Default Aeroclassics FedEx 737-200

Another beauty from the Aeroclassics company. Meet N204FE in 80s FedEx livery scheme. Released this month. I知 a sucker for Guppies.

Yes, very nice model. It's just a shame that the main deck cargo door was forgotten AGAIN. The SMA release
lacked the main deck cargo door also. I was really hoping that this would be corrected. However, it's a great model
and I have one. I used to work these at IND ramp in 1979 and 1980. N204FE happens to be the very first one I worked.

Because... the real aircraft doesn't have a very visible one?

The front edge of the door is between the main deck entry door and the first cabin window. No doubt they had these cargo doors, we would've never gotten 5 full size SAA containers on board otherwise....

So you want a clearly visible cargo door on the model of the aircraft that has an almost invisible cargo door in real life?

it could at least be outlined in black with the proper window spacing, and the door does show pretty easily on the bottom edge and through the white on the titles.Aeroclassics FedEx 737-200-mco_11201979_n205fe.jpg

Probably more trouble than what it's worth to do the window spacing, etc. But still, it's a great model and I'm glad I have one.

To be fair, most aircraft look like this in real life. Main deck cargo doors are almost impossible to see unless they're clearly outlined, which most aren't.

This is true, they do show up much better on white paint. It's really not a big deal, it's a great model.

I'd think if the below deck cargo doors are outlined, the main deck cargo door would be outlined. Not a big deal for some I guess, but I'd feel better about it being there. I think it could be done where it is discrete, yet visible. Heck, there are wiper arms printed on some 400 scale models!

This is exactly what I was getting at, would be nice if the door was there.

I think that has to do with the way the doors work on the belly compared to main deck. On a real plane they aren't outlined but you can easily see them :$

I think where the cargo doors aren't pronounced on the real thing, trying to make them visible on a 1:400 scale model can make the model appear less realistic.

For example, the recent Aeroclassics Iran Air B747-230B. Lovely model, but the effort to include the main deck cargo door ended up with it looking far too pronounced, in my opinion.

By the way, Aeroclassics did an excellent job on the paint.. the purple and orange are spot on...exactly the way I remember it. Now if we can just get a 727-100, 727-200, and a DC-10 in this scheme....

That would be awesome if he does. And here's a variation that has not been done yet... Aeroclassics FedEx 737-200-fll_000080_n133fe_01.jpg

Note...similar to the 737's paint, with windows intact and the titles below the windows. This is N133FE, a 727-25C. ex Eastern N8168G

I recently bought one of these models and there's a weird line below the orange line that follows the purple from front to back. It almost looks like they used a decal to get the markings on there.

Haven't seen this one up close.
But usually with such model with two major colors, you'd base coat the fuselage in a solid color (white), then put the fuselage in a mask and apply the 2nd color (purple) by means of airbrushing or such. The details would get tampo printed on and in a way to hide the demarcation line that's left from mask. It's most likely that line you see.
Not sure which was first here, white or purple. But you'd get the answer with some acetone. No, don't!!

It's a little hard to see in the pictures, but you can see it pretty clearly in the second picture. You can see where it looks like a decal ends. As someone who has done customs it looks exactly like a decal.

I don't ever remembering see anything like this on the old 727's in the old FedEx colours. I've never nitpicked something about a model so much but I'm just curious why it isn't blended well enough

Models are not meant to be looked at under magnifying glasses!!

Put it on your display shelf or airport diorama and enjoy it!!

I can't argue with that. If they look good with the naked eye, they go on the shelves and I enjoy them. Excellent job on the colors for this 737. They are spot on, just as I remember them.

Wow!
Ok, now that indeed looks like a decaled custom model
The way the belly (grey?) is painted on adds to that.

Looking at the photos in the DIMA database, it appears that the SMA Federal Express 737 was done in much the same way, either gray or silver painted belly. I've never owned one, so I can't be certain.

Doesn't take a magnifying glass to see it though. I noticed it the second I took it out of the box. It's just peculiar as I've never seen that on an official release

Aeroclassicsdirect.com still has some... $41.95. Same with Jetcollector.com.
It really is a great looking model. I may be a bit biased... worked at FedEx for 40 years...

There is no decal on this model; not sure where that's coming from!!

You're welcome. Looks like both have plenty, so it should be easy to get.

Just what I posted above I'd say - FedEx oc is a difficult scheme. It just turns out rather "decaled looking". What are others copies looking like? Is that a one off glitch that slipped through or should I be even more concerned about AC's QC today?

I've seen a similar issue in some of my AC Dc-10s.

I see no issue on the DC-10. There is strip of white ink to make sure the red colour has a clear and sharp edge. Nothing to be concerned about.

I suppose the FedEx is of a similar design but something happened to the white ink. It looks as if the spray paint underneath was not fully dry.

Tampo print white ink has to be thicker than other colours otherwise it tends towards the translucent. I expect that is what we are seeing here.

Might be too harsh to call it an issue, but you can definitely see a line that looks like a decal between the tail color and the white of the fuselage.
On the other hand, the Jet-x version doesn't have it.

At the end of the day, I still prefer and love the AC version over the Jet-X one.
