What a pointless thread.

“Something will happen. But it’s a secret.”

But by Mr Harvey’s reaction, maybe it starts with “S”?? And ends in “tarlifter”?? Haha.

Tarlifter!!! I wish!

I don't know what it is. But it's about time "something big" comes in 1/400, hence my response! Whatever it is, I hope it is something big in the eyes of all.

Ending in J and O I meant the IJN Junyo. AK thinks that if Panda Models can get into warships and make a Bismarck model then he can go one better and make some aircraft carriers

If history tells us anything, when NG was in the process of rolling out their L-1011, Aeroclassics did the same. It makes sense that with NG working on a classics 747, that the revitalization of the old 747 BigBird mould is on the table.

If it is indeed the veteran BB400 B.747 mould making a return via Aeroclassics, then we might see some classics that were missed the first time around, and never got done/re-done on this tooling; like Iraqi delivery, Swissair chocolate stripe, SAA revised with “Super B” titles & later variant with “SAA” heavy titles, to name a few; if it’s going to be the 741/2 mould. As I understand it, JC had tweaked this vintage mould and had updated it with added antenna. However, the last example we saw released, which was on the revived “400 Your Craftsman” label (KLM white-top delivery), the originally delicate and fine looking wing tip antenna had become rather fat and crude looking on the re-tooled version. Other than that, it was the same 747 classic mould from years past, and would be nice to see again if used to it’s full potential. With NG’s SP around the corner, we’ll probably see another sudden hive of activity as we did with the TriStar.

So, if we're talking 741/2 tooling, then I can begin programming my mind to hope for a United Saul Bass large titles classic jumbo?

Yeah that’s another one that wasn’t done. Actually, small titles on an original delivery 10-window upper deck too - the BB400 was a 3-window version (ex-American Airlines I think?). Will be interesting to see which tooling this turns out to be.

Well if we are to see a new or updated classic 747-100 or 200, can we start with the grand old lady herself please ? (copyright=Boeing stock photo)

Yes, Alex, it would be vey good to see some models that were missed on this tooling. Some were done by Gemini or Dragon, others weren't done at all. Now we pray that Aeroclassics' factory gets the research and colors consistently right. And I sure hope it has the correct aerials. The fat broom-handle aerials on the "BigBird Mk 3" KLM delivery-livery 747 are very annoying.

In addition to the excellent suggestions you offer, some that come to my mind are:

--United blue-star (done by Dragon but not AC);
--Some national carriers that to my knowledge were never done in 1:400: Kuwait 80's broad cheatline, Cameroon Airlines, Air Zaire
--Some badly-needed reissues: Northwest Orient, Japan Air Lines, Air France cheatline delivery-livery

Jim

The fat broom-handle aerials on the "BigBird Mk 3" KLM delivery-livery 747 are very annoying.

In addition to the excellent suggestions you offer, some that come to my mind are:

--United blue-star (done by Dragon but not AC);
--Some national carriers that to my knowledge were never done in 1:400: Kuwait 80's broad cheatline, Cameroon Airlines, Air Zaire
--Some badly-needed reissues: Northwest Orient, Japan Air Lines, Air France cheatline delivery-livery

Jim
All brilliant suggestions Jim, and love the “broom-handle” analogy, that one made me laugh! Air Zaire would be a superb release - forgot that one! And all those other exotic carriers, great stuff. Air France delivery is also badly needed, that is an impossible one to find. Let’s see what happens.

There will always be collectors, new to the game, or missed out the first time, or simply cannot affordably buy those releases. It's all just part and parcel of the hobby. Another way of looking at it, is that newer, updated releases of older versions might encourage a few of the older releases onto the after market at prices that don't bring on sudden acid reflux.

Wow!!!

Presuming it is the old BB mould, is it only the 100/200 or will the 300 and 400 moulds also be making a comeback at some point?

A new 747 was desperately needed so this is very exciting.

The only types of aircraft that a model maker may make too much of are for example:

• Hughes H-1 Hercules
• Dassault Mercure
• Let L-610
• BeA ATP
• Antonov An-225 Mriya
• Bristol Brabazon
• VFE Fokker 614
• Tupolev Tu-334
• Ilyushin Il-114
• Breguet 941
• SAAB 2000
• Mitsubishi Spicejet
• Shanghai Y-10
• Yakovlev Yak-42
• Fairchild Dornier Do 728
• Antonov An-148/178
• ... you get the gist

Some more to add to the wishlists for 747's (assuming this is what is coming). A decent BOAC with correct titles, Royal Air Maroc and I don't believe there has been a JALCargo in the original 1970's cheatline colours (that would be very high on my list as a big fan of the original JAL livery on Jumbo's).

I am sure there are many, many that can be done - not only liveries that have been "missed" previously but plenty of remakes that would sell over and over.

Could be some interesting times if we see both Aeroclassics and NG giving us a selection of 747's in the near future...

Good call, indeed we have yet to have a really good accurate BOAC 747-100. Also some rare Big Bird 747s would be very good sellers like Air France, Air India and South African Airways all in delivery schemes with cheatlines before they all got degraded into the 'Eurowhite' schemes!
