Default Aeroclassics Beauties of 2021

Our discussions of new models here necessarily involve critiquing models where needed. We've critiqued everyone. Because of that I want to do something different: highlight some recent gems from my historic favorite, Aeroclassics. These are all models made in 2021. And they are gems of my collection--made today, not just in 2005 or 2006 like many glorious Aeroclassics 747's.

All my photos....because I bought the models, and they proudly adorn my collection. What are your favorites?

And....drum roll....my favorite so far....the long-wanted MALEV TU-154! I'm a Reagan-era Cold Warrior who looooves Warsaw Pact national carriers.

The AC DC-8 moulds are some of my favorites, too. Lots and lots of AC DC-8's--long and short--adorn my 70's and 80's sections! Here's a sample from part of my 70's North America section. There are 7 AC DC-8's to be found.

I usually don't like classic models that much, but the United and Faucett ones look really amazing!

Nice collection you got

I want to question your choice of the Air Canada, considering it was a defective release? The others (western in particular) were quite nice.

I'd have to say my favorite Aeroclassics model for 2021 so far is the American Trans Air 727-100 N286AT. It's near and dear to me mainly because this airline was headquartered at my hometown airport...I also remember when it was delivered to ATA from United in early 1984.

Oh good topic Jim. I'm up to 20 Aeroclassics for 2021 so far. If I had to choose my top 5 I think it would be:

Air Mali 727-173C
Dan Air 727-46 G-BAFZ
Faucett Peru DC-8 OB-R-1223
United 727-22 N7001U
Samara Airlines Tu-154M RA-85817

Great thread, Jim, and great models. That Malev is my favourite addition so far this year. Absolutely love it.

Defective? You mean C-GYMN iso C-GYNM BFD! I really don't care because I can't even see the reg. without a magnifying glass, and the 3 digit Fleet number IS correct, and that's what Air Canada manages their fleet by. I've seen much worse errors, or "defects" as you so erroneously put it!

I buy just as many Aeroclassics as the next guy, but this is why so many people take what I think is a warranted poor attitude towards AC. I can't pass by this comment and not say something. How can you not be bothered by this? Passionate collectors want accurate pieces to replicate aviation history that maintain their value because of their individuality and uniqueness. This will be the first month this year that I WON'T be buying any Aeroclassics models and that's because every single one of the models I bought last month are blatantly erroneous. Just because you decide to blindly ignore inaccuracies doesn't mean the rest of want to. I try to be fair whenever I can, where ever I can, and keep the hobby well within the context of life but how can you act like that towards people who are accepting of many of these inaccuracies and still buy the product? A mixed up registration is a big deal. The Air Canada model in effect replicates nothing. What a lazy approach to things, I know Aeroclassics can do better. By the way, great photos, Jim.

I don't want this to become a bashing thread but to be honest the registration didn't bother me as much with that one as the messed up red below the no2 engine.

But let's keep this positive. A nice set of new releases today I thought.

It's hard to be positive when big mistakes are being made. I bought that VASP last month, I'm not real happy about it and the Air Canada was a kick in the pants on top of it, not to mention a defective Iberia Caravelle. I've seen zero ownership from Aeroclassics or Andrew Kline. I'll reserve judgment this month until models being to arrive on doorsteps. I spent some time combing through the release photos tonight. Things largely seem to be in order from what I've seen. I do very much like the selection. But selection is one thing. Delivering on the finished product is another.

I DON'T want to highjack the thread. Perhaps someone would be willing to start a new one to discuss this month's releases as per usual?

In a further effort support the thread, I do have a favorite(s) this year from AC. If I had to pick one, it would be this A310 which has actually been featured twice. Once in a Sabena livery and a second time as a Sudan Airways.

I don't consider a model with a misprint in the registration as being defective. I know it's not perfect, but i still like it, it's one i had been waiting for for a very long time.
You know, this hobby is a lot more fun if one doesn't start frantically searching for what could be wrong with a model a soon as it is released. I also prefer a model with a correct registration, but these little mistakes won't stop me from buying and enjoying the model.

As of today, I have zero AeroClassics released in 2021, mostly due to the fact that nothing has fallen within my collection criteria, but if a B 767-200 Boeing house livery, white crown, red/white/blue cheatline were released, I'd be on it in an instant. Doug

I have been collecting for about 15 years (with a 6-7 year 'dormant' periode in there where i only got 2-3 models per year...). My first model was an SN 340 in 1/500. My first 1/400 was a Wardair Canada Dragon Wings 747. I have about 350 1/400s, over half of them Aeroclassics.

That's pretty cool. I've got a few more than that, but I've been at it for about as long. I went through a similar 'dormant period.' But it was some of the things AV400 and NG Models have been doing that's gotten me back into it. I get your meaning about just enjoying the hobby in a lot of ways. But when you look at that first Dragon Wings 747 you picked up, and compare it to some of what is being produced in 1/400 now, doesn't that make you question some of what's made? My point is two fold. One, I bet that some of what is being made today isn't nearly as good as that Dragon 747! Some of the stuff they were putting out back then was much more well made! No crooked pieces, poor painting, or loose parts. On the flip side, some things being put out today aren't nearly as good as they once were and thus, are miles behind what is available in the same price range. You can put up 40-50 bucks for a model nowadays from just about anyone. GJ, Aeroclassics, NG, Phoenix, AV400, and even the same price for second market Dragons, Jet-X, Tucano, and others. But still, that could mean some pretty major differences in the models without getting the magnifying glass out. It just seems that there is just more 'bang for the buck' from some and not others. I can't ignore that. All the best!

Crazy thing is, the historic Dragon Wings/Jet-X releases have this well regarded reputation, and count me among their fans. But, I have two older releases: Jet-X, United Airlines N777UA ‘Boeing 777’, 777-222, with significant zinc rot, and another; DW55168 Continental Airlines DC-10-30 N37077 that has heavy paint bubbling issues on the upper rear fuselage. These defects did not appear until a good 10 years after release. No manufacturer escapes the occasional glitch... Doug

AeroClassics is my preferred supplier of aircraft models, no question. Out of my current 407 models AeroClassics stands for 140 of them. Nowadays I only buy Nordic or "Flown on" models. No other brand do so many good classics.

Here are my two latest arrivals from last Friday. These sit well a side with my other DC-8-63 and other "Euro White" SAS models.

Thanks Andrew for making all these goodies!

As the person who requested it, I personally don't care since I wouldn't know the difference anyways. The pictures I posted of the real thing are very difficult to see the reg on the back. I'm just glad to have an 80's AC 727 in my collection.

I also really like the First Air 727. Got to be my favourite release this year so far. anxiously hoping we get some of their 737's too, from NWT Air classic livery up to their final different tails livery

AeroClassics’ A310 is definitely one excellent mould!

As for the ‘other’ topic, in my humble opinion it doesn’t even matter whether you call a model with a non-existing registration ‘defective’ or not. It’s simply wrong and it is inpurchasable then. I would expect a dedicated manufacturer to excuse and to do it right. Simple as that.

My Aeroclassics faves so far in 2021 are the TAP DC-4, the first South African DC-7 in the earlier livery and the Aviacsa B727-200 XA-SJE.
The first two because they were complete surprises and the Aviacsa because it was difficult to obtain when you live in Europe.
Of course I have all three.
