Default Aeroclassics May releases

Most already up on E. Bay with Buchair USA New York. How come they get them even before they are announced?
In 1/400

Surinam and SAS DC-8-63s look lovely and on my 'wants' list.

Northwest 'bowling shoe' Boeing 727-200 red looks once again too dark. I guess more will follow.

Some of the May releases have been on eBay for a week and a half, maybe 2 weeks now.

Here are three of them. How many times has it been said that the 'Northwest red' used by Aeroclassisc is TOO dark! Almost maroon! Northwest red is a bright red.

Aeroclassics does absolutely fantastic DC8's. I hope one day we see the 'Super 70' series from them. But, in the meantime, would anyone else share in wanting any of the below??

1) Emery DC-8-62
AC already gave us a DC-8-63 in this livery, would love to see the shorter version as well.

2) BAX Global DC-8-63
Cool old livery. I know another user has pitched the 707 for this livery, as well. I think BAX also had some 727-200's.

3) ATI DC-8-62 Combi
The last of the passenger DC8's. Was anyone lucky enough to get on one of the enthusiast flights they ran??

As for this month, I've seen some Northwest DC9-50's floating around on ebay, as well. I'll probably end up getting a couple of those.

The DHL DC-8-63, too, sure looks tempting.

I'm not sure what their enthusiast flights were, but I did fly on one of their -62s in 1995 from Yokota Air Base to MCAS Iwakuni. It was both my very first and last DC-8 flight. Cabin inside was part passenger and part cargo. Incredibly, AeroClassics already released the -62 in the livery that I flew on!

That's really cool, I'm envious you got on a DC8. I never was on the type.

Back when ATI announced a retirement date for their DC8 fleet, they scheduled a few 'enthusiast flights', where spotters and fans of the planes could take a DC8 flight from Point A to Point A. They'd take off, fly around and sightsee a bit, then land back at the same airport. Given how those Combi's only held like 30 passengers, the tickets were pretty steep. $2,000 dollar ballpark, I seem to recall. There's a few videos on youtube, from people who were on those last ATI DC8 flights.

That Surinam is damn gorgeous. I'll be getting it though I wish it had been PH-DEM that was also in full Surinam colours - and seen at Heathrow quite regularly for a while after its return to KLM.

One of my favourite schemes adorning the SDC-8. Thank you Aeroclassics. Also like the Scanair and SAS DC-8s which are very nice too, but can only really afford one model a month these days.

Regards the Northwest colour, sometimes it does look dark red in dull weather and that is how I remember seeing it.

Sadly I've been told the European and Surinam DC-8s will not be included in this month's announcement even though a few seem to have slipped out to people like Buchair. They will be announced in June or July so save some pennies for them.

Tbh I'm not a big collector of DC-8's but do have two that Gemini did and they came out ( I think it's some decades ago now!). Namely the BAX Global and DHL old colours and both with newer engines. Love them to this day!! Sorry thought I'd share! Lol!

Many thanks Richard, it does my nut in that they appear on Ebay before us - the collectorate.

Maybe there is a genuine reason and it can't be helped.

Oh well, disappointing, but I don't mind waiting a little longer knowing that it will be released. I've already reserved space for her next to B743 Combi PH-BUW and A343 PZ-TCP.

I'd go for the ATI DC8-61 (I think). It was a combi.

Also would really really love it if GJ made the 70's

Did you mean you hope AC makes Super 70's?? Because GJ has, indeed, made 70's. For all three of the above-named cargo carriers too, actually.

Personally, I think AC does a much better DC8 than GJ, and is why I hope to eventually see an AC option for the type.

Must admit I like both AC and GJ Super DC-8's, and I can't decide whether the GJ is a little too bloated or AC is a little too skinny. But the early DC-8s (not stretched) for me AC win hands down.

AC also win the 707 contrast hands-down.

All producers have good and bad moulds, both GJ and AC have produced some cracking stuff.

Yeah it took me awhile to decide on the DC8 battle, as well. Comparing the cross-section of other similar types, I reached my own conclusion that the GJ DC8 is a bit too bloated. Others may disagree with me, I'm sure.

So, I prefer the AC DC8's. That said, the GJ DC8-70's are really quite good, a huge improvement over their earlier attempts. But, I'd still love to see an AC version of the Super 70's.

AC does definitely win on 707's though, for sure.

I have never seen a photo. With such short leases I doubt they were ever painted in Aer Lingus colours

Absolutely. Both unfortunately skipped over on the GJ production run of the 70's. Definitely would look great in an AC run.

When I look at the stretched DC-8 it amazes me how they actually flew so well. Also with narrow wings, you would think they would easily lose aerodynamic flight. The stresses on the airframe must have been immense.

To stress again - not that I know anything about aerodynamics.

Just a reminder to Andrew, if the DC-8-63 mould is in use, we still need this one.

A real beauty Adrian, I'm surprised there isn't more clamour from our American friends for this one.

A true classic in every sense of the word, a bit like Flying Tigers.

The official AeroClassics sales flyer is posted on the AeroClassics Facebook page. It has been posted since the May 22 announcement.

https://aeroclassicsdirect.com is another place to find release info along with actual photos of the models.
