Default PanAm Dragon Wings 747-100s

As we hurtle into a new die cast 747 age, don't forget the ancestors... For me, these Dragon Wings releases are unforgettable. Sure, I'll go for the latest brightest and best, but these two models mark my entry point into the hobby, and will remain a permanent part of my collection, Doug

Beautiful pic Doug! I still love my DW's 747's regardless of the toylike landing gear.

Fantastic. Classic in 1/1, classic in 1/400. Thanks Doug!

Both are classics Doug. They are keepers for me as well.

Ditto - well, I have N733PA and N736PA in the original colors, but I don't have a billboard one. I should probably look for one of those to replace the BlueBox monstrosity I have (and people think the Phoenix 747 mould is bad...)

I have N733PA and N737PA (Billboard). I passed on N736PA, due to the fate of that airplane.

I've got these two as well from my early days of 1/400 collecting and they're still a proud part of my collection. Absolutely no intention of replacing them either.

Happy collecting!

One great thing about attending Collectible Shows, is that you have a ton of Dragon Wings that are usually really reasonably priced for sale.

Very nice, i have the small titles DW 747-100, and the large titles livery on the 747 I have the GJ 74L to represent it. Maybe one day I'll get/try to find a 742 with the large titles.

An ill-starred airframe: Pan American World Airways Boeing 747 Clipper Victor was the very first Boeing 747 in service. It made its first commercial passenger flight, New York to London, 22 January 1970. Another airliner, Clipper Young America, was scheduled to make that flight but suffered mechanical problems shortly before departure. Clipper Victor was substituted, but Pan Am changed the airliner’s name to Clipper Young America. On 2 August 1970, N736PA was hijacked to Cuba, and afterwards, to avoid the negative publicity, the name of the 747 was changed back to Clipper Victor. 27 March 1977: The deadliest accident in the history of aviation occurred when two Boeing 747 airliners collided on the runway on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. 583 people died. All 248 people aboard the Royal Dutch Airlines airplane were killed. There were 61 survivors from the Pan Am Clipper (N736PA, Clipper Victor) including the co-pilot, but the remaining 335 died.

There are other Dragon Wings versions available, but Clipper Victor was the first B 747 revenue flight. Doug

Yes, Tenerife is what I was referring to. Some collectors have told me I was being silly for passing on it for that reason. I mean, it's just a model. On the other hand, being the first B747 revenue flight, is a really good reason to own it.

You're not silly, David. There will always be threats to commercial aviation, example, the 9/11 attacks - a modern version of the Trogan Horse. Doug

I picked up the billboard one off the massive Waffle collection sale that's been going on. Along with about 60 other models. I flew on Pan Am in their last few years, that billboard is my favorite scheme.

Too bad I’ve just got the L1011/707/737/A310 version from DW, missed the 747s.....
