Default Pre-ordering models

I was just checking the pre-order list on ACB (Aviation Center Berlin) web site and found that out of 159 models possible to order, JC Wings counted for 102 of them.
Seems they announce and only produce if there are enough pre-orders?

No wonder I have so few JC Wings in my collection.

I often wonder the need to pre-order these models anymore. I have not made an actual pre-order in a few years and haven't missed out on anything I wanted once it became available. I cannot pre-order a model sight unseen, and like to wait to see collectors photos before I decide on something. JC Wings Pre-order approach has baffled me recently.. I definitely think you are correct in that they have a list of potential models to produce, and will produce whichever has the most pre-orders first. I personally just don't understand their tactic with this because I have started to forget JC Wings even existed (Had it not been for the Swissair MD-11, I would have forgotten the name) They followed the path of Inflight, which has always been a headache.

That's an intriguing notion which I hadn't thought about, but I think you're assuming much more coordination between dealers and the manufacturer than is actually there . But it would explain why there were a few pre-orders that I made that have still never been produced. Based on that experience though, I have stopped placing any pre-orders for JC. Several others have said the same thing, so it may be a Catch-22 for them, since there are sales out there that they are giving up by having the reputation for not delivering on what they've announced.

I refuse to pre-order JC Wings models, because months can pass before they come out. Either they get on a regular monthly schedule like others, or I don't pre-order. Simple as that.

I mostly don't pre-order Aeroclassics because of the factory issues that Andrew has discussed here. I wait to see photos. Usually Waffle has photos up quickly after his shipment comes in. I don't know why he doesn't have photos of the June releases yet.

I trust NG and their factory enough to pre-order their models.

Right on! I don't pre-order and hardly buy anything new anymore! I buy low on the second hand market now. These things depreciate for the most part like a new vehicle! Just go to the for sale section on here and look at all the for sale models!

I only pre-order through sites that don't charge my card until my order ships.

Pre-order is a scam. It was started by manufacturers and dealers who wanted to use your nickel to fund their operations. The OP is correct, that if the pre-orders don't meet the MOQ, the model will never be made. Meantime they are holding your money, interest free.

GJ announces their models once they are "on the boat", and start taking orders at that point. AC announces their models once they are all with the dealers, with photos. June was the exception to the rule as some azzh-le saw fit to leak the list to everyone.
Steps have been taken to be sure that doesn't happen again. Those are the only 2 who ethically operate.
All the others will take your money up front, to fund their operations. The fact that the majority of you are "enablers", preempts serious complaint.

Interesting. I may have to rethink my order processes. Thanks.

Nope, won't pre-order again, wanted to cancel my pre-order but the retailer wanted to charge me a restocking fee.

Likewise. I don't pre-order anymore - with anyone. I wait for the physical stock. I don't get into a silly panic anymore over the fear of missing out; life is too short. I just roll with it all now. So grateful that I've got what I already have; time to enjoy the 'now' with the collection. I was also being mislead by certain dealers who were listing models as "in stock" - with photos of said models - where in actuality they were pre-orders; waiting weeks and weeks, sometimes ending up with nothing. I called them out on it. Andrew nailed it in his first sentence: it's a scam. They are using us as a free line of credit!! Glad to hear a manufacturer actually say that.

Also I believe these certain dealers are trying to guarantee orders by taking your cash first, then placing the order, so they are not taking any risk regarding their stock-holding or any possible over-stocks, but masking this as showing models as 'in stock' at the time of purchase. It should be their responsibility to suss-out the supply and demand, stock control etc., and take that risk with their own cash, not ours. I thought that was what being a 'Ltd.' company was all about.

The company I typically use to buy stuff from has an option on pre-orders to pay upon release. So they technically don't get any money upfront until it's about to be released/when to be shipped. I do believe they do ask for deposit if the orders are over a certain amount like £150 or something.

My local retailer, is extremely good about pre-orders. When new models are announced, he emails all his customers with a list of what's up for order. We can use JC as the example. I will call or email the store about what I want. He enters it in the order book, and that's about it. Now we all know JC models can show up next month, or after your next child arrives. (which isn't even planned yet)
No money down. When it arrives, and it's not what you expected, no re-stocking fee. He is still working on the website. So if you are interested in something, email the store, and make it attention Don. Yes, Don is a friend of mine. I am pointing out his store, as ordering can't be any easier then it is with Don.
