Default Custom recommendations

Hi there,
This is my first post so apologies if this was already covered as a topic, the search history didn't throw anything up.
I'm looking for guidance to get some custom 1/400 models done - does anybody have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Tim

Do you want to do them yourself?

I can help with that. You'll need nail polish remover and some cue tips.

take your model and gently rub the nail polish remover on it with the cue tips. This can be tedious and take a while, but eventually your model will have no markings and just whatever colour the maker used as a base, usually white. Whatever you do don't leave it in the nail polish remover overnight or else even the white will come off.

Then you simply paint with model specific paint and apply decals like you would on a model kit. There are a lot of decal makers out there so depending what you want you may not even need to make a special request

Hello.

There's a custom model section on this forum, where a bunch of custom model makers can help you. If you're trying to have someone else do custom model work for you, I'd highly recommend contacting airplanereplicas (go to the website and get the email from the contact) and email them, if you're trying to do it yourself, BPanio's post above is very informative, and you can find a bunch more scrolling the custom model section

I've had no luck getting anyone to offer to paint a pair of Yak42s in 1/400 that I have got, frustratingly.

Have been trying for a few months now.

Thanks for the advice, I'm actually looking for someone else. The below sounds way beyond my skill level but appreciate the input.

I believe it's a 3d printed model at shapeways.

Presumably he is talking about the Seagull mould. They came and went in the blink of an eye, never sold their models via shops and produced a rather pointless Macedonian Yak-42. Super annoying as the mould looked ok and has now vanished.

Indeed, hard white plastic moulds from Shapeway, adequate though slightly larger than 1/400 I would say. Usually available for £15 on Ebay.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...2F400&_sacat=0

Just need to find someone to paint them.

Also look at www.printedplanes.com - I've gotten a Yak-42 and a EMB-110 (1:200 but they can do 1:400 as well) from them and they look quite nice.

Wow, I see they do an AN22 which I have just ordered, also things like an Argosy, DC-5, F28-400, BEa146-300, Dash 7, and a Dassault Mercure.

Came to £16 including P & P but in the order I have asked if they can apply Antonov Design Bureau scheme decals to it (you are asked to add an image which I have done). Obviously I will get an email to pay more if they can.

I'm not sure how decals work, can any be done? Or just more popular / mainstream airlines?

Are they actually able to add decals to the models and if so, do you know how much that would cost?

I will let you know when I get a reply from them.

When you complete the order for the mould it specifically asks if you want decals added (which I confirmed I did - it asks you to add a photo which I also did), but it completes the order just for the mould itself.

I guess if they can add decals I will be getting a separate email with an additional bill/invoice.

Additionally, just for the mould, it says orders may take 6 weeks as they are individually done and not held in stock.

Mine did take a while to arrive, but I don't recall it being quite that long.

I'm also curious how the decal thing turns out, I didn't see that option when I ordered.

I think it is a new option Denny, I might be wrong but I don't recall having that option previously when I got the Yak42s.
