Wow, putting Dragon Wings and Aeroclassics below Gemini Jets, that's harsh??
At least no-one's dragon wings fall apart after 10 years (i.e. zinc rot).
Every other company seems to have sorted that issue out?

Seems like the overall video was shot on the basis of construction quality and how interesting and "nice looking" each model is. Too bad they neglected far more important aspects such as mould quality and comparison to 1:1's and diversity of what's created. IMO manufacturers continue to jockey month by month year by year (it would be nice if this was the person's Summer 2020 review/standings for example. There's too much depth in comparisons to have it all summed up in one video, but an interesting format and opinion none the less.

My comment that I posted on the video (we've already had this discussion here ):

Asking which brand is the best is completely the wrong question to ask in the first place.

Phoenix 777's have historically been very good. Their A350's nose looks nothing like the real thing. Gemini probably has the best printing and color matching in the industry, but their A320 is an awful mould. Aeroclassics has the best A320 mould by far, but they often get their colors too dark. (And how can you possibly rate a manufacturer objectively when you only have one model?) Aviation400 has the best A350, but they've also made color goofs. JCWings shares a lot of moulds with Gemini - but not all - their 787 is tops, but Gemini has an inferior one. Herpa is such a niche player in 1:400 as to be irrelevant. Etc. etc.

The point is: you really have to review individual moulds and models - anyone that claims any particular manufacturer is 'better' than another is just fanboying and I wouldn't take their opinion seriously.

Half of Dragon Wings where made of plastic, so that reduces any zinc rot issues by 50%.

I agree, I also think the Youtuber doesn't have enough experience to consolidate all this information in a 20 minute video towards 20,000 subscribers which could influence the opinions of them towards the brands he put at the bottom, now potentially 20,000 people will believe Dragon wings and Aeroclassic's are lower quality models. Not that it really matters for DW as they don't produce civilian aircraft models anymore. Oh well, more for me then!

To be fair, GJ cater for many tastes and have produced so many models, but each individual collector knows in their own mind who best caters for their specific taste.

I used to judge GJ poorly because being a 707 lover, their 707 mould is known to be pants, but in fairness they have produced plenty of good stuff and deserve their excellent reputation overall.

For me Aeroclassics are still the best, but new kids on the block NG are producing some superb stuff. Phoenix have also produced some very nice stuff, though arguably to a considerably lesser degree, as have one or two others like Herpa and JC Wings with a few gems. Dragon Wings are now for me, a producer of the past almost but they started in this scale strongly.

It is unfair to pick on the brand name when referring to zinc rot, and not the factory which made it, which was WITTY Industrial. As a result of that zinc rot debacle, AeroClassics severed ties with that factory, and moved elsewhere. They also rereleased most of those infected models at a reduced price. Not much else one could have done in that corrupt country.

I need to say, he at least searched for opinions about the brands he didn’t knew too much... But I disagree in most of his opinions, except for the A ones.

I would honestly rate Dragon Wings high. They are resilient and you can even take their landing gear off whenever you please. It's really nice.

I have many Dragonwings in my collection!! My 400 scale collection started with them, and they've made some stellar releases over the years. A few duds too, but so has everyone else, without exception.
The premise of this thread is a load of bollocks, and the video on Youtube is a complete bore. The author has absolutely no idea what he is talking about, and is an insult to the hobby, and it's history, which he is completely ignorant of!!

Apologies Andrew, was merely stating that I will buy an Aeroclassics, phoenix or Dragon model with 100% confidence over a GJ model.

Agreed! I started my collection with Dragon Wings and there are still plenty in my collection. Some have been released by other brands over the years, but there's still a charm about them, despite their age or simple landing gear!

... and the best part, the landing gear easily come off, and the model can be displayed on their stand, gear up!!

My first DW models were the Air China and China Eastern A-340s at an airliner show in SFO. The guy who sold them to me, ML, told me about this new brand. Then I remembered seeing one when I arrived at the airport, and went racing back to the United Airlines concourse, and bought an Aer Lingus A-321.

Yeah I've replied a couple of times on my comment now, but from his responses it's increasingly clear to me that this guy's just talking out of his a$$ - it's unfortunate that so many people seem to bank on his opinions.

Ladies and gentleman, I bring you the ADHD generation! Where your experience and knowledge of a subject is measured by the amount of viewwwzzz and subscriberz you have, and not by the years and amount of models one has. And a 787 dreamliner is more important than a DC-8 simply because it gets more attention on youtube, I mean, who cares about the retro stuff right?

That was 20 mins of my life wasted on watching that rubbish. Unbelievable. I refrained from commenting there because I think it's pointless. If any real, proper and fully informed work was done, a video like that would not exist in the first place, but the supporters of it wouldn't care about that, as it's all about instant gratification for them. No apparent interest in the roots or real history of aviation itself either, as there appears to be a great deal of ignorance displayed about all the classic moulds that are in existence by the reviewer, given what he said about Aeroclassics in particular! To just gloss over it like that is almost criminal, given the incredible contribution that they have made to this hobby.
