Default A Call for Spanish Birds

I know I'm not the only Iberia fan who is really disappointed with the new livery that's being slapped on their aircraft now. I do miss the previous livery, and being the type that will sell a batch of models that I'm bored with at the moment when boxes of models start overflowing out of my storage space, I'm really regretting selling some of those Iberia models with the previous livery. Those models are now next to impossible to find, or are listed on the Bay for "Are you serious?" prices. Luckily, today I won the GJ Iberia Regional CRJ-900 on the Bay for a very reasonable price.

So now that we have new players with new and improved moulds, here's my call for some Spanish birds! Would love to see what other members' Spanish bird wishes are!

I'd like NG to make this A321.

No mention of the Aeroclassics recent release of Iberia DC-8 in these colors? Truly beautiful bird.

I just received it a couple of days ago. Agreed, it's represented on the best stretched DC-8 mould out there now.

This is a call for manufacturers to release Spanish airliner models that haven't been done or that need to be re-released on improved moulds. I'd say it's a bit early to call for the Iberia DC-8-63 to be re-released, don't you think?

Yeah, the MD-87 is a much needed new mould, Dragon Wing's MD-87 mould is probably long gone.

For me this is one of the most attractive liveries ever and certainly from a Spanish airline. So Aeroclassics (737-200), Panda (737-300) and NG (757) hop to it!!!

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!

As Spaniard it’s so damn hard to complete my Iberia collection and even more with other Spanish airlines old or new, as the prices are ridiculously high... thanks for this post, we need more Spanish birds!!

These are on my extreme wanted list:

I'm not a fan of Caravelles, but they existed with the Hispania livery too. Not sure if this is one AeroClassics can make as I'm not the expert on the subtle differences between the various Caravelles.

I never thought a Spanish charter airline and America West would ever have an encounter like in this photo.

It looks like it is P&W JT8 powered, not the RR Avon that features on the AC mould so probably not.
That said I have wondered if AC sourced P&W JT8s from its DC9 or 727 moulds and installed them (inverted; note where the curvature on the nacelle is) on their Caravelle mould that would produce a viable workaround for these variants. They've got all the bits after all.

The SPANTAX DC-8 in that livery really gives it a solid "workhorse" look, if that makes any sense.

You missed out on the recent Iberia DC-8 release? Prices for what's left on eBay are already ridiculous! That was quick!

These would be very great on the Aeroclassics molds:

You aren't. That new livery is ridiculously boring. The world does not need more Euro-white! The prior livery is a classic of aviation history, and they should have stuck with it.

A general question about Spanish airliners from this era: Was it a requirement for all airliners to sport the Spanish flag-colored band at the top of the vertical stabs?

Couldn't agree more. The previous Iberia livery will influence my decision to buy one of these, if AeroClassics releases one.

Don't forget the classic props! As the excellent Douglas DC-4 is back in use, surely an Iberia one must be considered? This is EC-APQ at Heathrow in May 1958 and EC-ECD also at Heathrow on 3rd August 1957.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. 2008? No wonder why I never see them come up on ebay, I bet they were popular then and really rare now.

Clearly I did, as the second one is EC-ACD, not 'ECD! Note the huge reg is spread across both wings also, with red/yellow/red bands round the wingtips.

More Spanish prop classics for the Aeroclassics Fokker F27 mould - Iberia early & late schemes

I would get an F27 in the late scheme. Now that you pointed out some more description/context of those DC-4s, I can imagine those DC-4s would be some really nice looking 1/400 models.
