Default A Tristar Trio Pt2: NG Models New Tristar 500

Part 2 of my look at the new NG Tristars takes us to the short Tristar 500, a type that has been done serious injustice in 1:400 in the past. Finally someone aside from Dragon Wings have taken a proper look at the short Tristar:

https://www.yesterdaysairlines.com/m...ew-tristar-500

As before most of the photos can be viewed from my FlickR page at greater size.

What NG does is fantastic. I'm really looking forward to their future releases. What mould comes next? 747, 767, ...?

This landing gear in a future mold of a 747 NG will be incredible. Superb model L1011.

Thanks Richard. Very nice. Again the nose, S-duct, wings/extended wingtips/ shorter wing fairings and fuselage are all rendered very nicely. However, the same areas of attention are required with the engines & pylons; ALL the Dash -500s are powered by RB.211-524B and RB.211-524B4 engines, all of which have the shorter exhaust cones (15-degree afterbody). What NG have modelled here are the RB.211-22B engines, fine for the L-1011-1/100s; however, as Doug pointed out in the other thread, they themselves need some tweaking - the front cowls of engines #1 and #3 are wrong ( they should be slanted backward top to bottom on ALL Tristars; NG have got it the wrong way round).

So, NG will have to mould another set of RB.211-524 engines to get this right on the -500s, and on the L-1011-200/250 models.

Also - the pylon fairings were recontoured on the -500s to reduce drag, and strengthened to support the RB.211-524B higher thrust engines; another area for attention!

Otherwise it's an excellent start and is on track for being a highly accurate model. Well done NG!

Yes, the #1 and #3 engine need to be angled down a wee but, but a fantastic looking mold nonetheless. So giddy right now. It'll look great in the widget scheme!

Engine mount gap at wing needs to be tightened up a bit.

Also make the stand out of clear plastic so when displayed with others it is not distracting/detracting from the plane.

Otherwise looks nice!

Ha ha the stand is mine not NGs. It is the larger size variant of the standard Witty stands that can be bought from China. I like them a lot and have about 50 (mainly the smaller ones). They still come with AV400 models actually.

Is NG abandoning doing their own stand with the special non-circular hole?

Both the A330s and L-1011s have standard circular holes. I think the 787s may also.

I just love tri-jets, I am running out of room, seriously.

I asked the wife if I could turn our bedroom into my man cave................I am sure glad I picked the couch.

Extremely good call!!
I have to say that Gemini's last batch ( Martinair being one of them!) were not bad at all in my opinion, that I was actually very pleased with them! But the quality of NG supercedes most moulds now that I'd highly encourage them to look at this next and hopefully finish off what was never produced.

Airliners International in Atlanta would be the perfect place to release the Delta version!
