Default British Roses Pt1: Full-length Speedbird Tristars

Way back in February 2015 one of my first articles was on the topic of BA's Tristars. Back then I had to use the Blue Box effort for the model aspect but now of course NG Models have seen fit to grace us with an excellent trio of BA Tristar 1s and 200s. So I have rewritten the entire piece to provide a much lengthened and updated history of the BA standard length L-1011s. Check it out here:

https://www.yesterdaysairlines.com/a...dbird-tristars

Part 2 will feature the Tristar 500s once NG has made them all of course! There'll also be a part on the history of British Airtours at some point as well.

Did they ever make a -1 or -100 with the big British title?

These are almost new. NG haven't made one yet

The recent Gemini Jets release is exactly that, but alas with the annoyingly too short landing gear.

Great article! It would be nice to see NG produce a BA Negus TriStar -50 variant in both “British airways” & “British” titles, in the G-BEAK - G-BEAM range, to build up the fleet even further...

Yes a good read again Rich, I too have some of the reference materials quoted and Mr Birtles book in particular is a great source of all things 'Tristar'. I was so glad to be able to replace the somewhat lack-lustre Blue Box Negus Tristars, the Landor was a bit better but not a patch on these NG releases. I'm also looking forward to the 500's coming out in British Airways, British and British Airtours liveries. As has been mentioned before, there's scope to do the Eastern lease edition and also the 'prototype' 500 G-BFCA in it's Lockheed US test reg too. The first two 500's were retained for a while, by the company for test purposes, making G-BFCC the first delivered to BA ? They didn't last long of course, eventually being sold on to the RAF to alleviate some of BA's debt. It would be nice of course to see an RAF edition or two, especially the one that retained base BA livery with RAF roundels and markings applied over the top.

Yeah I was glad to get rid of those BBX versions as well. Could never count them as part of my collection proper. More brilliant suggestions above. I’ll be drowning in an absolute sea of BA Red Tails if this continues, things are already getting out of control as it is 🤪

A Waylon Jennings song comes to mind (for anyone out there that loves Country music of this era), just changing one word in it to suit: “Don’t You Think This Collectin’ Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand” ...diddly diddly diddly 🎸🎶😂
