Default 747sp from NG?!

Was just taking a look on Instagram and Facebook and NG posted a picture of the 747SP in House Colors asking for “more pictures”. Could this be the start of the long awaited 747 family? I think so... has anyone else seen this?

I might start by reaching out to the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Also, I'm willing to bet that Boeing's got a few pics stashed away somewhere.

It didn't take much searching to find a few pics:

Inflight has previously released this in 1/200 as IF2747SP0515:

I can confirm that NG are making a 747SP. They do have a funny way of announcing things.

Oh great, more flooding the market with stuff that's already been done. QUICK!! Get your GJ SPs onto eBay while prices are still decent and before more people figure out what's going on!!

Nope, I don't own any SPs. Never had any interest in them. Just the small opinion and rant of someone who has been collecting for 13+ years and still waiting for a C-141B.

I think 747sp Will sell better than C141.
I Also think that a thread about a future 747 release is hardly the appropriate place to post a rant about a C141, my 2 cents.

To be fair, I think the point was that there is still plenty of new ground out there for manufacturers to cover. That said, the classic airframes will always be the best money makers. 747s, Spitfires, SR-71s, Concordes, Tomcats, etc. As much as we'd all love to see more of the off the beaten path aircraft, I want the manufacturers to remain profitable so that they keep putting out cool stuff and taking chances on the occasional rarity.

The 747SP is an excellent choice by NG. It has never been replicated decently in 1/400 (GJ and Herpa's moulds leave a lot to be desired). And the 747 line will become a best-seller (just look what the BB models fetch on eBay).

NG Models aren't flooding the market, their contribution is highly appreciated.

Excellent news and another very exciting development from NG. Looking forward to seeing a definitive rendering of this 'ugly duckling' in 1:400; love it or hate it, the B.747-SP has a very distinctive character about it and deserves a more contemporary, updated tooling. I for one am a lover of the type and look forward to adding new examples to my collection.

A very excellent, exciting development. Good for NG. I for one will be very eager to buy 747SP's from them. Classic airframes that were widely used are likely to be sellers. The few 747SP's wore a lot of liveries, including classic national and trunk carriers--over their lifetimes.

The house colors is a good one to do. DiMA does not show a house-colors 747SP having been done in 1:400.

I did not expect this! I was never crazy about the airframe, but do have two or three sitting around somewhere. Having said that, I think the Air Namibia in the old livery would be a welcome addition and release that would sell very well imo.

WOW, sorry to ruin your morning!

Request to Moderator: I've made the heinous action of mentioning something I would rather have than what is being planned in response to this news about a new model being made. Indeed, hardly appropriate. Please delete my post or feel free to clean my post with "This is fantastic news!! I can't wait to get my hands on NG 747SPs. It's AMAZING how NG knows what EVERYONE wants!!"

I agree! And likewise - how I miss those days spent on the LHR viewing terraces above T2, watched a good few SP's come and go during that time. All gone now of course...and much lamented. The magic of this 1:400 world keeps it all alive, and I'm very grateful for NG's contribution to it

I'd anticipate NG will manage decent pylons and engines attached at the right angles, something GJ consistently find beyond them.

Strange point of view. I am never getting tired of improved moulds. NG Models offers a promise - really definite moulds and outstanding detail and accuracy. Therefore, I am excitedly waiting for their new 747SP.

This is fantastic news. Really looking forward to what undoubtedly will be another top notch mould. Am curious to see how they design the pylons and look forward to no more cradle mount for the wings. Lots of various color schemes to be done and redone. This should be a very profitable mould for them. Can’t wait....ToddCB

Remarkable how many livery options there are for this aircraft, for a total of only 45 actually built. I'll be excited to see what the first releases are - presumably the prototype house colors being the first - I wonder what will be the first airline livery release(s).

Snap!! I did mention all these liveries in a thread a while back, whilst everyone was deliberating the justification of making a new SP mould!

I'd buy any of these in a heartbeat (although owning most of them on other moulds):

Luxair (never done!!!)
SAA (white belly)
Pan Am (Billboard)
United Airlines (Saul Bass bold titles)
United Airlines (Pan Am Billboard hybrid)
United Airlines (Battleship Grey)
Qantas (1990s)
TWA (twin stripe)

Curious decision. I’d buy a few.

United 747SP would be on the top of my list! More specifically the saul bass colors and battleship colors, though i wonder if NG are also making the classic series.

Judged from the previous releases i would say we could expect every single livery or hybrid in which the SP ever was painted.

Even tho it would require a bit of tweaking from a standard 747SP mould, NASA's SOFIA flying observatory would be an instant buy for me.
