Default Long Live the 727: A Series 200 Wishlist

The 727 only gets any loving nowadays from Aeroclassics, which is a shame considering that for over 20 years it was arguably the world's most important civil aircraft type. I wrote this piece a month ago and AC have already knocked one of my 40 off the list so good work AC. Onto the remaining 39 please:

Fantastic aeroplane!! I'm filled with fond memories of travelling in SAA's ( South African) 727s as a kid. The well known blue nose will be a favourite airline livery of mine for years to come!

Hello, Gemini Jets, are you our there? Arguably the best 727-200 mould, and there it sits, cold and unused. Wake up and do us and yourself a favor - pour some zinc. Doug

The American 727 by GJ is one of my favorite 727s, it shows what they can produce, when the apply themselves.

I would buy most of the USA wishlist, and some of Europe. For Africa and the Middle East, I tend to want their jumbos--aircraft that were those carriers' largest international representatives. But their liveries sure look great on the 727. Such an elegant aircraft. We were very fortunate in the Northeastern / Mid-Atlantic USA that so many 727's were used here.

For Latin America, you might add LACSA's classic 1980's scheme, which DiMA does not show anyone having done on any type in 1:400.

And this...

(I think they had one 727-200 in the fleet but I cannot find a picture of it. But, hey, Gemini has a 727-100 mould too!)

Hope these links work.

Great suggestions with Dan Air and Sabre Airways.

Sabre's pair of B727-200s were actually ex-Dan Air. I remember G-BPND operating regularly out of Newcastle around 1995 to 1997. It was the one without hushkits and it was worth the 1 hour train and metro journey just for the noise. Their other one was G-BNNI which was hushkitted.

I only buy GJ 727-200's, as I find the AC mould to be one of their below-average moulds. So, both of my requests already exist as AC 722's, but I never bought either.

That said, I'm well-aware GJ will likely never make another 727-200, so my requests will never amount to anything more than wishful thinking.

Northwest Orient 727-200, preferably one of the Adv tail numbers (N275US - N299US, and N201US - N204US)

United 727-200 in Saul Bass scheme, either large or small titles. Again, preferably one of the Adv tail numbers (N72xxU or N74xxU)

Of course they will make new 727 any month now. They are “Made for collectors, by collectors” after all.

As a European 1990's enthusiast, I completely agree the Air Columbus, Air Algerie, Aviogenex, Dan-Air, Royal Air Maroc, Sabre Airways (two colourschemes) and Yemenia would be awesome releases Please

A few more i'd love to see:

Afriqiyah (livery worn by J2-KBA)
Air Malta (leased OB-/YU- other examples)
Chanchangi Airlines (basic Aviogenex colours)
DHL (red/white colours)
Hewa Bora Airways
Noble Air (Turkish charter airline)
Safair
Sterling European
Tayfun Air Cargo
Tunisair (present colours)

I was thinking about the 727-200 and thought of staring a wishlist thread, but did a search. Sure enough there was one, done by Rich Stretton last October, to discuss the above-referenced Yesterday's Airlines wishlist.

I scanned quickly through DiMA's 29 pages of 1:400 727-200's, representing 282 models. Surprisingly, there are some 727-200's not done, and not mentioned in this thread above (including by me in my comment re LACSA), or even Rich's YA thread. Aeroclassics has a very good 727-200 mould. Gemini's is comparable, but, as noted above, they rarely use it.

It seems to me that one of the best things Aeroclassics can do is use its classic moulds. They've done classic USA Deregulation stuff recently, including the Republic-Southern hybrid and Continental-Texas International Hybrid DC-9-30's.

There are 727-200's that, surprisingly, I did not find DiMA listing that anyone has done at all in 1:400.

Air Jamaica's classic 80's red and yellow top. This picture is a little overexposed, but it's close.

by RedRipper24, on Flickr

Aeroclassics did Southwest's first 727-200, with the cursive titles and green mustard color. But they have not done Southwest's 80's 727-200, with the brown mustard color.

DiMA didn't list anyone as having done Eastern's thin-cheatline version of the hockey stick on bare metal.

Unbelievably, if I'm correct, no one has done the white-top USAir original 1979 livery on the 727-200. Aeroclassics did the -100, which I have.

I didn't find record of any 1:400 of Continental's red meatball 1980's livery 727-200 with large titles (Gemini did it with small titles, I have that model). Yes, I know some people don't like this livery because of Frank Lorenzo. But it's a beautiful livery of a major, historic carrier and should be done.

Pictured in Rich's YA blogpost, but not in this thread, and worthy of mention here:

Love some of the less obvious ideas - Lacsa, Iran Aseman, Air Jamaica, plus Eastern and Continental.

Would also take a Purolator 727-200F if they could do it.

Doug--that Av400 727-100 in house colors is on my want list!

Adrian--I'd love to see an Air Algerie 727. I mostly get North American 727's, since that's where my own experience of 727's is. But I get a few from elsewhere, like the snazzy Olympic 727's Aeroclassics did not too long ago.

Big Al....speaking of reissues, the Mexicana in 1970's/ 80's livery is one I'd snap up if AC reissued it.
