Default Mould Sample Review: Tupolev Tu-204/Tu-214/Tu-234

It's early in NZ but just before I have to go into work I'll post for you my full review of the new Tu-204 moulds including discussion of the type's history and variants. These moulds can cover all major variants - Tu-204, Tu-214 and Tu-204-300/Tu-234. Check them out here:

These are really exquisite moulds from the first look. I really appreciate the effort of NG in creating moulds of the iron curtain era. I really hope the come up with an Il-86 and Il-62 one day. Both still offering liveries that probably never will be done. Still I believe NG would do an excellent job on them seeing the Tu-204/234 moulds.

Excellent review. Do you perhaps have any idea when the first of these will be released onto the market? The samples look more or less finalised, so I'd be guessing mid year.
I hope they do well for NG.

These aren’t really my speed, but I appreciate NG introducing something a little outside the box. I’m sure Russia/Soviet collectors are over the moon.

I've had one persistent critic of the new Tu-204 moulds moaning at me about the nosegear and engine pylons so I thought I'd put it to the floor. Bear in mind this is 400 scale so what you can do with nosegear detail is limited if you want the gear not to break. I don't see anything wrong with the engine pylons. Thoughts...

I do think the nosegear door shape is incorrect

Are you sure this critic isn't just trolling you? I mean, I can see some minor inconsistencies in the gear and nose doors, but this is a 1:400 die-cast metal model, not a museum grade 1:72 scale kit complete with resin & photo etched parts... It seems such people really don't have much of a grip on reality... Or they are deliberately trying to provoke.

Hell, if a Ty-114 came out with this sort of overall quality I'd be over the moon! Поехали!

Yeah you might be right. He says he used to work on the Cubana Tu-204s and so expects much better accuracy. I thought he was being unreasonable too. I get the feeling he is either unfamiliar with what is possible in 400 scale or is just a jerk. Nonetheless, it's good to see what others think and not always think my opinion is correct.

They do have a good replica of the nose gear on the TU-204-100... why not the same on the -300?

The angle in which the strut that is going forward and upward from the main strut seems to be much smaller on the TU-204-300 sample’s nose gear when compared to that one on the TU-204-100 sample.

Ah I see what you mean. I think it is just because the Tu-204-100 gear leg isn't fitted properly. You can see in these shots compared to the NG 757 that the Tu-204-100 has a slightly nose high stance. I hope that with the finished models that this is resolved but I get the feeling it is a QC not mould issue.

My last video looking at the new NG Models Tu-204 moulds gives a quick size comparison between them and contemporary Western and Soviet types. Check it out here:
