Default Tens & Trouble: Spantax in the 80s

Following on from part 1. Spantax's troubles began to grow as the 1980s dawned at the same time as it expanded into long-haul leisure travel. DC-10s joined the fleet but the airline's structural problems were difficult to overcome:

Great stuff again Rich, as I said before, as kids getting into aviation, my mates and me would cycle down to Glasgow Airport on sunny summer, weekend mornings, in the early 80's to see an 'exotic' Spanair Coronado or long DC-8 arrive to pick up local holidaymakers. They really are my 'guilty pleasure' in airline terms these days, and the more models to collect, the better. In fact I'd say an early livery DC-8-61 is very much within the realms of 'holy grail' to me now.

Very interesting Richard! Thanks!

Agree with Big Al, a Spantax DC-8-61 in the original c/s as well as DC-10 in same scheme would be great.

If AeroClassics wants to drive the collectorate wild, just release a DHC-7 in any livery. A hidden classic that needs some exposure. Doug

Overseas National Airways and the DC10 had a disastrous relationship, ONA suffering crashes of it's first two DC-10s, with hull loses of both but no fatalities. Then the lease of their DC-10-30 to Spantax which later crashed with fatalities. Jinxed. Doug

The Coronado's were always wonderful to see at Manchester, when I was a kid.
Simply beautiful !
