Gemini 1/400 Convair 580 wishlist

After the first release on Gemini's 1/400 Convair 580 mould in Allegheny colours, there were calls for more of these lovely retro propliners and Gemini responded with North Central and now Republic. PLEASE Gemini, put some more weight in the nose to stop them being tail-sitters? As for future releases, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would buy these.

American Eagle; Frontier early and late colours; DHL and a nice Canadian Armed Forces CC-109 for military collectors. How about it Gemini? Anyone any others?

I agree. I already covered this in some detail last July. I'm sure my good friends at Gemini will oblige us:

Absolutely. Would love to see more 580’s. RStretton had one of these exact 580 wishlist threads some months back. The only one I’d personally add to your above list, from the other thread, is United Express.

I’ve noticed a trend, that the 1:400 CV580 releases are lockstep with their 1:200 predecessors, livery and registration wise. Which would lead me to believe that if GJ hasn’t made it in 1:200 yet, it’s probably unlikely they’ll make it in 1:400.

FAA
1:200 N49
1:400 N49

Allegheny
1:200 N5816
1:400 N5816

North Central
1:200 N2041
1:400 N2041

Republic
1:200 N2728R
1:400 N2728R

So, wild guess... if it’s already been done in 1:200, it has a way greater chance of eventually happening in 1:400. Frontier, Aspen, United Express, Continental, Northwest, etc.

Here's another one that would be nice;

Attachment 333156

GJ200 just released a NW CV580, but i'm not interested in it as NW only operated briefly after acquiring from Republic. i've been trying to get my hands on a GJ200 Frontier Bow & Arrow, but they are really hard to find and i doubt GJs will ever do a rerun.

Still in scheduled service in 2020!

Perhaps Gemini could do a deal with the airline for some souvenir models as these won't last in service for many more years. IIRC they have already taken delivery of their first ATR-72-500.

Adrian,

I don't care about the balancing problem as much as I care for these releases. With my recent North Central purchase, I merely used a tiny dab of Hold the Foam Glue under the front tire to keep the model from sitting on its tail. I've used this product for years on 1:400 and 1:200 projects. It cleans up easily from plastic surfaces such as landing gear or Preiser figures.

Clever solution, I’ll have to try it. That said, I do agree with Adrian. Elimination of the tail-tip problem, altogether, would be preferred.

On the subject, what are some of the worst offenders of the tail-tip?? Offhand, I know GJ BAe-146’s usually don’t take much more than a slight bump to the surface they’re sitting on, to tail-tip. Any others?

The Gemini BAE 146s are bad. The JC Wings / Gemini Shorts 360 is another perennial tailsitter. The Aeroclassics Constellations (both standard and Supers) easily tail sit as well. Also the Gemini / JC Wings HS 748.

Some AC 1/400 connies and i do have a GJ200 Aspen Airways CV580 that easily tips if disturbed. but this issue doesn't bother me all that much.

A couple of Convair 580's I'd like to see:

--Republic Mary Tyler Moore. Sorry for poor picture quality. N4822C is a sample reg.

--Air Ontario. They had a number of liveries, I'd pick this one.

Republic’s Mary Tyler Moore would be cool to see in 1/400.

I hope the Frontier 'bow & arrow' 580 doesn't show up. That livery was designed in-house by a Frontier line mechanic, and for me, it is the best of the best classic '60s cheat-line scheme (conversely, the Saul Bass maroon/red/orange job is a typical '70s nightmare). If that bow & arrow model shows up, I fall into the 'collect em all' mode: the 727 was recently released by AeroClassics, but the 737 is a bear to find. Doug

Bump! Meanwhile two years later and Gemini have announced that very schemed Frontier Cv.580, so here you go, this thread is working as it's one of my 'top to do' at the head of this thread. Now GJ, please make the others ...but not two years later?

My worst 2 offenders on tail dragging are both Gemini.. an early Continental 737-800 N12216 and an early Southwest 737-500 N504SW. I've had to literally make a tailstand for them...I do my best to keep it hidden from view ...because otherwise they will NOT sit properly... I may try this "hold the foam" stuff. sounds like a good option.
