They should definitely just be called August releases, at this point. “July” releases wouldn’t be into retailer hands until September, anyhow. Calling it August releases would let them ‘catch up’ a bit.

Glad to hear! All sounds good to me, I’ve been looking forward to these for a while now. They are definitely something special. Seeing other members receive theirs is making me impatient!

Heres a weird one I'd love to have. TZ-SPA was usually used to transport Pakistani UN peacekeepers to Africa under Askari Aviation.

Another cracking example from one of the final operators!

I saw that one in Lahore the day I did a quick round trip there whilst working in Karachi, just to get a ride on a PIA B747-200 Combi. Outbound also just happened to be my first A310.

Whilst I think the odds of these final operators being produced are low, I would certainly be among the buyers if any limited runs were done.

barison82 07-25-2019 11:27 AM

Received my 2 copies today - absolutely stunning models. True works of art; the detail and accuracy is on another level. Also happy to see that the RB.211 cowling profiles on G-BLUS are correct; looked at them carefully and they is a taper inwards. Although subtle, it is there. Fantastic work NG!

Damn, I wish I coulda seen it. If NG made this I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Back in DC, and my first NG L-1011's have arrived. This is a spectacular mould and model; the mould is definitive for its type. Worth all of the waiting!

NG Models British Airways Landor L-1011-500. Again, the definitive mould for the type. These L-1011's are simply incredible.

Very very nice models, really happy with mine and was going to post pics as well but that would be pretty much redundant at this stage! Nice repair Jag, I hope NG can take care of the QC issues with the glue, it’s an easy enough DIY fix but even so, there’s still plenty of scope for mucking up the model with accidental over-application etc.

I had to glue in a wing on one of my NG Hawaiian L-1011's. I use a pin point to apply glue, which helps avoid 'mucking-up' issues. :)

I wish the NG models were not arriving in so many pieces!! I've had to glue engines and wings on several models after they arrived. I havent had near this problem with the other manufacturers.

Aside from the QC issues, unless there is a side-by-side comparision with a GJ or DW Tristar fuselage, I can't tell whether this NG L1011 fuselage is as bulbous as the Blue Box Tristars.

Steve I did some side to side shots with the sample models. You have nothing to fear this Tristar is near perfect:

I have also had a couple of wings off but no more than from any other manufacturer - in fact a lot less. So far this year I've purchased:
  • 25 NG Models (1 with a wing off)
  • 21 Aeroclassics (2 with a wing off)
  • 6 JC Wings (1 with both wings off)
  • 3 Gemini Jets (1 with a wing off)
  • 2 Panda Models (all wings attached)
  • 1 Phoenix (1 with a wing off)
  • 1 AV400 (all wings attached)

So I think any suggestion that NG is worse than anybody else is not backed up by the stats I have seen. For me Phoenix are still the worst brand for putting a model together, although anecdotally Gemini seem to have some issues and everyone has problems at times.

Indeed - I've had several more Gemini's arrive in kit form lately, which is odd because historically they've been the most ruggedly constructed. Fortunately there's been no paint damage yet, so no harm no foul.

I've had one NG 757 arrive with loose gear but no issues with the L-1011's. Here's G-BLUS nestled in with her Landor counterparts. It appears to me that NG really got the top fuselage color spot on as well, and it's consistent with their 757's. Doesn't show up that well in this photo, but the earlier GJ's and AC's are a little more tan, and the GJ L-1011-1 is a little more bluish-gray.

Handy tip - maybe one day I'll try it myself!

I never use the bottle tip when using superglue on a model. I place some on paper or cardboard and use a fine point to dip into the superglue before applying. Also have a paper towel to wick away excess from the point if needed. Too, dry fit parts before gluing!

jcahea 08-05-2019 08:41 PM

Re: NG Model - 1:400 L1011 Tristar Photographs

Also, on close fitting parts like vertical & horizontal stabs, as well as wings, place the glue in the socket and not on the tab!

I have to say, I think your purchases are rather "biased" and not balanced, giving us the impression you favor one or two manufacturers over others. :D LOL :envy:

Is it just me, or are the landing gear overly too light in color? Almost looks white. Not an L1011 fan so maybe they are supposed to be really light in color. Or maybe it's just the lighting playing tricks again!

Great advice. It's things like this that are learned over time when dealing with such delicate pieces.

I use Elmer's all purpose white glue which is easy to clean up should there be an accident. I also learned over time that a little bit goes a long way!

Elmer's works? I never thought that stuff would work! You're definitely right about it being easier to clean. I'll try it on a 707 that is currently missing an engine....after I get around to digging it out of storage.

Yes, Canopy gives good advice, especially when it comes to clean-ups. Just let the part set for a while; it's A LOT SLOWER to take hold than Super glue.

Re: NG Model - 1:400 L1011 Tristar Photographs

I use Elmer's-type glue myself for most repairs. I let the repaired model sit for at least eight hours, or overnight. I have a set of folded old undershirts I keep on my modeling-work table to use for bracing and holding models at whatever angle is needed for a part not to sag out of position while drying.

That's good advice too! Got a stack of old t-shirts for buffing my car with wax.

Yep brilliant advice guys, thanks a lot for all the input. I think we had a discussion about glue a while back but it's good to be reminded again of all these highly useful tips. Elmer's glue is the stuff I'd prefer to use if I had to do any repairs like this myself.
