Default A Box from Bob

Despite the odd ups and downs the 1:400 community is in general full of good people and it is a pleasure to be able to do business with people to acquire models. Just this week I have acquired a selection of rare models from a friend in Australia and he has plenty more models for sale too. Click the link to see what I got and how you can get in contact with Bob to see what else he has for sale:

Nice box set you got there! Wish manufacturers would do more interesting box sets like the one you got.

I have those 2 Qantas 707-138B's, which I never saw in the flesh.
Are these highly sought-after?

Probably not more so than a lot of other Aeroclassics models, however Qantas stuff tends to go for higher prices from what I've seen and I haven't seen either of them at a Waffle Collection sale since I've been collecting.

Thanks for that Richard.
I like to display only those I have seen, so even though I like them, they are not always on display.
So probably be prepared to sell.

Nice one Richard - those are lovely models. I’ve just sent Bob an email. Thanks for sharing your source. Curious as to what else he might have available but equally terrified as to how much this might all cost! Got to love this hobby.

Nice haul. I wonder if any of those come from the collection of the late, great Steve K?

I contacted Bob who sent me his list. They are nearly all Australian models, so if anyone is looking for something QANTAS, TAA or Ansett, he may have it.

Hi All,

Over the past coulpe of weeks I have been having problems in receiving and sending emails so my apologies if you have not received a reply to your email.

The problem is with my ISP and at present they are unable to fix it so I have reserected my old business email address which after testing numerous times is working perfectly.

If you have not had a reply from me would you please be kind enough to send me an email at:

[email protected]

And I will send you the list of models I have for sale.

Bob

Richard,

No none of the models I have for sale are from Steve's collection.

Steve's brother Ashley has sold the majority of Steve's collection on Gumtree over the past few years.

My second box of beauties from Bob arrived a few days ago. Another set of classic Australians. One of the Viscounts is interesting as the database only shows it with a white not orange tail:

That would be, IIRC, one of two (three?) samples(?) Andrew had with him when Steve, Bob and I met him as he was passing through Adelaide Airport several years ago. They were the only ones made.

Ah thanks. Interesting. So presumably the Viscounts didn't wear that colour tail with that scheme?

I also like the Qantas Airways DC-4, the one with the 'flying kangaroo', best logo Qantas ever had IMO..

But with Ansett Australia, i never seen the logo with the British Union Jack before..

That Qantas ochre cheatline scheme with the flying 'roo is my favourite too. Looks superb on that DC-4.

AFAIK, the dayglow colours were introduced by TAA after a ground collision incident plus a few near misses in the late 1950's. Sometime during 1960-61 dayglow orange was painted on the wingtips, v.stab and spinners of TAA aircraft without any other changes to the extant schemes. (In the Viscount's case the 50's delivery scheme.) For a variety of reasons this wasn't particularly well received. (Dayglow faded fast and didn't appear to make the hoped for difference to visibility on the ground particularly at some important angles - head on!) By 1963-64 the fleet was undergoing a livery change into 'The Nation's Jetline' colours, dropping the dayglow. However there were at least a couple of odd short lived hybrids (TVJ comes to mind) that wore the new colours with variations on the dayglow v.stab. These were very short lived though and it wasn't the official scheme.

The Ansett flag tail scheme was the 1990-91 successor to the immensely popular 1980's Landor 'Shooting Stars' scheme. It didn't last long, not being particularly well liked compared to the earlier colours. To be fair, the 1970's 'Red Delta' and 1980's 'Shooting Stars' were hard acts to follow! In any case when Ansett started looking at international ops in 1993-94 it was thought that the flag tail scheme, being essentially the Australian flag, might cause problems in certain destinations. Hello Taiwan and the PRC, I'm looking at you! It was therefore replaced by the 'Starmark' colours during 1994 which stayed with Ansett until the end. (Although they were apparently planning on a livery refresh again when it all came crashing down in 2001.)

Managed to secure the Air Niugini A300 and an Aussie Classics TAA 727-200 in early 80’s c/s from Bob today. Having them sent to the Brisbane address so won’t see these models for a bit. Thanks again Richard for sharing the contact info.

If you like the "flying Roo" you may like some of my custom models.

Please excuse the photos I need to take some new ones.

A BigBird400 Virgin Atlantic first-livery 747 was one of my earlier BB / AC 747 acquisitions. I had seen it at EWR in 1986. Glad to see you got one.
