Default Did the boat miss the UK?

Is it just me not paying enough attention to releases or did the Phoenix releases that were announced for release in August never arrive with UK sellers?

I've currently got a month old pre-order for the KLM 787-10 100 Years awaiting fulfilment, marked as due in August.

Meanwhile eBay postings for the same model in the US and EU have been up since around the 9th and 12th of August.

I'm still waiting for my per-ordered Amazon Prime 767 via Aircraft Model Store ( from UK ) - they are saying that supply problem is a reason for delay and it will take another few weeks or months till next batch will be produced. I don't believe in that - once models are gone they are gone...

At least it's not just me then. I suppose it's just a waiting game, at least the transaction for mine is still pending and not in the sellers bank account.

That's why I was pretty pissed when the NG Delta Tristar didn't arrive at any of the retailers I use. Luckily I sourced one through a retailer on the Continent. Bit bizarre if you ask me,with no credible explanation!

Hmmm.... If im not mistaken, the 787 100th by Pheonix arrived early at one of my retailers. I've had that model for a while now. I usually don't preorder, and buy models from who got their hands on it first. All NG Models come to my Canadian retailers 1 month after being released. Which is why I'd usually order from Waffle or EzToys and own the models a month before my retailers even receive theirs... Perhaps it was a logistical issue?

Like many collectors, I’m starting to try and avoid pre-ordering models. However I have found some UK retailers announcing they have models in stock on their websites only to be later told they are still waiting for the delivery?
I assume it’s to get the orders in before rival distributors?

Oh my. Sounds like Aviation Retail Direct. If they have it in stock and ship it, no email, no tracking number, nothing.

I recently ordered a United 757-200 1:200 Battleship (Made in 2016, Long sold out) because they said they had "one in stock"

I ordered it only to be told I would have to wait a month because they "ordered" it knowing full well theres no inventory left. Thankfully my PP wasn't charged and I will be preventing further dealings with ARD...

Oh dear. I wasn't going to name the retailer but it is in fact ARD I have my preorder with. They seem to have had other Phoenix releases fron the same month but not the KLM. I'll give them a little more time and may sadly have to try and source it elsewhere at a premium due to postage.

I'm still waiting for my NG Delta and LTU Tristars to arrive in the UK.

Would be fascinated to know from NG themselves WTF is going on when other's have had theirs for weeks!

I don't want to sound rather rude but the customs in the UK is so awful. Packages leaving and arriving in the UK seem to love taking naps for a couple weeks before waking up at your doorstep. Royail Mail has to be one of the worst postal carriers I've seen to date. The only good them about them is that they reply on Twitter when you show them literal proof of their employees breaking rules. Canada Post just stops replying. I hope you receive your models soon. I've already received this month's release (with the Dart vader, eastern, US Airways, etc) I've already had the NG Delta and LTU for ages

It's unfortunate the UK collectors have such limited purchasing options. The handful of retailers - namely ARD - sound like a total dumpster fire. Even to purchase internationally, someone did the math in one of the other threads. It's not at all feasible to buy from US retailers, even in volume.

Someone needs to open up a shop to compete with ARD. Force them to evolve and improve, or go extinct.

Afaik Customs in the UK, in fact most countries, only get involved with incoming mail. And with mail, not all packages get customs checked. I've had packages arrive, when I had a UK address and now I live in Ireland, from overseas suppliers and get delivered with no charge. It seems it's the luck of the draw.

The availability and the promotion of 1/400 models in Europe leaves a lot to be desired. If I collected 1/500 models I could simply walk into a local toy shop and buy a Herpa model.

I'll stand up for ARD here. They're a fantastic retailer, been buying from them for decades and there's little they can do if the models are held up at customs.

Agree with Grizz - I've only positive experience at ARD, the guys at the Heathrow shop are a pleasure to deal with - make sure you pay always by Paypal - they only then re-apply for Paypal payment when the product has arrived in store. And sure, sometimes the stock shows up late.....but that's not under their control.

I agree with both. as Matt 'Transpac' has no direct dealings with ARD, how can he criticise based on one other post? ARD have given me fantastic service for years. Usually I go to their store and am greeted by a friendly team and a coffee. When models are pre-ordered, I get an e.mail confirming the order then another saying they are in and ready for collection or for posting. If they post them, they are well packed and postage is charged at the basic rate. Excellent service!

Obviously a few people will have a positive experience, otherwise they wouldn’t exist at all. That said, it sounds like save for a handful few, they aren’t the customer choice. Not by far. They only exist because UK customers have no choice.

There are countless examples on the boards here of them not fulfilling orders, promising restocks thar never arrived, or otherwise screwing their customers.

That's cobblers, there's plenty of choice online in the UK and at the moment buying from Europe and Hong Kong is just as viable if you order a couple of models to save on postage. You've got ARD, AMS, Airspotters Planestore, Flying Tigers. Moons-mo and several others on ebay. Christ even Hamleys stock GJ if you want to view them in the flesh.
