Default Aeroclassics Tu-154 Samara Airlines

I can’t resist Russian metal, so I picked up this one from the February Aeroclassics lineup. I hadn’t heard of this Russian airline, but the retro feel of this one hooked me. Samara ceased operations in 2008.

I've got this one coming too. Samara was a fairly major Russian airline formed from the Kubyshev Joint Aviation Squadron of Aeroflot. In 2005 it was one of the airlines that effectively merged into the new AiRUnion grouping led by Kras Air and Domodedovo. The airlines concerned formed the 3rd largest airline group in Russia and were gradually repainting their entire fleets into AiRUnion colours (often with small operated by etc titles).

The impact of massive fuel price increases did for AiRUnion and caused a major downturn in Russian aviation in late 2008.

Same for me - I don't know what it is about Russian metal that attracts me so much - I suppose it's because I'd never seen any of it in real life until I got to go fly some in 2018, so it's the appeal of the exotic. But I will pretty much buy any new releases - I got this Samara as well. The only reason I didn't buy the Ural Tu-154 is that I already have the IL-86 in the same livery.

Always fun to have a exotic model that's never been represented in 1/400 before.

More Tu-154s are needed. Let's hope we see some in March Aeroclassics.

I photographed this one at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport in August 1997, RA-85817,which just happens to be the subject of the model..

Interesting thing is they were still producing new units until recently. The factory has a handful of airframes left waiting for customers before they do all the finish work.

Russian Airforce's newest TU154M was delivered in 2013 with updated avionics and engines, and a VIP Tutuapp 9Apps Showbox interior.
