Mainline FLUFs: United Boeing 737-222s

United had a major hand in the eventual success of the Boeing 737 as without their support it is likely it would have been cancelled before 1970. As it is the series 200 had a long career with United and wore at least 5 different liveries. Here's a tribute to the type in UA service:

Great article, Richard, and you're on your own with Jon Champs exit. Can't help but think that Boeing should have quit with the 737NGs, the MAXs being one step too far, and I'm sure many at Boeing now realize that. And seems to me that the 757 was more amenable to re-engining and design tweaks that would have kept it in the game. The 737 rates as one of the great designs, and along with it's slow start, is experiencing a slow and agonizing death. Doug

Yeah I saw that. We didn't always agree, and I thought he was rather fixated on colours and engine rims, but his reviews were good and he'll be missed.

Did the United 737-200 ever wear the Battleship livery? I don't recollect ever seeing one.

Yes, the 737-200 did wear battleship colors, as I flew on N9069U shortly before it’s retirement in that scheme . ToddCB
