Interesting choice by NG. Not something I have high on my list in terms if moulds but it's very exciting to see them filling gaps in the market rather than something that's been done so many times by so many people. Anyway for me I would love this!

It's good to see many of you get your wish and seeing this mould come back to life though the odd shape just doesn't do it for me. I would be very excited to see the 747 -100/200/300/400 though.

To me if you're a 747 enthusiast like myself, the SP is a must!! The 'Jumbo' has taken on many transformations,so imho I think if you're collecting all versions of the 747, then surely you should appreciate the SP. Did you ever see these aircraft fly? They looked unique and squat/stocky, so in a way could be compared to the butch 'bodybuilder' of the 747 family!! Collecting all the other 74's and leaving out the SP to me seems rediculous! 😉👊

That mindset will probably be what gets me through to having at least one SP. Didn't see much SPs at all IRL and whenever I do, I cringe at the awkward stocky shape. It's like biting into a strawberry I know will be sour - but hey, it's a strawberry. Each time presented with the chance I'd cast my gaze on one and then wish I hadn't.

Collected all the 747 types except for the SP. Just couldn't get past it's awkward look. But if NG are doing this, you know the -100/200 are on the way. And there are some nice ones to be done and more that can be redone for the ones who came late to the party.

I can hardly wait for NG's 747SP mould. I grew up loving the Queen of the Skies, in all her forms.

The Herpa and Gemini moulds are good, but not definitive. Their fat aerials are noticeable. I for one will buy pretty much any national or trunk carrier that NG will make. Government and private ones, I'll pass on those. Others can enjoy them.

And I would love to see NG to 747-100/200 -300 and -400 moulds. We'll see what the future holds.

I would agree with those asking for Pan Am and the Oman Government 747SP (A40-SO)

If it makes things easier, The Omanis had a second SP with registration A4O-SP which was removed from service when their -400 arrived. It did not have the 'hump' behind the upper deck.
It eventually became N747A with Fry's Electronics.

I attach a photo I have of A4O-SO still in Braniff livery wearing its Omani registration and departing Wichita after installation of the 'hump' and all its enclosed equipment.
Date of photo approx Aug1984

So I was told by the Oman Gov't person who gave me the picture.
It was its first flight after the fitting of the comms fairing (the 'hump').
It was done, so I was told, at a Boeing facility. Was there not a Boeing facility in Wichita in the 1980s?
I would be happy to be corrected if it was done somewhere else.
Thanks.

Wichita used to be the home of Boeing’s military production lines, as well a huge part of its commercial business as well. The contractors that replaced the Wichita division still build significant components of the 737 and 787. It was for a long time the second largest Boeing concentration in the world.

IMHO, collecting all 747's incl. the SP and leaving out the 747-100 or 747-400 is ridiculous. The SP is just a bonus add-on. I'll probably buy one NG models SP, probably in the Iran Air colors or the NASA one, but it's still an ugly airplane to me. These days, I don't buy models to "complete the collection" anymore, especially considering a widebody NG model will probably run higher than $55 USD (going off the Beluga XL prices).

I’ve heard rumblings of a $60 MSRP on the SP. We’ll see.

$60 is one dollar too many. If that turns out to be the cost, I won't be having any. My Gemini Jets and Herpa editions will have to make do, and will, so help me. Doug

Even though I'm not one who's 'blessed' with loads of money, I'm more than happy to pay this out if the quality is top notch! Which I'm sure NG will deliver!

I'll wait to see the actual price before reacting.

And, of course, since retailers can have discount codes, most? all? buyers will pay less than the list price.

I actually am gonna have to disagree with most on here, expressing shock and outrage at the price point. Let's do some simple math on it.

Comparing GJ prices, between their recent few L1011's, and some recent 747's. The L1011's sit in the ballpark of $40.95 USD retail, before coupon codes and all that. Obviously it varies from retailer to retailer, but that's a ballpark starting point. The GJ 747's of recent release, retail from $47.95 to $50.95. A 17% to 20% increase over the price of the L1011's.

Applying the same percentage increase to NG, and using their L1011 ballpark retail price of $49.95 USD, that gives you a 747 price of $58.50 to $62.18. So, $60 a pop really isn't a rumor, but something everyone should probably prepare for.

Using percentages from another manufacturer is, more or less, comparing apples and oranges. But, it's also not unreasonable to use it as a gauge of what to expect.

I agree here totally!
If the mould is the true representation of the aircraft and it's done to NG's awesome quality and attention to detail, then it's not a lot really! And considering the SP or any 747 for that matter will be much bigger in comparison to the L1011,then it's a no brainer!
One more thing,..yes I realise the scale is significantly far smaller than other scales and especially considering I also collect HobbyMaster Military jets which are now £80 upwards, it's not a shock to me to be 'taking out a bank loan' for models nowadays!
