Looks like the old BB400 mould! An ANZ 744 leased to Cathay Pacific 1989-1991 in hybrid c/s...interesting release subject, this new brand name reflects Hong Kong nostalgia, I like the cool packaging.

Yes, they did very good job in the box. Showing the landing scenario above the Kowloon city.

There is something wrong with the leading edge of the wing.

The wings and engines look more like Gemini than BigBird400 to me. Gemini 747 engines are far inferior to the older BigBird releases.

Actually, looking again I think you could be right. The wing-to-pylon joints look funky as well, I know that is another issue on the GJ 744 mould.

Definitely GJ mould. It has the distinctive engine pylon. Nice release by the way. I guess you guys should think about releasing B-HUK silver bullet. Nobody ever done that one before.

Arrrrgh!! What is that Gemini 744 mould with its absurd child's-toy pylon-to-wing front joints being used for?

Gemini has a relationship with JC. Doesn't he own the BB400 744 moulds? And Witty?? Why are those moulds not being used?

Either fix that frigging Gemini 744 mould or junk it!

Jim

Honestly though. The cradle mount to the fuselage does not bother me nearly as much as the pylon to engine join. If they could redesign that wing, the mould is still decent. There is a gaping hole for 747s in my collection...

Yes, the mould is otherwise decent. I definitely want to see 747's. I just get tired of such a glaring flaw not being corrected on a mould that's being used in 2019. That's sloppiness on the part of the mould owner.

There's no fixing it without replacing the entire wing and by that point you might as well make a new mould altogether, which JC have been doing for an admittedly interminable amount of time.

The mould isn't perfect but for me it's still a 7.

7 after a few drinks maybe I am wondering when we will finally see this new JC tooling. I remember seeing pre-production photos back in, was it 2018?

Yeah it was. On the mould scoring I tend to knock a point off for each defect of any size. Hence for this mould it looses 1 for the engine join, 1 for the cradle mount and 1 for the general shape of the nose. I think knocking off large numbers of points is unfair and overall this is a decent mould, especially considering its advanced age. It is certainly much better than the Phoenix mould.

And JC don't own the Big Bird/Witty moulds they just reside in their factory as far as I understand it.

This model has been released twice before in 2004 by Net Models (with too thin cheatline) and in 2007 by Magic Models. I had one of them but sold it when I got a real 'VR-' reg one as I dislike hybrids.
