Worldways and ALIA - great releases! Will C-GIES have that fairing at the forward belly? And, please don’t forget the additional lower fuselage access door outlines.

Those Tristars are dope. Dunno if I'll get anything this month BUT it's good because my wallet has been desperately begging me for a break. I might give in and buy either a UA 737 or the worldways L10. But I dunno for now. Anyone else happy that with NG you don't have to act instantly if you want something (most of the time)?

If we see that “canoe” on this release it means a PSA release isn’t far away...provided the polishing issue is fixed for this mould too, hopefully.

Likewise - very happy to finally see this one being made. It’ll look great on this mould! Hopefully it has a polished belly too - the artwork NG sent suggests that it will. Taking it as a positive indication that this problem has finally been fixed, I’d love to see the original TAP delivery example made - CS-TEA, which was meant to be released by NG last year but was deferred due to the QC snag. The artwork for it was fully prepared, but CS-TEG was produced instead. A nice example, but not an original 1983 delivery machine. It was a second-hand arrival in 1989, ex-Alia incidentally.

Agreed, Vistara still has a couple of 787s that haven’t got their regs yet, There’s still some hope one will be TSF

Great you are doing this early 1980’s test colour scheme. As a side note, JY-AGA had red ALIA titles, whereas JY-AGB sported orange titles. Maybe -AGB would be interesting as a alternate release too.

I agree, I have really appreciated the time to look at pictures and study the models some before buying. It has actually resulted in me buying more than I thought I would. Conversely, after being bitten by some bad AC releases lately, I am buying less of their stuff because you are basically forced to buy models before having any time at all to study them. It's also a pain in the neck to find any decent pictures of the models before they are commonly sold out.

Wow, we noticed that some of the Tristar had this attachment(PSA, etc), but our reference picture for this release did not have this attachment. You see:

This may be the same plane in different periods. The model we released in May does not have this attachment. They differed in many details.

For the extra underbody fairing, we will add it when the future products actually need.

So it is, ex PSA and, therefore, protective fairing on the forward part of the belly would be nice since it was operated most of its operational career at Worldways with the belly fairing still installed. However, at the end of their career, it had been removed. See Air Britain photography when both aircraft were in storage after Worldways‘ demise.

Replacements are expected to be out before July, mostly in June. They will be made in our new site. Sorry for the long wait.

Jim

Here's my copy of the Iran Air 747SP. Unfortunately there are two oblong gouges in the upper fuselage just ahead of the tail, as if someone pressed tongs against the cast fuselage before it cooled. It was just painted over. I've written the dealer asking for an exchange.

But, as usual, I post a photo of the model in its received condition. There wasn't any grobotnik to clean off. The forward pair of wheels on the forward port landing gear had popped off and were loose in the box. The blue is indeed way too dark, though not quite as bad as in NG's photos.

I included a nose profile. One problem, at least on my copy, was a long triangular flat zone running down the nose below the two center cockpit windows. It is very noticeable 'in the flesh.' So, apparently still some work to do on the nose.

Jim

That kinda sucks. Maybe they can change the rego if it’s brought to their attention. I think they’ve done it before.

It is the same aircraft in different periods. Your reference picture probably shows the aircraft in its very last period of service (or even already in storage after Worldways‘ demise). One should add that the period without the belly fairing was rather short. Engines were changed to the updated (short) afterbody much earlier.

Just to provide a complete list of possible releases with that belly fairing:
- PSA
- PSA demonstrator (1974 world sales tour with additional airline logos)
- LTU (D-AERE, D-AERI, D-AERU in early 1980‘s version)
- Aero Peru
- Worldways Canada

For details feel free to get in touch (just in case any assistance is needed).

Your artwork looks pretty much white!!
What color is this then, if it isn't white?

A very light pastellish blue. Royal Jordan is probably the only one who could give the exact color.

In contrast to the later (ivory) scheme the first one was only slighty off-white with a blueish tint. As I find no match in my Pantone colour chart I can live with a standard white. A too strong blueish shade would be far worse.

Just out of curiosity, with what reference are you trying to match the Pantone to?

I think we agree that getting "correct" colors out of images is no good idea. Particularly Alias blue and ivory fuselage tops are easily ruined if only the the cams/scans white point is messed. And "off whites" moreover tend to overexpose under sunlight.
I prefer using pics with overcast skies for reference to see how far a color is from pure bright white.
Snow is a good friend for white, though I'd agree on a lighter shade of blue. But I know nothing about this particular scheme. Sistership AGB.

I must admit I’ve never seen such design of a tail logo. It’s so vibrant and gorgeous.

I think both you do agree to the kind of a very, very light blue “pastel color tone”. I don’t know whether it’s Pantone or RAL but I must admit - in opposite of Ciderman - I would prefer if NG tried to get an ocean of white colour mixed with with a teardrop of blue color in order to match that very light blue of ALIA’s basic scheme.

I'm happy that it's not up to me to get this tone correct on the model, as you can only fail.

If I had to decide for a model, I'd mix it 30% of that blue in the last pic of AGB and 70% bright white.
But definitely not just white.

Edit: more and more curious on the why it was that color. First thing I stumble over is the King Abdullah Mosque in Amman, though I'm not sure if there's an actual connection. Anyways, that's what I love this hobby for.

I have only seen pictures of that livery, both in books and online. The impression I got was the colour is a polar white, a white with a blueish tint.

The photo Alex posted shows the darkest blue by far. If the model came in that shade I would probably cancel my order. Simply because this colour is not reflected in any of the other photos. But Alex as you pointed out you would also lighten it up.

This picture from the same website shows a much lighter shade, albeit under a sunny sky.

Daniel, I am fully with you that the colour should be off-white. But as the colour might have faded quickly I can better live with a white top (as it appears to be in many pictures) than with this cyan colour of the photo above. Perhaps it's time to get out your LinoJets custom.

Definitely and I'd be perfectly ok with the tone as in this image.

You know, as a scale modeler I'd so love to get my hands on a real paint chip of this one!

This picture taken by diddi on an overcast day in FRA allows for a possibly realistic comparison with JAL's pure white:

If you did not discuss and remind, this color problem is really hard to be found.

We definitely will correct the color problem for the next product. Thanks for remind.

Thanks for listening. Thumbs up!

Do you mean it will be corrected for the announced model, for a second run of this model or for a possibly later release, i.e. sister ship JY-AGB with orange titles?

Just for future reference: whether a color is really white (that incl. slight off-white tones - there's a few thousands) or is a significantly different tone as on this airframe can easily be seen in most pictures.
Take that one from A.net as example:

Check whether there is something "more white" than what you think is "white". Here the LTU TriStar's "white", the "Frankfurt Main" and Telefunken Logo are definitely lighter and brighter. A clear indicator that Alia wasn't pure white. You still don't have the proper color then, but a clear hint on where you need to be careful.

NG just out've sheer curiosity here, but do you guys not use an airline paint colour reference chart for your models? In other words, something that has reference to the exact paint shade that is on the actual aircraft? Again, just curiosity here, not criticism!

Dear NG, lately I have been in need of more American Airlines 737-800s. I would absolutely love N956AN in the new livery as that aircraft has a very sedimental value to me. Also, the astrojet retro livery would be awesome!

Difficult decision, isn’t it?! Doing the correction for a second release (of the second actual aircraft with orange ALIA titles) would leave the first release wrong and with a visible difference to the corrected second release, although both ought to look the same side-by-side. Doing the correction for a second production run of the first release already would result in two differently looking examples of the very same aircraft (first run with white fuselage colours, second run with corrected fuselage colours). Both options have a contra.

What do you prefer, Ciderman? I’d definitely opt for the second option that even the first release should be corrected for a second production run. I’d get both models and don’t want JY-AGA and -AGB to be different side by side - other than the red ALIA titles on -AGA vs. the orange ALIA on -AGB.

What do you think?
