Default Has anyone received their Gemini Jets December 1:4

I ordered the Qantas 747-400 and the LH Cargo MD-11 from the December releases from Diecast Airplane Store and they keep pushing back the shipping dates, first the 4th then the 7th and still no shipment. Anyone else having this problem with other retailers?

In general almost all the retailers have had delays getting this month's stuff, it seems like. Busiest time of the year for shipping, and they were already reporting delays with getting stuff to the US for last month's releases.

The Chinese and Hong Kong postal services have gone into lock down again to combat rising covid-19 spread. Anything shipping out of there is experiencing huge delays. I have stuff from early December showing as 'processing' and still within the country. Add to that the extra pressures on delivery systems globally thanks to cargo demand and Christmas time, then we're all going to experience delays. Last April I waited 2 months for a package to appear.

There's a rumor that GJ withheld the An-124, and Spirit A320neo for their own shopatron store

The container arrived at the port of Long Beach first week of December..However instead of immediate unloading it sat for nearly the entire month due to port worker shortage blamed on Covid. End result is the US distributor did not get it until December 28th.

My Southwest Illinois One shipped yesterday per Waffle via Snail Mail (aka USPS). No delivery date is shown on the tracking website but at this point I could care less if it arrives late.

Then I’m curious as to how Gemini Jets, for their Shopatron, got it in so early, whereas other retailers had to wait longer and only got the models that may or may not sell well...

The Shopatron prices are pretty garbage, but then it's run by GJ themselves

I think a lot of collectors that are on this forum can relate when I say prices were much better back in, letís say, 2013 and before... nowadays we get charged lots more, which would be fine, if the quality of the models went up with it. Now that may not be possible for some models, which is fair, but if the quality is to go down then thatís when weíll have problems. I know itís not all of their models, too; they make some good models still today, and I respect that.

Personally I want an explanation to how many retailers didn't even get the GJ December releases leading to cancelled orders which affected one of my orders

Thatís what I want too. Models like Illinois One, the Spirit neo, and the Antonov I believe, didnít get sent out to retailers or they received little stock. Makes you wonder if they are withholding them so you have to buy them through Geminiís Shopatron website, and pay the MSRP, plus high shipping and taxes, so that Gemini Jets receives maximum profit. Maximizing profit while limiting options for the customer.

And tough luck if you want these models but your favorite retailers donít have them, and youíre not in the US, because their Shopatron only covers US shipping.

I can speak for myself, I received a vastly reduced order of the popular releases, so I have had to move heaven and earth to get enough supply to fulfill everyone's order, but they will be coming, just a few weeks late.

UK retailers are almost always slow in getting stuff in because good shipping options cost significantly more, for various reasons including a hefty tax charged on the cost of shipping itself. So they usually buy the slower shipping options.

Both my Illinois and Spirit shipped out from a non Shopatron retailer.

What do you define as broken?? Is it snapped at the pylon or did it just separate from the mount and fall off?? If so it can easily be reattached Can you take a picture of the wing pylon.. it would take a strong jolt to snap it at the mount.

It looks like it just popped off the mount where it's glued in. Easy fix unless the paint is also messed up

What I define as broken: snapped off bits, missing bits, detached bits, etc. None of those should be tolerable by anyone, period, no matter how easy the fix is.

It wasn't all that easy to reattach, too. The contact point is super small that I caused the paint to get rubbed off due to the super glue getting on it. Broke the nose gear off, which was already bent, trying to fix it as well. Sorry I don't have pictures of such as I didn't take photos after unboxing the model.

so what your saying is, it detached from the pylon and never broke off..if so very easy fix..

Fair statement but broken models are not acceptable by any means no matter what the damage is nor how easy the fix is, regardless of the source of damage, shipping or manufacturer. Weíre paying a premium for these models so of course weíre gonna complain if itís broken, itís not rocket science.

I bought a GJ AA Oneworld 738 from the CR Smith museum on a trip down there a few months back. Didn’t see that the wings both popped off and took about 2mm of paint from above the wing all off with them, plus a cracked nose gear that’s worse than any of my zinc rotting SMA landing gear.

Frustrating since I paid full retail, but with no realistic way to do anything about it, I just picked up a Testors paint set and did some freehand work tonight. Looks fine from a distance but up close it’s obvious. Might refine it under magnification with a clamp or vise later on. It just had to chip off right where the starboard emergency exits are...

I had to look high and low and commit a few illegal acts, am now wanted in 7 countries, but I managed to get enough of the releases to fulfill all orders. SW and AN124 are extremely popular and demand far higher than supply it seems.

Ship was delayed unloading due to COVID slow downs in California ports. Apparently not as many people allowed to work at the same time. Combine that we UPS being a little slow to deliver we have shipped many December release orders last week. Shipping a lot today. Have another small shipment coming on Wednesday that should finish all preorders. If your order has not shipped yet, send me a PM and I will look up your order for you. Thank you for your order!

Darius

All of the large retailers got cut and probably the smaller ones too. All I was told was that this was a small shipment. Why they don't provide us with enough models to meet demand is beyond me! We could have easily sold 2-3x as many as we received. But they do seem to keep plenty for their own website.

Darius

I think there are two interesting developments here. First of all, I have the Illinois 1 on preorder and have not received it yet, so I can stand as another example where models haven't been delivered. If I'm piecing this together correctly, it's very interesting that Gemini is making rumored actions to increase shopping through its own site. (Similar to what Aeroclassics has done?).

The second development that I'd like to contribute to is the continuing quality control issues Gemini is having. I too recently received a Lufthansa A340 from them that came in pieces. I can forgive the occasional loose piece, but whole wing components are falling out and rubbing in transit causing significant paint chipping, downplaying that on a forum isn't a good look. After this most recent purchase and the as of currently, missing Southwest model, I'll be once again avoiding Gemini until the rumors or good quality and honest delivery return to their reputation. We just would like quality models!

Unfortunately, damage during shipping happens! You are kidding yourself if you think Gemini is the only ones this happens to. Honestly we have had more problems with NG than Gemini recently. We have shipped a few thousand orders these past couple of months and have received less than 50 reports of damaged models.

That may be so, your perspective is that of a distributer, so it will be different than mine. I have bought far more NG models this year, I've bought maybe 5-8 Gemini jets. 2 of those 5 have had issues. I've bought close to 30 NG, each one was pristine. From my perspective and from the examples of others on this thread Gemini is showing QC issues. I'm sure others on here would agree.

They all are having QC issues. I see things from a different perspective than most but I can definitely understand your frustration. It's even more frustrating for us because we have to try and rectify the situation while trying to keep our business profitable. No easy answers.

Not counting the ones I bought knowing they were broken, I've had to fix probably 8+ Geminis, 2-3 NGs, and 1 Aeroclassics this past year, and have one AV400 that needs to be fixed and another AV400 that's missing a wheel. No broken JCs or Phoenixes, although I wish the PHX Landor 772's engine would fall off so I could glue it on properly. Plastic wings or not, none of the many Dragons I've acquired have anything coming loose

I'm sure that's a difficult place to be. I truly sympathize for both collectors and retailers which is why I take my frustration to the public forum. When I take my issues public, usually other people will share their experiences who may not have otherwise. If more people are seeing the same thing, then to me, that identifies a pattern, separate from the many one-off issues that pop up here all the time.

To me, there is an easy answer. Make the message clear to the manufacturers who largely have some sort of presence on these forums. We want quality models. For the asking price, the quality we are asking for, the manufactures were at one time delivering several years ago. If they care enough, they will make sure changes happen. If not, then people will have to continue to choose to buy models that may or may not be of honest quality. Largely, I think Gemini could avoid close to 90% of their recent complaints by investing in more/better glue! Seems like it would be a fairly affordable way to improve over all quality.

As always, in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal, but since we are talking about it, it's just my two cents.

My thoughts exactly! In the four years since Iíve gone full-time collecting, Iíve gotten seven broken models, all Gemini (most recent was due to shipping, so that wonít count); four of them were Airbus A320 or A320neo family aircraft. One was an E170, and another a MAX 8. That A320 family seems to be Geminiís Achilles Heel with a boatload of other issues.

Now I know thereís a few collectors who would say ďeh, slap some glue on it, not a big dealĒ, but I argue one main thing: the price. If weíre paying between $40-$60 for these models nowadays, weíre gonna expect a higher standard of quality, and on the models that donít meet those standards, of course we will complain; itís not rocket science. We all know itís an easy fix obviously, but thatís not the point. We should not be gluing the models ourselves. In addition, itís risky. Super glue is a very dangerous substance and mishandling it can cause major issues.

Not our job to have to re-assemble models on arrival - that's exactly why we're NOT into kit building, but prefer finished diecast models. Sometimes a super glue fix returns a model to like new condition, unless there's paint chipping around the attachment point, then it becomes a major fix with a permanent scar. And super glue is indeed tricky stuff, and can easily do more damage to a model than good. Manufactures may well believe that less is more when it comes to glue, and I get that, but a loose part must be described as damage. Simple as that, Doug

I’m trying to decipher from the pictures - is it because the engine itself is mounted wrong, or is the wing droop just too much? I have a Herpa 1:500 version of this model and it definitely doesn’t look like that!

Too much anhedral and the engine pylons are far too deep.
You better not inquire about the overwing seam!

Herpa does the Ruslan in 1/400 as well which is a much better replica, if hard to find nowadays. The only thing this Gemini has going for it is the printing which is more detailed than the old Herpa offerings.

Those poor two engines will probably scrape the runway more than I bang my poor pinky toe on chairs and furniture in my house.
