Default The Phoenix, Qantas 747-200 VH-EBA release.

As much as I really don't like the shape of the Phoenix 747-400 in its current guise, and I don't think it's 747 classic mould is perfect either, but much easier on the eye than that much maligned 744. Sure the wings are tiny bit droopy and nose isn't quite right but it's a darn sight better than nothing. 747 classics as we know are somewhat 'thin on the ground' just now. Even if that's a situation that "may" be about to change.

So I tentatively purchased the recent Qantas VH-EBA release, to take a look and I'm really quite enjoying it. It sits really well beside the recent NG 747SP. Nicely detailed gears, crisp printing and colour reproduction. Good job !

Indeed, The pictures are stunning. Thanks for sharing!
I am looking forward to the new Inflight release of Qantas Boeing 747-200 VH-EBM boxing kangaroo even though in a 1:200 scale.

Not bad! Definitely better than their 744 mould!

Great pictures as always!

It’s not a perfect mould, but it’s shortcomings are preferable to paying some of the insane markup that older 747 classic moulds often list at in my book. Classic Qantas livery will always be one of my favorites.

I think it´s a nice model. But isn´t the shape of the nose the same as on the 747-400? I think that's the biggest point that critics get upset about.

always thought the 742 was supposed to be worse than the 744 but I honestly can never really tell much difference with noses

Hijacking this thread, came across this tidbit in my files, authorship and date uncertain, but it's a stark reality check for the value of older aircraft, the B 747-200 in particular:

"Stephen Rehrmann, vice president of the Morten
Beyer & Agnew aircraft valuation firm, said a
Stage 3 747-200 of that vintage would be worth
about $7.5 million if it were halfway to an airframe
D check and engine overhaul, and terminating
fixes to major service bulletins had been
accomplished. But the noisy JT9D-7AW engines
are not Stage 3-compliant, and if the aircraft was
near major overhaul (which could cost $8 million)
and expensive service bulletins had not been
accomplished, the value could be near scrap."

Looks like that seller, “Bordi20”, is using your photos in an ebay listing Al:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Phoenix-0...-127632-2357-0

Scroll through and the ones in the middle are immediately recognisable.

I somehow doubt he’s asked for your permission!

Not to stray from the topic, but why is anyone offended if someone used their picture without permission? How does that affect the photographer in a negative way?? I would be honored if anyone took a photo I posted here on any other site and used it even without my permission. That to me is the ultimate compliment...

Real tomato ketchup Eddie?
Nothing but the best! "I don't know why they call this stuff hamburger helper. It does just fine by itself, huh? I like it better than tuna helper myself, don't you, Clark?"

That's one way of looking at it, but if you baked a tray of cookies and someone reached in through your kitchen window to help themselves, would you think of it as a compliment or theft ? I think what we're saying here is it's polite to ask...
barison82, PRM1162 and Phantom II like this.

That certainly goes in the art world, as history has shown with many superb copies going about, and subsequent influences. I get your point, but I agree with Al, it’s just polite to ask first. Also it’s an ebay listing where the photos are being used to influence the sale, so it does seem a bit cheeky.
