Once again, all I got was a lump of coal (diecast wise). Any good diecast goodies received for Christmas? Let see your hauls.

It's a sad reality that some models you want will never ever be made. I realized that a few years ago and decided to do a few. Some turn out better than others, but it's just nice having SOMETHING like what I really want.

Plus it allows you to take advantage of sales. Half your searching is for models you really want, while the other half is for good donors you can make into something better.

Best advice would be to stear clear of Phoenix when it comes to customs. They usually put a clear coat over top of their models which makes it nearly impossible to convert them. Most others don't, haven't converted an NG though so I am not sure how well they work. Aeroclassics are pretty good, but that's mostly because they have the best moulds for what I usually need as donors, that being the 737-200

Also got 2 x 1/48 CORGI CODE3/CUSTOM PHANTOMS. just over a foot long and weighing around a kilo. standard corgi FG1s are around £130. corgi released their first 1/48 diecast last year in royal navy colours. these 2 were just over double that. but were also converted to FG2s. as a huge phantom fan, I had to get these.

Well after +18 years collecting 1:400, I've still never actually received one as a gift, for Christmas or otherwise. But my buying habits persist and I have several pre-christmas orders caught in transit. I did receive the Gemini Mac's P-8 Poseidon (as pictured above) a few days ago, and have another half dozen or so items still to show up, including the NG 'Boris' jet and Aeroclassics Icelandair 727. Hopefully the approaching new year will bring a few home. Happy unwrapping if you are enjoying some of these as yuletide gifts.

The one thing I did get however was a covid-19 infection. So as I write this I'm just coming out of a 10 day quarantine period following some bizarre symptoms, that wiped out both Christmas and my 50th birthday. Not too bad though, and I'm feeling fine..
