Default Clearance sale at the local shop

Local shop likes buying up smaller shops that are going out of business... they had a ton of old stock (early-mid 2000s up to about 2012) models for sale in 1:400 (plus tons of 1:500 Herpas and a lot of old Schabaks).

Got some below. Any idea who made the last 3 Pan Am models? The rest are marked but those are not.

I noticed in my research that the SMAC widget 732s were prone to zinc rot - at this point I have to imagine that any zinc rot would have manifested. I did see one that had rot in the box, but the one below seems fine other than a broken right horizontal stabilizer which some superglue easily fixed.

For $15 apiece ($25 for the two-model Air Nippon set), I think it's a good haul?

There's a second set of models I bought the day before that I'll post up. I may be back there to get more... like... today...

Sorry for the sideways pics.

Interesting - were they made by another company under that brand or is this another company that just specialized in nothing but Pan Am?

Next batch. Shops are in the DFW area so no surprise there were some AAs floating around...

Pan Am Models Co was just a licensing dodge by Aeroclassics I think. The Tristar isn't Pan Am Models Co though that is most likely Blue Box.

Thanks, that's good to know - the moulds did look similar although I certainly don't have your eye for it.

I've been referencing your site every time I've been in that store looking at all these older models (and whenever I'm looking for newer models too). Didn't even know that the DC-9-10s from AC were held together by a screw until I read your mould review and turned them over. Still sort of regret leaving them behind, though, they had a nice Eastern and a nice Braniff. Thanks for producing such a great resource!

You bought some nice models, at a good price. Well done.

Hi,
Those AA models are pretty awesome. I live in the DFW metroplex and Would love to visit this store as well. I fly for AA and am a big fan of the retro jets. Would you share details about the name and location of this store please. Hoping there are still some AA jets left.
Thanks

Very clever not disclosing the name of the shop...

Jackpot! there are some very rare expensive models for cheap there you should buy their whole remaining inventories. There seems to be a lot of hidden gems

I would keep an eye on that SMA Delta widget 732. It is one of the planes known for Zinc Rot.

I read about that and examined it closely. No signs of it. On the other hand they had a SMA Continental 732 with cracked paint and wings pointing towards the sky.

I figure it’s been long enough that the zinc rot would have manifested already.
