I thought GJ uses the same 777 as JC. GJ already released the LH Cargo (D-ALFA). I have the JC release D-ALFE with the Lifting I NEXT markings. Really nice model!

Maybe in earlier days, but not now. They're vastly different. GJ is a cradle mould, JC is not, as one point of reference.

772 Asiana old and current colors
772 ANA and JAL current colors
772 Aeromexico 2000s and current colors, Air New Zealand current colors.
773 Thai, Singapore, ANA, JAL
772 LR Air India, Air Canada, Ethiopian
773 ER Air New Zeland, Air Canada (last release was inexplicably done in Gemini Jets mold which in this time and age is an aberration), American, United and all three ME3.

Frankly, Gemini should remove their mould from the market and use JC’s from now on, but I reckon they are protecting their yields by utilizing that old tired mold, which is how old? 20 years old?

I wouldn't mind a fresh take on the BA Landor 772 actually. It's been a long time since that Gemini Jets release.

Amen to that Also a Thai 772 in original 90s livery would be welcome. Surprisingly not covered by Phoenix despite their preference for Asian carriers. Dragon were the only manufacturer to attempt this (rather poorly). Looking forward to seeing the latest 777-9 in the real blue Boeing livery JC have in the offering.

Heh, I have one of the Dragon ones that I got in my earliest collecting days, before I had any clue about what moulds were good. I've kept it as the one that I can hand to nieces/nephews/other small kids that might come over to view my collection so they don't get grabby with any others.

Yeah especially now that the original BA arrivals from 1996, G-ZZZA (the GJ release) and G-ZZZB have now officially been flown out to pasture.

So did I. I recently sold my PHX TAAG Angola 777-300ER on Evilbay. I see no need imo to re release it as it was a beauty.

That's the reason why you sold it, huh...=

Have you ever compared a JCW 777 to a PHX 777? ….ist like comparing their 787s. It is not only that JCW offers a flaps-down Option, the wings and stabs simply look crude on the PHX version next to JCWs (also the undercarriage). Almost every JCW mould looks more like a collectors item than a toy compared to the PHX counterpart..

I stopped buying around the time Nick 'JetWays Models' got out of the selling business. I guess I have never held a new JCWs 777 in my hands to inspect. Still love aviation just not collecting models any longer.

Interestingly enough, Gemini has actually used the new JC 777 mould recently. It was the Japan Self Defense Force 777. The dead-giveaway obviously was the slot-in wings and orginally offering both the flaps-up and flaps-down configurations. The code is GMJSD086 if anyone wants to look it up.

You and me both Plane737! I stopped collecting 1:400 a few years back and I guess from what the 1:400 crew are saying, the one to beat for the 777 is now the JCW.

Must be expensive for those long term 1:400 collectors with getting the latest and greatest! Can't see paying $50 plus for a 1:400 model! When I got into it, was about $24.95 unless you hit a show and was cheaper! When I ended was in the high $30s to mid $40s. Good riddance 1:400, I might look back, but can't see ya with my eyesight!

This hobby is expesive in general. You just have to figure out which amount of money you wanna spend per month. Unfortunately my amount is pretty flexible depending which models fall into my collecting criteria. A problem you'll be getting when you "Buy what you like" - when you like a lot of models due to whatever the reason might be.

Phoenix also cannot print cockpit windows on their 777 to save their life. The new JC Wings 777s are much superior.

I think in that area GJ wins. They are usually spot on with most colors. JC is probably 2nd with PHX 3rd, although I'd say most of the time they are all pretty good. But I've seen more color goofs on JC and PHX.

To e honest I am mostly biased by the moulds accuracy. Correct color shades are a nice add-on but not necessarily a must for me.
The only 1/400 PHX model I have n my collection is the Il-96. This ne is pretty well done. But PHX screwed the Cubana as they printed the windowline too high..

I´m not sure which is the best current 777 mould. I own the current JC and the current Phoenix mould. The 777 LATAM Star Wars by Phoenix is pretty decent IMO.

Having multiple Phoenix and JC Wings 777-300 models in my possession, the JC Wings mould is superior. The engines are better proportioned (though more recent Phoenix releases increased the engine diameter, they are still a bit narrower and shorter in length); the printing is of higher quality (especially on the wings), and the tail cone has more detailed moulding. The nose and fuselage shape on both are excellent, but Phoenix sits a bit too low to the ground, so the JC Wings captures the feel of the 777 better than Phoenix.

It's a shame Gemini Jets doesn't use the JC 777 so it would get more use.

I found this tiny channel on youtube, and it seems like a model plane review channel. The first review was a 777-300ER KLM. I've been looking at lots of plane channels. I like supporting and watching aviation channels, especially newborn ones!

Here is the 777-300ER by JC Wings (KLM on the right) and Phoenix (Air Canada on the left) side-by-side. The landing gear on the JCW is taller, so the fuselage sits higher. The size of the JCW engines are more accurate as well. The Phoenix is by no means a bad mould, but the JCW outshines it.

Yeah you should show the tailcone as well - JC's is excellent with the moulded APU exhaust - Phoenix just prints it on. But I have tons of Phoenix 777's as well - they were the standard until JC's latest mould. Early JC 777's (5-6 years ago) are pretty poor.

One problem is that Phoenix releases more 777 than JC Wings.

The cockpit window printing on their more recent 777s and printing in general is inferior on Phoenix models to JC Wings. That's even before you get to the moulds. The JC Wings mould is better but it is very marginal they are both excellent.

However I repeat the printing quality on Phoenix is a weaker.

I have reviewed both several times in detail:

In the photos I've seen, the cockpit/nose area looks a bit like the old JC's so I'm a little hesitant, and as Richard says, they've only made China Airlines so far and I've got enough examples of that airline already. But maybe someone here has picked one up and could add to the comparisons.

I agree wholeheartedly with u Battle4Cry. The JC version is definitely better with more detail for sure. Plus JCW have nailed the GE90 engine which you can see is significantly bigger in diameter on the JC 777 compared to the PHX one. My mind is definitely made up! Thanks Battle4Cry for sharing the pics.

Just a small detail, and I know this is splitting hairs a bit, but does it drive anyone else crazy how round holes are drilled for aerials that don't have a round insert? At least on many Phx examples there isn't that funny gap between the base of the aerials and the aerial itself. I still prefer the JC myself, but so much attention to detail and then there's that weird gap. Hope either the aerial and the way it is fitted to the mould can be improved one day!

I think this is where I would agree with AK that macrophotography doesn't do 1:400 models any favors. Of course he thinks all aerials in 1:400 are gimmicks, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe the hole is not visible on the PHX mould because the antennas are more crisp on the JC mould. it is recognizable, but it is so small that it does not affect me in my conclusion concerning the mould itself.

I agree with everything you're saying. I also stopped around the time you did.

However, with this home confinement thing, I recently made a spreadsheet of all my 1:400s. With the help of magnifying glass to read registrations and the like, it was fun to revisit these models from years ago.

That being said, I added a few to the collection since Aeroclassics prices have come down due to them dumping retailers. Plus their turbojet and -40 DC-8 models are fantastic.

I have many PHX's 777 but I only have two JC's. Kuwait and Eva Air. To me both of these far outshine the Phoenix ones!!
