Now that is some news! I look forward to this very much but really hope we get a good range of models release. Your record with the 737-600 has not been good.

YES!!

Please please please make this beauty:

Alrosa Tu-134 RA-65693 by Denny Payne

This was the last one left in commercial service - just retired last year.

(Kosmos still flies theirs but I don't think it's bookable in any normal fashion).

Excellent news for y’all Soviet fans!

Interesting choice on the first release... I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that Aeroflot livery before.

Wow. I'd kinda given up on this one!

I was not expecting Panda to be company to make this. Based on earlier rumors I assumed Panda was working on a Ty-204 instead, and NG was possibly considering the 134. Go figure.

I'm very happy and pleased to hear Panda have avoided any problems with Covid-19.

In the late 60's early 70's Aeroflot trialed a number of schemes which were meant to result in a unified color scheme to be worn by all types. (Up to that point individual aircraft types tended to have schemes designed more or less specifically for the aircraft in question*, incorporating common features of course.) This blue tail scheme was applied to a number of aircraft of various different types (including Il-18 and Ty-154 at least) to gauge its popularity and check things like application costs, maintenance requirements etc and lasted for quite a few years even past the adoption of the universal 'billboard' scheme which was settled on in 1973. Despite this scheme losing out to the 'billboard' it was evidently popular enough that it almost made a comeback right at the end of the 80's when Aeroflot once again considered updating its livery. The collapse of the Soviet Union put the kibosh on that plan.
So while it wasn't a 'standard' livery, it did exist on multiple aircraft for quite a few years. An interesting choice and one I'll happily snap up as soon as it hits the shelves.

Assuming of course it gets more reliable global distribution than previous Panda releases!

* This was the scheme for the Ty-134 when it entered service in the 60's

Great news - hope this mould gets done to same high standard as NG, carefully research accurate design and livery applications!

I'd love to see the various Aeroflot liveries made plus these:

- Aviogenex
- Balkan Bulgarian (80s & 90s green, red, white c/s)
- Baltic International
- Belavia
- CSA (OK Jet 80's c/s as per Vitek 76 above, and the 90's c/s)
- Interflug
- Latavio
- LOT (80s/90's c/s)
- Malev (80s c/s and 90s c/s as per 7Seven7's recommendation above)
- Pulkovo
- Syrianair

Good luck with this project!

Fantastic, the first tu 134 to ever be made in 1/400. I cant wait to see what model can come from this mould. Obviously some of these would be hard to make but I'd love to see them in 1/400.

Russian air force 'black pearl' RF-12037

Russian air force RF-65733

Air Koryo p-813

Ukrainian air force 63957

Rossiya RA-65904

Ra-65700

There are plenty of options but personally I'd much rather see classic Tu-134s operated by the Warsaw Pact airlines and even Russian independents than military ones. That's just my opinion though.

Here are my thoughts in general on this topic:

Quite agree - we've been asking for this in 1/400 for years, so surely the best sales would come if this model is made in the colours of the flag carriers of the Warsaw Pack countries. Here are my top two dozen and I would buy every one:

1. Aeroflot ( Soviet Union) delivery colours CCCP-reg
2. Aeroflot (Soviet Union) late colours CCCP-reg
3. Aeroflot (Russia flag) RA- reg
4. Aeroflot leased to Malev
5. Aeroflot final silver livery
6. LOT Poland – delivery colours
7. LOT Poland – late colours
8. Balkan – Bulgarian delivery colours – red cheatline
9. Balkan – Bulgarian delivery colours – blue cheatline
10. Balkan – Bulgarian – final colours
11. Interflug – East Germany
12. Malev – Hungary delivery colours
13. Malev – Hungary – final colours
14. CSA – Czech – delivery colours
15. CSA – Czech- final colours
16. Hang Kong Vietnam
17. Vietnam Airlines
18. Syrianair
19. Aviogenex – Yugoslavia
20. Latavia – Latvia
21. Belavia – Belarus
22. Estonian Air
23. Air Moldova
24. Air Koryo – North Korea

Wow!

Just seen this news. For me, this is the most exciting news in 1/400 for some time. Others obviously have other views and I respect them of course.

I will certainly be ordering several of these as they are released.

Not sure NG Models will be producing a 134 now (as they stated they were doing this year sometime).

Cool Re: Tu-134!!

There are lots of good airline schemes for this aircraft which should sell well.
Here's a small sample example, just of Soviet Aeroflot colors.

1967 delivery colors

Early 70's unified scheme trials, which Panda is doing first! Don't forget the Aeroflot logo under the cheatline Panda!

Another competitor in the unified scheme trials. Fin flash and fin tip fairing are the same medium blue as cheatline.

The winner. The 1973 unified 'Billboard' scheme.

1980 Olympic titles on 'Billboard' scheme.

Leased to Malev around 1980-ish.

The new 1990's scheme. The end of the Soviet Union meant this was never widely adopted across the Aeroflot fleet. Pity, it's rather snazzy IMHO.

I'm not sure but I think I've also seen a Soviet era Aeroflot Polar Division livery on a 134 as well. Can't find a photo as yet though.

Tip of the iceberg!

Dave - we have to be careful which variant we wish for as the later Tu-134A had a solid nose. The Panda version is clearly the original 'classic; version with the navigator's transparent nose, so we might not get Avioenex, Air Koryo or certainly any of those posted with radar nose mods and other protuberences!

That's not true Adrian. The TU-134A had both glazed and solid nose versions. The difference between the TU-134 sans suffix and the TU-134A was a fuselage stretch

The Groza navigation/weather radar in the 'solid' nose was developed during the late 70's for the 'B' series but was able to be a retrofitted, and many earlier 'A' series aircraft were converted starting in the 80's.

All we know at this point is Panda is working on a mould that features the glazed navigators position and chin navigation radar. Tellingly they have not yet displayed a fuselage casting, so who can say if they will not provide both?

I expect that the original short fuselage version is unlikely to appear though.

But it would be pretty simple to release the shortbody aswell. You just have to shorten the A's fuselage.

Yeah pretty much, also whip off the APU exhaust at the end of the fuse and eliminate the reverse thrust cascades on the engines and you'd have it.

Not sure how many liveries the original short 134 could be released in though.

Admittedly, the temptation to have a model of an airliner that relies on a braking parachute for shortening the landing roll is hard to resist!

I'm not sure it is that simple in practice. New fuselage and engines it sounds like.

On the parachute front early Caravelles used parachutes for breaking. I've seen photos of Air France examples using them to land at Berlin Tegel in the early 60s. AC have made that model.

Definitely new fuselage. The engines are likely just a printing change. In any case I agree with you. An extra fuselage is a non-trivial task. I'd wager if Panda are going to do more than one version it is likely to be the glazed nose A vs the radar nose A-2/3 refits and B.

I believe the Ty-104 also had a braking chute fitted. So I've actually already got one. (Pity nothing more has been heard of the 104 mould.) Still, I'll have to keep an eye out for an Air France Caravelle, thanks!

Indeed, but my point is it would mean a different fuselage mould, which Panda haven't revealed.

Much appreciated. I hope finally there'll be an Aviogenex model (still not in 1/200, but hey - maybe others learn from thiss)….
Maybe NG will come up with a Tu134 in 1/200.... there might be great times ahead…..

I'd probably get one or two of these at most, to represent the type in my collection. My own preference is for the classic 70's-80's Aeroflot livery.
