeroclassics BCal Lion has never been at all accurate, although it is at least similar across all the AC BCal releases.

I'm going to vote for the recently released Gemini 737 MAX8 from SWA. Not because I love SWA (I do) but because it's a sign that a critically important type is back in full service and hopefully behind the tragic troubles that it began its career with.

Yes indeed, and collectors will always have their own subjective criteria for purchasing and nominating their "favourite" models. These could be for reasons of sentiment, or nostalgia, a 'flown on' aircraft or memories of their childhood local airport or something else. A high technical production standard is of course desirable but certainly not the dominating criteria in many people's opinions, particularly when looking at these little creations through 'non critical' eyes.

I got my French on in 2021 hence why I thought it was a 2020;

Thus I will go with the Gemini Jet P8 Posseidon and the Y-20 from Panda.

Here's my 'Fab Five' of 2021 (so far). As said earlier the Gulf Air L-1011 is also a beauty as are certain others too. These five represent some long saught after types and airlines for me, and please feel free to differ on opinion.

My nominee has to be The Gemini200 Air Canada A220 "TCA". This is a great mould from Herpa and its nice to see they nailed the colors. For 1:400 the Panda Models Prairie Diecast Southwest 737-700 "Desert Gold". While the Panda mould is not 100% with its gear issues and high printing this was a very highly needed model for a lot of American retro collectors.
