Default New JC Wings A310 First Look

A few weeks ago I wrote about two new JC Wings moulds in 400 scale, one of which was an A310. JC Wings has just been kind enough to send me through a few more photos of the sample. Check them out here:

Thanks for the review, Richard. But I'll stick with AC - this mould is insufficient for my taste. Engines look a little crude, front gear oversized - and retolling (if at all) will take up to 5 to 10 years - see B747 moulds. Besides the 748i isn't a retooling at all (just new wheels, not even struts for the undercarriage).
PRM1162 and 747438 like this.

A bit disappointed by the new choice in moulds, I doubt we will see the exotic missing A310's in this scale such as Air Niugini or Air Paradise.
A new 727 would've been more exciting.

I also am a bit disappointed, but rather in the moulds themselves. Granted, these are photographs of prototypes - tweaks and improvements will be made before production of a finished run. I won't detail the errors, they are obvious on this A310. Bottom line - if a new mould is meant to replace earlier versions, it had better be an improvement over the older ones. So far, there have been at least three different moulds of the A310, and this prototype, as shown, is no improvement. Doug

What are the errors you see here? Photos from those angles don't really show the quality or not. The engine rims are perhaps cause for concern and as Euro collector said the nosegear tyre might be a little large but I didn't see much else obvious.

I agree though that I haven't any need to replace the AC versions really on the whole.

The support fairing at the base of the vertical stab is exactly right as far as design, except it's enormous - scaled way too big on the JC Wings version. This early fairing on the 1:1 A310 was quite different than later widebody airbuses - it was angular and unique in that regard, and as I said, JCW captured that, but not to scale. I agree with your assessment of the thick engine rims - that has been a recurring problem with many 1/400 scale airliners. New AND improved, please. Doug

Does look like promising mold. The wing root is pretty great. Nose shapes look fine. Ultimately the print of the cockpit windows may make it an A310 from here or something else. Bent horizontal stabilizer probably a mishap. Hopefully they make the -200 series as well.

Looks very promising to me! I've always loved the 310 and have a few from different model companies in my collection. The detail looks really good, even down to getting the wing tip lights behind the winglets more pronounced. From what I can see anyway! However...they definitely need to address the nose gear. It looks too big imo.
