Default Aircraft Model Store

Has anyone had dealings with this supplier?
If so, are they reputable and reliable?
I'm growing concerned as I placed an order for three models that were advertised as 'available', just to be told they didn't have two of the models in stock? They mentioned that these were on their way and that they'd let me know as soon as they get them in and dispatched.
It's been over two weeks now...and these models on the selling front ( NG) aren't exactly hanging about!!
Any thoughts guys? Should I pull the plug or should I wait and be patient?

Have bought from them a couple of times, reputable company, just always found them to be expensive, so only ever went there when I couldn't find the model anywhere else

Same happened to me last month with a NG L-1011. Fortunately they were quick and sent me the model one week after my complaining that the model shouldn´t appear as available when it´s not.
But the response was quick ( and laconic ) and at the end everything was fine, so don´t worry too much. But makes me wonder if its a good practice to sell this way.

I ordered a model from them but they sent the wrong one which I had to return at my own expense before they sent the correct one. As it was their error I would have thought they should have refunded my postage, but no such luck.

Yeah a bit concerning!

It's the first time I've ordered through them as they are advertised as an official NG retailer! I haven't had much luck with UK retailers on the NG front if I'm honest so thought this was the best way to go!

I can recommend them. The ng models take awhile to come in but they also offer rewards and a membership for 10% off everything on any order and if you place multiple orders per year, you soon get your money back.

Okay cool, I'll wait it out then!
Just paranoid that they turn around and say they can't get the stock they expected in! Especially considering one of the models is a Sept release and looking at some retailers that have them, their stocks are dwindling..and quickly!

I would just wait since you are this far into it. May want to find another supplier for future orders if it bothers you.

I ordered from them recently - 3 NG TriStars. They sold out of the Delta L1011-500, shipped the TWA one and the Air Canada is expected in a couple of weeks. Seems hit and miss at best.

Yeah will do. Who do u recommend? Any good NG suppliers? I used to deal with ARD a lot for the majority of my model collecting, but tbh, finding ARD seriously expensive these days, or is it just me?

I don't know as I have only bought a few from UK as I am in the US. I was going to say ARD, but as you mention the prices are up. Whatever happened to Airspotters? What about Buygoneworldlimited, though I know Crownvic had a bad experience. Moons maybe? You may try sellers from Hong Kong as I have gotten planes cheaper and faster than I can sometimes from sellers in the US where I live!

Maybe some other UK collectors will chime in to provide some leads!

Since you're in the UK, well worth looking at moons-mo on ebay or demographer_x. He's based in Hong Kong, but I've bought a lot of models from him over the years and he always packs them well, always combines postage and never get caught on customs. Usually takes a week at most for them to arrive.

I highly recommend Benedict at Demographer. Have bought plenty from him over the years and never a problem.

It appears they have had their issues from time to time, but they do respond and they do follow up... which to me shows they care..

Moons I used to buy from and were really good, but suddenly when it came to the Sept releases, they came to a complete stop and obviously I didn't want to hang around waiting for them to get new NG stock in. I assumed they had issues of some kind, but that was purely just an assumption. However it didn't add up!
I might try demographer as everyone seems to be impressed with his service.
Cheers for the info guys!!

I use Demographer X for most if not all of my NG purchases , and other stuff too. As said above, 7-10 days turnaround time, very well packaged and no customs charges so far.

I have a feeling any supply issues being experienced by UK retailers may improve now that Lily is back on the job.

Agree with above posters - 'Demographer' in Hong Kong and Moons Mail Order in UK are both reliable sellers on E. Bay. I have bought from Aircraft Model Store and service is reliable, but they are expensive and also shipping is slow, as apparently they have to get their stock from a German supplier after you order it.

I've used them a few times - ran into QA problems with a Phoenix A330 and they were really good to deal with.

Just wait it out. I ordered a DC-9 from them that took 4 weeks to get delivered to me (I live in the USA). I emailed them after 2 weeks and they also told me they were "waiting for the supplier to deliver it to them", then sent me a notification a week later that it had been shipped to my address.

I would only purchase from them again if they have a model I really want that nobody else has, as their process appears to be pretty slow.

They have to get their stock from a German Supplier??? Wtf??!!!
If they are a designated NG retailer, then surely they shouldn't have to rely on a supplier in Germany to get their stock?? This baffles the s*** outta me??!!

Me to, but maybe it is only Aeroclassics models, as those are the only ones I bought from them?

Pretty sure this only applies to their extensive Herpa selection.

I initially thought the same however their prices seem to be quite competitive for some of the NG models.
I have started dealing with them this year and they seem pretty reputable. Reply to emails very quickly and communication is excellent.
The only gripe I have is models showing as either ‘pre-order’ or ‘add to cart’. When the latest releases no longer say ‘pre-order’, I wrongly assumed they were in stock only to be waiting several months for models to be shipped. I would suggest they be more up front with customers and ensure website listings are more transparent regarding availability.

At the risk of crossing threads, I've been in touch with AMS today about the NG fuselage error on their new BA Tristars and they're going to check they're correct before sending out - which is excellent.

However, they're not going out for 10 days yet, so I guess they either deliberately plan to avoid being the earliest adopters, or they're some way down the distribution list.

Would ARD be a good option? Some hard to find ng model 787s are there, though a lot of models that have been released months ago are marked as pre orders and their prices do seem expensive. Should I pass?

I’ve bought from them before when I couldn’t find it here. Their shipping to the USA is reasonable and without VAT their prices are not bad

Ben and Igor have never let me down! Always have delivered so far! Cheaper than most Uk sellers! I have to go to them now as Airspotters do not do NG any more? AMS were alot cheaper than Airspotters and i think thats what put the nail in the coffin for them over NG!

Have AirSpotters explained why they have stopped NG? I'm used to them putting pre-orders up but haven't seen any of the new stuff over the past month or two mentioned on their site.

Zangoose I can vouch for Airspotters.com ! I have used them quite alot and been quite loyal actually as i could have got stuff elsewhere alot cheaper in some cases!

The reason i split my orders is of split loyalty and who do what etc. They stopped doing NG as of a disagreement over direct buying or through their supply chain! ££ They are very concious of profit margins and if they feel its not worth their time, they abort! Also i was told they had to buy from AMS quite often and then stick their price on that & that was more by about £5 generally and AMS always undercutting them on price ,i suppose its was just not worth their time unless they can get a better direct deal shipment from NG so they can compete at a better price as everyone just goes to AMS or ARD as cheaper!

Airspotters are generally more expensive than everyone else but if you care about the odd few quid or its a case of " having too",well you have AMS and Flying-Tigers and the like but if you want guarantee for sure when your order ,you get it and shipped in high standard packaging to protect the fragile shipment, then a few quid here or there you can ignore!

I have ordered with them & AMS as a force of habit and they both deliver and send their models in good packaging! You can trust them and they are happy to refund or negotiate in situations! Basically if your order with them you can trust them and you get what you asked for! You can get it cheaper in the EU but then add on the P&P and 'Bank currency transfer rate' too!Works out the same or more but if you have to look else where to the EU or America as some stuff does not come this way, thats the way it is! Look forward to those import and handling charges, from America its insane ,AVOID if you order big!

Airspotters did say to me they are re=considering NG as of the popularity of the brand? Maybe they will negotiate a new deal thats more accomadating for them as they must realize they are loosing lots of potential orders to their opposition i would have guessed??

Regards.

Hi Garry,

Thanks for the reply. I have used AirSpotters before and have had pretty good experience with them. I also liked the option of putting a pre-order in but not sending the money straight away until it was ready to be shipped. I'm not aware of any other UK site doing that? Shame about their disagreement with NG but it won't stop me from using them for other brands.

Thanks again for letting me know of the situation.

Yes, Probably due to the competition, they told us that they had to temporarily stop carrying new NG stuffs. We respect their decision. We do hope retailers can benefit from selling NG products.
