Default AV400 Airbus A380 Resin Sample Mould Review

Thanks to my friends at AV400 I am able to exclusively bring to you a closer look at the new A380 sample mould. It's still at the resin stage but there's plenty here to show how it will look. There are a few areas that require tweaking but the core of the model is looking good to me:

https://www.yesterdaysairlines.com/a...in-sample.html

And yes I know that 'we don't need another A380' etc etc but I don't get the luxury of making the decisions I just get to report on them.

There will be a YT video following this up soon.

What a model. It’s really nicely shaped. This is hinting to be a great die cast.

Incidentally, you’re amassing a very peculiar collection. Very fortunate

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but what hasn’t been made in A380 liveries yet?

Emirates?
If they attempt to release an unlicenced EKA380, I think GJ will do anything in their power to stop it.
The A380's from other brands seem to be good sellers so it will be intresting how this goes for AV400.

Will this be the fourth or fifth mould for the A380 in 1/400?

I don’t think it matters that much how many molds are there in the market. Gemini Jet’s old mold is not quite representative. Phoenix has a good one, light model, but some releases show wing joint gaps that weren’t there on early production runs. And with the engine fans they’re definitely not even trying. Those fans are rough and the gaps between blades are way too large. They should have rather stayed with the old engines.

Now we have this one and the shapes are there. Judging by the features in other releases by this manufacturer the end product with me unmatched.

Dragon Wings, Gemini/JC, Phoenix, Witty/Apollo and Magic. So this is actually the sixth one

Look at the distance between the struts of the mlg - and compare it to those of the 1/400 mould. Same issue on the GJ/JC 1/200 mould.

I hope they will fix the little issues and it will be a gorgeous model especially with the ruby lights on top and bottom.. I would like to trade my SIA and Etihad A380´s for the AV400 version if they turn out right.. But it will take a while before the first model gets to the market..

Another A380 isn't of interest to me, but I'd guess AV400 will do a good job. Collectors of A380's, enjoy. Wake me if AV400 does a classic 70's-90s type.

...and I'm sure all those that have purchased these are happy with them, with all saleable liveries already made.

Meanwhile the world of collectors still wait for a 1/400 Tupolev Tu-114, Antonov An-12 or something exclusive not made by anyone else!

I expect most of the Magic A380s are dust by now and that the Dragon ones have found second homes with new and less discerning collectors, which is probably the same place a lot of the JC/Gemini A380s will be heading soon.

I too would prefer a Tu-114, AN-12 or some such but my eyes are open enough to see that the sales for even already made A380 liveries are literally going to be 10x those for something with props. AV400 is interested in the modern collector market, especially Asian. How many under 40 year old collectors anywhere are going to buy an An-12?

I know this is off topic but I actually don't care about a new mould when the time frame between announcements and releases is approx. 6 months to one year.
This is something some manufacturers really should work on imo. AV 400 also has to work on their 787 lineup.

The Phoenix mould is pretty good, and is much lighter in weight - unique in that it's cast from aluminum. It will be interesting to see how the aluminum casting holds up over the years in terms of rotting and paint bubbling. Might aluminum be a better answer to a real problem with contaminated zinc? Time will tell, Doug

Rethinking this, I would imagine aluminum alloy might be equally subject to the effects of contamination as zinc. Bottom line: It's a major quality control problem that needs more attention paid. Doug

I concur with you, I think it is the best mould that there is out.

Aluminium is much more oxidation resistant than zinc. The only issue for manufacturer is the much higher price.
