Default Detailed Mould Review: Airbus A350s

A350s are an increasingly important part of a modern airliner collection but there has been much discord about which mould is best or worst. Here I try to take a rigorous and detailed look at the three current moulds and see which is best. The result may surprise you:

Have you looked at the new GJ Virgin A350 from them?

Interesting review. The definitive A350 is still to be done, but at least we can make our choice, thanks Richard.

I've heard their A350-1000 is very good. Hopefully mine will show up tomorrow...

JC Wings tell me they've updated their A350 moulds but my contact is unclear whether one of these is being used for the Gemini A350. JC themselves haven't released an A350 since 2017 although they have a few in their backlog

Be very interested to know if it is a 'new' mould with a better nose, be a good indicator for the BA A350.

I'm in two minds over the Virgin, admittedly both are technically fantasy models, but at least the feeling is the BA A350 will have that reg, so just the colour scheme or its interpretation might be wrong. I'm not aware anyone knows the actual reg of the Virgin yet?

In all the years I've been collecting, fantasy releases have always been out there and boy do they divide opinion. Personally I don't mind them and have several, including many representing pre-ordered airline fleet examples, years before they enter service. Yes reg's may or not be accurate but at least they allow as a 'preview' of what's to come.

I have the Phoenix fantasy Virgin 787-9 and the Gemini British Airways 787-8, A380 and 777-300ER to name but some, The Virgin and BA A350's will join my collection too. If the livery changes (unlikely in Virgin's case) then who cares ? It'll just add to the appeal for me. I still love my American 773 in the old livery as much as the correct one in the new scheme.

Argh - got my AV400 A350 yesterday (Airbus livery) and I pulled it out to compare with my JC one and found that AV400 have also made a fairly major livery error by painting the wings all white. At least I'm not finding any pictures of the 1:1 where the wings aren't silver/gray.

As much as I do like this new AV400 mould I'm not sure I can part with the JC given the wrong color wings...

In Jon Champs review he raves about the improvement in the nose profile. He also seems to be privy to rumours of a new BA livery being launched on the A350. I can't say I can find any evidence of that myself...

I've spoken with JC Wings about this. The new moulding has only been used so far on that Gemini Virgin release although JC have told me they have modified both the A350-900 and 1000 and their future releases will use it. It does look good and would probably elevate the JC mould to the top.

It also looks like AV400 have fixed the engine angles on later releases too.

All sounds good, I'll look forward to future purchases. Here's a few shots of my Virgin Atlantic A350-1000...

Apparently (according to a BA insider) the new livery is nothing more than the Chatham Union Flag being applied to the A350 sharklets. Excitement over...

I sort of assumed that would be done as nearly every other airline has done something similar, so a possible slip up on the BA A350 model, but it was a reasonable guess by Gemini as the NEO's don't sport the Chatham flag currently on their sharklets.

It's been depicted in the BA staff publication apparently so must be true. And AFAIK none of the other BA wingletted fleet are getting it. The BA South African franchise, Comair do of course apply the flag to their 737-800 winglets, as evidenced in the Gemini Jets release.

Pics of the AV400 Lufthansa A350 in new livery can be seen on eBay now. Not really liking the way the main landing gears look. I have to agree with Richard's take on AV400's main landing gear. I think I'm going to pass on this release and wait for GJ or JC to release this model. Anyone have any other thoughts on the AV400 A350?

I don't look at the landing gear nearly as much as I look at the nose shape and cockpit area of a model, and the AV400 beats anything out there for that. The question is, did they get the colors correct? They've made a lot of screwups in that regard that ruin the model for me much more than landing gear would.

Here's the link. The gear just stick out like a sore thumb to me.
