I like the first photo. It seems very real.
The first backdrop suggests a landscape in the Northen of Germany or in Denmark.

The second an english landscape.
The third in the Southern of Germany

The skyline in no. 4 looks like Minneapolis. Maybe the Star Alliance-Member SAS got diverted from ORD? :+)

Terrific photos. I would like taxiway and backdrop photos for my photos. I would need an intersection, like you have, to allow for angled poses. How are the photos printed? Would one need large photo paper?

Hi Guys.

Thanks for all the kind words. Happy you liked it.

Backdrops are printed on A3 paper (I do this in the office). Size is approx 29X42 cm (European standard). Photos are dowloaded from Internet.

These new backdrops was something I did not take any notes on during download. Just happy to find free downloads that I liked. The printout does not have to be very high resolution since it creates kind of 3D effect with the model/airplane in focus.

The base was made maybe 10 years ago using prints from the Pixel port CD (Aprons, parking, taxi ways etc on one CD). Bought some "train hobby" grass and cut out. The base is a thick MDF board. Everything quite basic.

I have different cameras but mostly I use the one in the photo, a small Lumix camera. Often I use my iPhone (8+). SAS A330 is taken on the iPhone.

Except for buying/receiving new models, taking photos is really something I like to do. Eagerly waiting for many pre-orders and these are mostly not from the not so quick companies. JCW, AV400 really take their time......

Of Course, you are welcome. Just the way I like to do.

I have flow a lot in my daily work but not always remember buildings etc..

If in Europe just happy to have arrived on time and rush for the way out to grab a taxi or look for a driver with a sign with my name on....

It really shows how accurate the moulds have gotten. The little jet's photos hold up well to magnification on the PC monitor.

Thank you for the explanation, Steinar! Much appreciated. If I do this kind of setup, I'd probably print up several backgrounds, like you have.

This is just superb and thanks for sharing what you do with these models. I wish I had the time to experiment. Maybe someday I will be retired and can just do this kind of stuff!

Exactly my thoughts. Although 1/200 works with a larger pallet allowing for detail that is more easily seen with the naked eye, 1/400 often reveals similar detail when closely scrutinized with a lupe or enlarged image. That's the appeal - these 1/400 moulds/models are literally small jewels. Getting more expensive, but more accurate and detailed, too. Don't take up as much space, either.

Eirikur Raudi is the master of the backdrop, a method he has shared and many of us have followed. Is this a great hobby, or what? Doug

Here's one for Eirikur (an SAS guy). Dragon Wings 55651 SAS A330-343X released in 2004, at Finkenwerder (background image from Airliners.net). Doug

Hi Doug.

Thanks, this is a GOOD ONE! I hesitated to buy this model (at that time) but I regret it now since another real SAS A330 model from Dragon was "white/white" and not the real SAS white. This one, in your photo, is more real than the "real white one" from Dragon.

About the hobby, yes taking photos is a deeper dimension of the hobby other than just collecting new models. If I have contributed with something to the 1:400 hobby/collectors, I'm very happy.

I'm retiring later this year so maybe I will have more time to add parts of " custom built" airport buildings and passenger bridges to my photos. Let's see what happens.

Take good care in these difficult times. And Sweden is NOT suffering that much. We are free to work and move around if no sign of symptoms. My daily life is almost as normal as normal. Most important, don't visit older people. That is the Swedish strategy.

Easter greetings to all of you!

Steinar
