Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

Just received a Gemini Emirates 777-200 (A6-EWI) which has no aerials. It's not that they're broken, the model just wasn't done with them there to start with. Looking at pictures of the same model online they all seem to have some antennas and the wifi dome.

It doesn't really bother me, but I'm still curious as to know why it's like this, any ideas? Thx!

I'd be happy about it!

I still don't understand the fixation of some, for inaccurate, out of scale aerials in 1:400 scale. It ruins the model!!

If they do appear out of scale then yes they spoil the look of the model. But where they do appear in scale, they enhance the model. In current times we can see examples of good and bad antenna across various manufacturers.

Happy about not getting what you paid for? Now that's something I don't understand.

That is something I’d be worried about... it’s not like aeroclassics who just don’t offer them and you know that (not something I love anyways), it’s the fact that they just aren’t assembled which is worrying. Maybe you should talk with your retailer?

Yeah, it's the right model, just missing the aerials which as you can see in the photos haven't fallen off or anything, they were never there.

This copy has antenna in place. So now I am confused.

Maybe Gemini manufacturers the models that go straight to Emirates without aerials and the ones that go to retailers do? Or you can ask your retailer?

I believe you bought a special edition variation that isn't listed on DiMA, expo special for Emirates. The standard one is the one that has aerials, and I bet it comes in a standard GJ box.

The models sold direct to Emirates do not have VHF antennas or WIFI dome at their request.

Klink must be doing their orders

If aerials are done well, they add to the overall realism of a model, but if they fall out, then you have a model with compromised quality, and that is worse than no aerials at all. I have a number of models with missing antennae and that's not good. Doug

Re: Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

I can understand the argument about aerials if they're out've scale. But then that goes for anything made on the model that's out've scale! It's wrong period! But to be totally against aerials is beyond me tbh. If I put two models alongside each other, one with aerials and one without, guess which one is going to look like a sore thumb?!! I like aerials( if they're accurate like NG for example) and think we should keep them!

It does not have the holes... so I guess the model should be like that.

They didn’t fall off, this model intentionally doesn’t have them.

Smart airline! They don't want gimmicks which ruin the model.

It probably depends on the perspective.

What is an enhanced detail for many might be increasing costs for one.
No aerials = cheaper production with less to bother. And as long as there are enough buying the product there's nothing wrong with it.
I know a few companies with a simmilar thinking, but most of them met the Dodo sooner or later.

Re: Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

For me, the things I look at and prioritise before I buy a model are:
1. Price
2. Quality control - (brand) Will the model be in one piece? bent landing gear ect Could it succumb to zinc rot (has the brand had this problem before and they haven't addressed it?)
3. Mould - good or bad representation of the real aircraft?
4. livery/printing - colours correct? Printing quality good?
5. Added gimmicks - extra detailed landing gears - I still buy plenty of old dragon wings and gemini jets models which lack this and are still very good! And finally, aerials they look good, but how much extra will you pay for a model with them?
If there were 2 models (same livery ect) on the same mould, and the model without aerials was $20 cheaper, i would by that one.

Re: Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

As with most 'sensitive issue' threads like this that can start heated debates,I'll just open with the sentiment that every one is entitled to what they like/dislike about models and collecting. Some like gimmicky things, some don't!! I'm not out to highlight gimmicks on a model. What I do look for though and to me is very important ( one word guys....detail!!). What's the point of getting to this stage in the hobby where, models are for one, more expensive than they've ever been and yet the detail is still left out? What do I mean by detail? Seeing how realistic the model is to the real aircraft! Seeing a 747 for instance and dropping the size by 400 times. That's the catch! To me I have an eye for detail. The more 'extras' ( panel lines, portholes, aerials etc etc) the more it goes to making the model more life like. This is why model makers like NG will get most of my business now! It's as simple as that!!

Well take this for example... the model on the left has lots of aerials. They’re probably minimally oversized other than the umbrella looking things which are much bigger than the real thing to my eye. The one on the right has no aerials. Which is better?

I think the one on the right is superior. Obviously, it will perform better aerodynamically. It has a nice streamlined and minimalist look. I commend the company that made this variant for integrating all of those antennas into the skin of the aircraft to produce such a sleek look!LOL

Re: Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

The P-8 is supposed to have all the aerials. It's a military aircraft made for a certain role. The aerials, domes etc are part of he a/c. If you go to an air show and see one on static display,if you know full well it has certain aerials, domes etc,but this particular one you're looking at doesn't have any, you'll be like WTF??? That's not a Poseidon!! Same concept!!

Re: Gemini Emirates 777 without aerials?

I can see how some people would be upset over such new-age things such as antennas on models or horseless carriages but, when done correctly, they make the model far more appealing. Look at JC's MD-11 mould or NG's L-1011, they look superb with those antennas. I'll back it up with putting my money in those models over some antiquated mould that refuses to be updated.
