Default Diesel Nine Desires: A DC-9-30 Wishlist

This month's wishlist features the DC-9-30, which although covered quite well still easily has over 50 models that are more than deserving of gracing the Aeroclassics mould.

Here's my top 53:

Hi.

Can't complain about SAS DC-9 releases over the years. Reading your article I checked my display cabinet and found I have a few DC-9 from SAS (and MD80-90 as well) and one Delta and one Continental. One of the SAS is a -30 version and Delta and Continental are - 30 versions.

Hi,

On my wishlist is a model of a DC-9-21, only 10 aircrafts were built as I know but these were operated by some more airlines than only by SAS.

A DC-9-30 I'd very much like to see: Midwest Express 1980's livery.

Very obscure liveries, Richard. I don’t know if they’d be commercially viable, ie able to sell 120+ pieces.

Sunworld operated N731L and N741L, both DC-9-31’s as well as many other DC-9’s and a pair of BAe-146’s

Aero Lloyd, Aero Lloyd, Aero Lloyd!!!

The ATI DC-9 was also released as a club model but just like the (Inex) Adria should also be re-released IMHO.

I tend to agree there's a lot of obscure ones in that list.... but i'd certainly be interested in the mid 90's Adria (billboard titles), and the Aero Lloyd.

I've seen quite a few of the Hangar release Adria DC-9's on ebay the last few years....but the ATI one is a hard find for sure.

I finally managed to get hold of the Hangar Club Adria myself (missing the club card unfortunately) - but note that the titles on that release just say 'Adria Airways' not 'Inex-Adria Airways.' So Inex-Adria has not actually been made at all yet.

I used to take the Avensa DC 9 from Caracas to Anaco, Venezuela when visiting my grandparents on my mothers side. Didn't AC release this some time ago?

For what it's worth, on that list this American 70's-present Regulation-Deregulation fan would be especially interested in American International Airways, Legend, Northwest and Republic hybrids, Republic Mary Tyler Moore, USAirways Shuttle.

I like my existing AirTran and Allegheny, but would get those if AC did them.

I'd like to see an Alitalia DC9. Keep looking for them on ebay but never managed to find one. Iberia would be nice too.
I have only started collecting 1/400 scale so these may already be available without me knowing (been collecting 1/500 for about 30yrs)

Welcome to 1:400 - those have indeed both been made, in several liveries. You can find out what exists and what doesn't at diecastmodelaircraft.com (usually referred to here as DiMA). Here's the link to the Iberia DC-9's:

Good point, that's true.... My Adria Dc-9 also had no HC card....

Yeah - the 'screw-belly' DC-9-10. A homely duck, but everyone should have at least one in their collection, if only for a historical mould perspective. This AeroClassics generation one mould must have been one of A/C's early contributions, and I have always wondered just where it fit chronologically.

Yes a good example of how 1:400 tooling has evolved in the past 21 years. I also have an Aer Lingus BAC 1-11 of similar design. Gemini Jets eventually produced the same release on a modern mould, would love that BMA DC-9 to receive a similar upgrade.

SMA made a 3-pack of Northwest DC9's, back in the day. But, it would be nice to eventually see an AC release for all 3 variants; 30, 40, and 50.

The aircraft I want the most from that list, by far, is the Binter Canarias DC-9. They were leased from Iberia from 1989 to around 2000 (records are hard to find), as Binter was originally a subsidiary of Iberia, to allow them to focus on mainline services rather than Inter-Canarias ones. We had a second Binter (Mediterranéo) to connect Spain like Air Nostrum does now.

Please, does anybody have Binter Canarias items for sale? I would be extremely grateful, especially for the ATR (72-500) in the livery worn from 2004 until 2008, or the one worn from 1990 until 2003 with a front passenger door (72-201).

Astra, I can't quote your signature, but the only Binter Canarias models ever made have been 2 old Schabaks and one 1:200 737 by Herpa, unless there's something missing from the database. So far the only option for your ATR would be a custom it seems.

https://www.diecastmodelaircraft.com...inter+Canarias

Back on the DC-9 topic - I'd pick up quite a few from Rich's wishlist since there's a lot of airlines I don't have an example of, but in particular, I'd like to replace the old screw-belly British Midland DC-9-10 in the old colors. The Legend, Midwest Express, Aviaco, Binter, and Caribair would certainly come my way.
