Now, that Panda has proven they're good in creating soviet moulds with a good attention for even small details - What about a Ty-114? The only problem is the very limited amount of liveries. But I could imagine, that the collectorate will appreciate that stunt, when you really would do that one (even when being available at a appropriate pricing, having the uniqueness of the aircraft in mind).

Is that really a problem? Didn't stop Herpa with the AN-225, and it didn't stop 2 manufacturers from producing Belugas.....

True, but did it come to your mind that a Beluga might sell better than a Tu-114?

Two completely different fuselages. Tu-126 would be possible regarding fuselage dimeter.

I think people consistently get lost in the assumption that new moulds are only, ever, made strictly on the basis of profit potential.

NG has, on Facebook & Instagram, multiple times stated that one of their owners likes the 787, and is why they made their own tooling for it. Despite so many others being available on market. They wanted to make their own, so they did. Which means it would stand to reason that they wanted their own Beluga, so they went ahead and made one.

Clearly a Beluga was not made from the standpoint of maximum profit potential. They aren't that clueless.

As for a Tu-114, the uniqueness factor alone would probably make it a hot seller. But, as the OP mentioned, limited options. Wouldn't really surprise me to see a price point north of $70 USD a pop, to get reasonable ROI. If the market would support those prices, then you'll probably eventually see one.

What a bizarre photo. To my knowledge, US Navy A-4's never carried AIM-9 or any air-to-air capabilities. I can't quite tell from the photo, if that's a Sidewinder or a multiple-ejector-rack on the outboard hardpoint.

I'd love to know the circumstances behind that shot... maybe the F-4's had more tasking than airplanes, so they started launching A-4's for intercepts.

I'm seeing an AIM-9 myself. Also, its shadow is visible just below the cheat line on the drop tank. The nose shape of the shadow even suggests AIM-9B, not a later D model.

There does indeed seem to be a market for unique types in 1:400. The Beluga may not be the best example to draw as I'm betting its development was made somewhat cheaper by using already extant A330 wings, engines and undercarriage. (Likewise the Boeing Dreamlifter.) Although for two companies to pursue it...

That said, types like the An-225, the Super Guppy, the WhiteKnight 2 / SpaceShip 2, and the Ty-144 all appear to have been leaps of faith starting entirely from scratch. (Possibly engines and undercarriage reused from the An-124 on the An-225.)

So yeah, my personal biases aside I think there would indeed be a market for a Ty-114 despite it only having four distinct livery options (six if you go into minutiae.) After all, a prop more or less the size of the well loved full length TriStar? It'd look impressive, that's for sure!

Going slightly off the topic of models, but still referring to the actual aircraft, apparently these twin props make them one of the loudest prop planes known! You can hear them for miles! Don't know how true this is,but I have heard of it and can believe it a the same time!

Is true. At the risk of boring everyone, I'll quote myself from another thread.
"I attended a school in Knevichi as a young child. It was quite close to the approach/departure path for the airport. I can clearly remember hearing & seeing this amazing machine flying in and out of the airport.

You would hear a low, deep booming grumble even when it was still well out of sight. The noise was unforgettable. It still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

On take off they were even louder if that was possible. As they went past, the prop sound shifted quite noticeably and the jet exhaust noise became clearer. Ty-95, 142 and Antei sound pretty much the same unsurprisingly.

This video, despite being a modern dub, captures the sound very well.

Go to 1.00 minute and crank up your speakers. Try to watch that first take-off only once. "

Absolutely and Herpa made all the main schemes plus a fantasy model. It would have been easy to make this in 1/400, but Herpa is Herpa!

There have been so many requests for a Tu-114 in 1/400 scale that surpprisingly no one has taken up the challenge. Andrew talked about doing one at one stage, but nothing came of it. It's uniqueness would indeed make it a hot seller and I would buy every one in a heartbeat. It would only require a change of fuselage tooling to make a Tu-95 'Bear' bomber too, so any manufacturer would get a good run for their money out of the tooling.

Cummon Panda - Tu-134, now a Tu-114 and perhaps Tu-104,An-12 and An-24?

I do love a bit of Soviet metal, and I for one would buy at least one - and maybe all the available flavours. The An-225 despite being a one-off was made - and always goes for a premium..took me ages to acquire one.
Come on Panda - you know you really, really want to...

True that. Just had the An-22 flying over once again. Makes the windows vibrating even though it goes over at FL260. That sound is as awesome as the looks of it.

NG, Panda? An-22!? I'll take one Tu-114 too.

It's a crazy awesome noise isn't it?

Wasn't there a model show (in Berlin?) a year or two back where Herpa was showing something that looked a lot like an An-22 master in 1:400? Or am I misremembering? In any case I wholeheartedly agree, an Antei would make a nice partner to a Rossiya release!

Lots of nice An-22 video out there nowadays. My favourite is the departure from Prestwick where you see all the Batmobile-esque exhaust flames on the cold morning startup!

Fireworks start at about 1:15 minutes and subsequent engines light up (literally) at 1 min 30 second intervals. A rather quiet (must be recording levels as you can hear the car alarms being set off) take-off starts at 8min.
