Default "pre-announced" models

I was just looking through my collection notes. I ordered a JC Wings Etihad B-787 Formula One model in November 2018.

I see that it is still listed for sale. Is it ever going to be released?

What other models are on such long lead times?

Quite honestly the only option is to never pre-order any JC Wings models unless you can order and pay on release. Same with Herpa in my opinion. Crazy to expect payment for a model that doesn't get made for months if not over a year!

good point, most reputable dealers if not all never charge for a preorder. I know of two that do, and one of them should you cancel charges a whopping 25% penalty.. all for doing absolutely nothing. I learned the hard way and would never prepay for a pre announced model again.

That is why when I announce the JC releases the ones in red are 30 days out or less and the rest are who knows?

I agree...only pre-ordered a model once...never again unless it is a "no pay until you play" retailer (til the plane is instock and ready to ship)!

All this pre-orders BS and pre-announcements are just a scam. Why can't a manufacturer just make a model, ship it out, announce it in transit, and let the sales begin?

Oh wait, there is one manufacturer who works this way!!

Yep...well said! This is how it should be! If someone needs a plane that bad in their collection, like you have said in the past, they need to get a life! Also if it is something that sells out, it will always show up on the secondary market at a reasonable price!

I think how NG does it is best.

1. Preannounce models with reg#s

2. Show box artwork so collectors can point out any obvious errors

3. Show photos of models so collectors can react positively and negatively before full production.

4. Take action to correct any errors collectors point out that are deemed by the manufacturer that are worth the effort to correct (i.e. British titles without the dot on the letter i, or Speedbird logo missing from Negus 757. etc.)

Better approach than produce and ship models and then hope nobody discovers anything after it's already too late.

Gemini announcements are made only when they receive the shipping manifest and the models are on the way.

It’s rather about retailers’ policy, not manufacturers’, right?

My best advice: never put any pre-orders with retailers who charge you a partial or even the full amount prior to the moment the model is shipped from them to you. Just that.

I agree 100%. It is however, the manufacturers who are also guilty by pre-announcing things they haven't even made yet. That's just wrong for a manufacturer or retailer to "finance" their operations with your money. If they can't afford to take any risk, they shouldn't be in business!! .Period

I remember waiting over a year for the JCw's Cargolux 747-8F 'cutaway'. I preordered and prepaid for it also. That timeframe was ridiculous!

Well, I am not 100% d'accord here. To my mind, any manufacturer can announce what he wants - the market will respond. If a certain manufacturer does not fulfill his announcements frequently, he won't get any pre-orders. If it always takes him six or twelve months - or even more - to fulfill the announcements, customers will get mad and pre-orders will decrease too.

In the end, I guess the collectors market appreciates pre-announcements and the chance to pre-order things. What the market does not appreciate is retailers charging credit cards for orders they haven't fulfilled yet. This particularly goes for items which are on pre-order only. I for one would never ever buy from a retailer who wants my money before he has packed and shipped the desired items.
